How has modeling shaped your personality? It strengthened my self esteem, widened my cultural views, and made me the strong and persistent woman that I am today because I received so many NO's throughout the years that I quickly learned how to improve my weaknesses and deal with negative responses. After working 14 years as a model, I decided it was time to work behind the scenes, finish my degree, and become a fashion business manager. I am still modeling, but it is not my main focus anymore and rather a side job. What is your favorite photography style? Carla Coultas grew up enjoying the Kentucky outdoors. As a teenager she moved to Florida where she started designing women's clothing. Her inspiration and dedication opened new doors for her and brought the opportunity to start selling her styles in Gainesville, Florida. Since then Carla Coultas have been part of Gainesville Fashion Week and University of Florida's Pride Awareness Month fashion show drawing crowds of 800 in attendance. Annually she puts on her Fashion for Freedom charity runway show raising money and awareness to help bring Women and Children of sexual slavery. How did you get into photography? I've always enjoyed creating images, but for the longest time it was as a computer scientist rather than as a photographer. I have a graduate degree in Computer Science and my speciality was computer graphics. I did research in 3-D image synthesis and virtual reality, meaning that I helped develop techniques for visualizing imaginary 3-D worlds. To do that you need a thorough understanding of the physics of light, shadows, optics, and image perception. Even then, it was the creative side rather than the technical side that interested me most. So from there it was a natural transition into photography, because I was able to apply in real life many of the principles I had already learned, and had greater freedom to express my creativity. Biggest photography influences? I do a lot of beach lifestyle photography, and to me some of the best images in that field have come from Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret. Everyone knows the models in the photos, but much of the credit for their success is due to photographers like Walter Iooss and Russell James. Here in Florida my biggest influence is Anthony Neste. He lives across the state in Flagler Beach, and consistently creates beautiful images. I love the sexy, vibrant look of his photography and his wonderful use of light. Perfect photoshoot location, scene? As much as I love Florida beaches, my ideal location would be somewhere with mountains and waterfalls in addition to stunning beaches. Somewhere like Hawaii would be ideal. I've been there many times but have never done a photoshoot there. I also lived in Australia for a while and would love to go there again with camera in hand. Please share a little about your experience, projects, works done, etc‌ I frequently shoot with agency models who need photos for their portfolios. Agencies are generally looking for natural looking photos, because the client needs to see what they are getting if they hire a model. I would say I work very hard to make my photos look as if I didn't work hard to create them! I typically scout locations in advance, and plan the best angles and individual locations based on the light that will be available during the photoshoot. But when it comes time to shoot and everything is in place, then I just try to have the model act naturally and I capture lifestyle moments.
Do you have a specific photography style you like the most? I still shoot a little bit of everything: beach, urban, studio, day, night, etc., but as mentioned above my favorite is outdoor lifestyle. I used to shoot a lot of "strobist" style images, using flashes on almost all of my shots. I like the distinctive look you can get by using flashes to balance the lighting on your model with the ambient light. But more and more I have been shooting natural light whenever possible, or getting by with just a touch of flash so that it's not even possible to tell that artificial light was used. Tell us about your short term and long term goals as a photographer: My short and long term goals are the same: to be creative, and to have fun. Part of being creative for me is learning new techniques and experimenting with different styles. I'm currently trying to develop my skills in fashion and editorial photography, and my inspiration for that is photographers such as Amanda Diaz and Emily Soto. For the long term, I plan to continue to learn and be inspired by other photographers, and hope to one day reach a point where I can be an inspiration to others.

Thilde Weems is a motivated and brave international fashion designer from California. Her artistic perspective and determination mixed with colorful ideas created Belle Neptune, an independent fashion company that reflex an artistic multicolored passion. Thilde studied fashion and textile design at Central Saint Martins in the UK. She also has a background in printmaking and collage techniques, which she has taught to others at numerous schools.
