Chadwick International has a new author, and her name is Jo Dan. She is currently in 5B. Her favorite color is hot pink, and her favorite author is Rick Riordan. Her favorite food is everything except celery and clams. She has a lot of passion in writing stories. The inspiration for The Five Chosen Ones was Harry Potter, because of the ‘magic’ the characters used in the story. Her birthday is August 8th, which she describes as “lucky”. Her dream is to be a famous author and actress. Here is a short excerpt from her first novel. After that incident, Celestia and Isabel began to drink each of their potion. Celestia had a dazzling pink tail, while Isabel’s one was a clear, cool, blue one. They swam easily with one swish of their tail. At last, they reached a sparkling, transparent door. It said: If you want to open this door, you have to give me the right answer. Are the five chosen ones alive, or dead? What are their names? Book Review- Little Town on the Prairie Title: Little Town on the Prairie Author: Laura Ingalls Wilder About the Author: One day, Laura Ingalls Wilder thought about her past. She thought that she needed to write a book to keep her memories in. So, Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote her first book, Little House in the Big Woods, at 60 years old, so that she would not forget her memories. She thought about the woods, the Indian Territory, The towns, the railroad, and the prairie. She wrote the story of her childhood in nine volumes that covered each aspect of the American frontier. This is now known as the Little House series. Summary: Laura accepts a job in town to help sew shirts for the newly arrived people. Laura hates sewing shirts, but does the hard work to help Mary go to college. On the homestead, the crops: the corn and the oats are doing well, until the blackbirds come and destroy the crops. The family thinks that Mary will have to wait to go to college. However, Pa sells a cow and Mary gets to go to college after all. Laura, Carrie, and Grace are left alone. They do the fall cleaning, and succeed even though they had a few mishaps. They succeed in surprising Ma and Pa. The Ingalls move to town for the winter. Laura and Carrie go to school, and Laura reunites with Minnie Johnson and Mary Power. She also meets Ida Brown, who is the adopted daughter of the town’s minister, Reverend Brown. She also meets Nellie, her old nemesis, who has moved to De Smet and is attending the school. Miss Eliza Jane Wilder, Almanzo’s older sister. Nellie turns Wilder against Laura, and the children of the school start to hate Wilder. They start to have literary meetings at the school house where they have all kinds of fun things. Laura and Carrie become friendly after Ben’s birthday party. Almanzo starts to escort Laura, and Ma is surprised. Laura is 15, while Almanzo is a grown man (20). The school organzes a school exhibition to raise awareness of the school’s needs. The teacher assigns Laura and Ida to recite the whole American History up to that point. Despite their nervousness, Laura and Ida perform perfectly, and so does Carrie. Almanzo escorts Laura home, and invites her to ride his cutter. Mr Boast and Mr Brewster meet Laura. They had seen Laura perform at the exhibition, and had come to ask her to take a teaching position at a school 19 km from town. The superintendent comes and tests Laura, and grants her a third-grade teaching certificate. My Thoughts: I think that Laura Ingalls Wilder is the best author ever, and that she writes such descriptive volumes. She is and will be remembered as the American pioneer girl in the Little House series. If you want to read these books, we have the whole series in our village library. Rate: ★★★★★
Tittle : Sound of Music Director : Robert Wise Summary : In 1930's Austria, a young woman named Maria is failing miserably in her attempts to become a nun. When the Navy captain Georg Von Trapp writes to the convent asking for a governess that can handle his seven mischievous children, Maria is given the job. The Captain's wife is dead, and he is often away, and runs the household as strictly. The children are unhappy of the governesses that their father keeps hiring, and have managed to run each of them off one by one. But when Maria arrives, her kindness, understanding, and sense of fun soon draws them enjoy their life. Eventually he and Maria find themselves falling in love, even though Georg is already promised a marriage to a Baroness and Maria is still a postulant. The love makes them both start questioning the decisions they have made. Austria is about to come under the control of Germany, and the Captain may soon find himself drafted into the German navy and forced to fight against his own country. My thoughts : As my thoughts, this movie will be good for people who like music, and dance. In this movie, there are many dances, songs to follow. Also it is not childish for adults too. Rate : ★★★★★
