There is a variation in the preservation of buildings and facades, which include heritage and modern buildings amalgamating together, however describing the characteristics of the block.
Spaces and Voids for Preservation
The public spaces work really well and plays an active role in the block. Such spaces creates a sense of openess and belongingness alongside built structures.
The spaces preserved contains specific porosity to enhance connectivity within.
Urban Relationships for Preservation
Proposal: Precinct-based Car Park
The precint based car park is proposed to be located at the corner of Flinders St and William St. The entry to the car park would be from William st to avoid traffic congestion on Flinders st. The car park has two structures connected via ramps for future proofing. The space within the ramps create East West connection within the block though Custom house lane.
Proposal: The Temporary Permanent
The temporary link structure enhances connectivity & porosity (E-W,N-S) in the block.
Proposal: 2,500m2 Communal Amenity
The Communal amenity space is proposed to be occupied in the existing heritage structures on King street, which could comprise amenities like Library, Book cafe.
The structures would be interconnected in the block throught the temporary links to the car park and open spaces within.
Proposal: 7,500m2 Fine Grain Low Rent Space
The fine grain low amenity spaces are proposed to be occupied in the existing heritage structures on King street.
The temporary link structure well connects to the public open spaces and precint car park enhancing interconnectivity and porosity.
Overlay: Preservation Matrix
The precinct car park, low rent and communal spaces (library) are well connected to each other and the view describes the enhancement of potential porosity in the block.
