Aquatics Program Spring 2012 Description Please find below a program of activities taking place throughout the academic year. Unless otherwise stated all activity classes will be taking place on a once a week basis. The Swimming Based Disciplines Non Swimmer Grades Kindergarten –Grade 8 (10 x 40 minutes lessons) Tuesdays 3.35pm – 4.15pm These classes are designed for children who have little or no confidence in water and CAN NOT generally float. This ability class looks to develop water confidence and ability to submerge with confidence as well as perform a range of fundamental shapes in the prone and supine position with assistance of buoyancy aids and floatation devices. There will also be instruction on safe water entry and exit skills. Beginner Classes for Kindergarten –Grade 8 (10x 40 minute lessons) Tuesdays 4.15pm – 5pm These classes seek to build upon the skills in the Non-‐Swimmer classes and demonstrate the ability to enter the pool safely including safe jumping entries and be able to alternate to various shapes and actions in the prone and supine positions. They will also look to develop the learner’s ability to travel a minimum of 10 meters in a range of actions with some assistance. These lessons are suitable for learners with limited ability to float and travel in the water. Intermediate Classes Grade 2- 8 (10 x 60 Minute lessons) Fridays 3.15pm – 4.15pm This class is suitable for competent swimmers who are able to show a variety of skills within the water such as being able to swim any 3 strokes without the use of floatation or buoyancy aids for over a minimum distance of 25 meters. In addition, the swimmer will be able to perform a variety of surface dives at ease and basic turns. If suitable proficiency is observed, introduction to fitness based training will commence within the later lessons. Advanced Classes Grades 2 – Grade 8 (10x 60 minute lessons) Fridays 4.15pm – 5.15pm This class is suitable for confident swimmers wishing to develop their strokes and fitness for competition. All four strokes will be taught and developed with Starts, transitions’, stroke cycles and finishes will be covered. These lessons are for strong swimmers only.
Other Disciplines Water Polo Grades 3 – Grade 8 (Younger Grades may participate ONLY under teacher recommendation) Thursdays 3.40pm – 4.40pm This activity is brand new to Chadwick International and looks to develop the involvement of swimming skills within an aquatics based team sport. This activity will look to introduce and/or develop the existing skills associated to Water Polo (including passing, movement with and without the ball, goal keeping skills and shooting) This activity will be suitable for swimmers of intermediate and advanced level
