Sugar causes ovarian cancer

Sugar causes Ovarian Cancer We have known for years that poorly controlled blood glucose literally poisons the body. In the long run it leads to chronic diseases, and more recent data includes cancer in that grouping. A recent Canadian study showed that diets high in refined carbohydrates my greatly increase your risk of developing ovarian cancer. Consumption of refined carbohydrates, or sugars, which can lead to spikes in insulin response can be quantified using something called the Glycemic Load (GL). This is basically a combined ranking measure of how much refined sugar is consumed and in what portion size. A high value means potentially higher circulating blood sugar and consequent increased stress on insulin response. Forty nine thousand women were observed for 16 years, during which time 264 of these

women were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The GL of those who developed cancer were compared to those who did not. The study suggested that higher GL values may be associated with greater than 70% increase in ovarian cancer risk. Once again, the old adage of “you are what you eat may ring true.
