- Friday, 11/1 House mental and spiritual health. Activity: Quiz Show, Library The lines of inquiry in this unit include… *the effects of choices on our health *what it means to have a sense of well-being *how we make responsible choices The key concepts we will be studying include responsibility, causation, and perspective. We will be working on projects that explore the IB Learner Profile, specifically analyzing our role as balanced, knowledgeable and 1 reflective human beings.

Daily Schedule Logs In keeping with our new unit on health, we created a daily schedule and food diary in Google Documents. Our plan is to keep a log of our activities as a means of analyzing our lives, patterns and habits. The students designed a legend that will look at the following aspects of their day… Academic Time Personal Time Physical Activity Time Sleep Time Making Graphs In numeracy, the students have worked with partners to prepare surveys about how their classmates feel about things like sleep, exercise and food. The students have been asked to collect their data and to publish their results using visual representations like bar, pie and tally graphs. Ancient Civilizations As a culminating activity to our unit on civilizations, students were asked to create original worlds using a number of tools. Students used Minecraft, timelines, models, and PowerPoint presentations to organize what they know about the systems in a civilization. The presentations were all stunning, thoughtfully done and expertly executed. The students impressed us with their understanding of the unit and its connection to civilization today. Visitors from Palos Verdes This week, 4th grade students and teachers welcomed visitors from our California campus. The 4th and 5th grade teaching teams from PV have spent time in our classrooms as we all learned from each other about how to deepen inquiry. It has been a rare and exciting opportunity for us to collaborate with our counterparts.
