WHO WE ARE! The Downtown Detroit Partnership strengthens and supports Downtown Detroit through strategic initiatives and programs. We convene business, philanthropic and government partners to create a vibrant and resilient urban core for Detroit and the region. We take an active role in development, planning and placemaking decisions that increase the city’s economic prosperity. We also work with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors on multiple programs and projects to enhance Downtown’s appeal to businesses, residents and visitors. WHAT IS! OPEN STREETS DETROIT! For the first time in Detroit, two major city streets will be temporarily turned into safe, open, car-free zones for local families and the community to run, bike, shop and play together in Downtown, Corktown and Southwest Detroit. Free and open to all ages, Open Streets Detroit will take place from 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016 and Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016. Open Streets Detroit, presented by DTE Energy Foundation and in partnership with multiple local organizations, will join the international movement to open city streets to encourage healthy activities and foster increased interaction between neighborhood businesses and residents. In addition to walking, biking and running along the route, participants will have the opportunity to take part in free activities, such as sports, exercise classes, and other health and wellness activities.

MICHIGAN AVE & VERNOR HWY
Route Length: 3.7 Mile
The inaugural route will temporarily close 3.7 miles of Michigan Avenue and West Vernor Highway and will take participants past several iconic parks and green spaces, including Campus Martius Park, Roosevelt Park and Clark Park. Boyer Playfield, one of ten neighborhood parks selected by the City of Detroit to receive investment in 2016, is located on the western side of the route. Dozens of shops, restaurants and businesses line Michigan Avenue and West Vernor Highway. From banks and coney dogs Downtown, to coffee, bikes and bagels in Corktown, along with tacos, bakeries, barbers and beauty parlors in Southwest Detroit, the route features a diverse range of neighborhood retail.
