In a concert career that has spanned the globe for more than 30 years, Cho-Liang Lin is equally at home with orchestra, in recital, playing chamber music, and in a teaching studio. His recent concert engagements include solo appearances with the New York Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Nashville Symphony, English Chamber Orchestra, Stockholm Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, and the Royal Philharmonic. In Asia, he is currently artist-in-residence at the Singapore Symphony. In 2000 Musical America named him Instrumentalist of the Year. He has enjoyed collaborations and premieres with composers such as John Harbison, Christopher Rouse, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Lalo Schifrin, Paul Schoenfield, Bright Sheng, Steven Stucky, Tan Dun, Joan Tower, John Williams, and many more. He has been music director of La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest since 2001; he also serves as artistic director of Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival, and he is artistic director of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra’s Youth Music Summer Camp. Mr. Lin’s recordings have won such awards as Gramophone’s Record of the Year, as well as two Grammy Award nominations. Born in Taiwan, Mr. Lin studied at the Sydney Conservatorium before enrolling at The Juilliard School to study with Dorothy DeLay at age 15. He was invited to join the faculty of The Juilliard School in 1991. He is currently a professor at Rice University and plays the 1715 “Titian” Stradivarius.

As a soloist, orchestral, and chamber musician, violinist Zeynep Alpan has appeared in a myriad of venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, Mariinsky II Theatre, Strathmore Hall, Katzen Art Center, and Carnegie Hall. Ms. Alpan made her orchestral debut at the age of 12 with the Istanbul Symphony Orchestra. Notably, she has performed alongside Baltimore Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Jonathan Carney, was a National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellow from 2012-2013, and was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America in its inaugural year. In 2013, Ms. Alpan co-founded the group Sonatas Stopping Starvation. The project uses musical excellence to help develop citizens and leaders within the arts and the greater community. Their mission is to be of service as artists and citizens for organizations that fight hunger. Along with a school-wide food drive, they gave their first benefit concert in November 2013 at The Juilliard School. As a Turkish native, Ms. Alpan receives frequent invitations to perform in major music halls in Turkey. In addition to being featured on Turkish National Television, she has performed at Albert Long Recital Hall and the Ataturk Cultural Center in Istanbul. She has also worked with violinist Cihat Askin as a part of the Cihat Askin and Friends Project (CAKA) with performances including the opening gala of the Istanbul Toy Museum. Ms. Alpan is currently a student at The Juilliard School studying with Naoko Tanaka.


Christopher Andersen began playing the violin at four and was invited to enroll at the Barratt-Dues Institute of Music in Oslo at the age of seven. At 15, Mr. Andersen made his debut in Russia with the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra (directed by Alexander Kantorov), where he performed the Mendelssohn violin concerto. The following year he was invited to play violin concertos by Tchaikovsky and Brahms with the orchestra in St. Petersburg’s legendary concert halls, including the Grand Hall and Glinka Hall of Saint Petersburg Philarmonic. He has been soloist with, among others, the Minsk Chamber Orchestra, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, and the Oslo Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, he regularly visits festivals such as the Verbier Academy, Kronberg Academy, Holland International Music Sessions, and Stavanger Chamber music festival, among others. As a dedicated chamber musician, he has played with Dora Schwarzberg, Eliane Rodrigues, Mikhail Zemtsov, Isaac Schuldman, Gavriel Lipkind, Torleif Thedéen, Lars Anders Tomter, Anastasia Kobekina, and Ellen Nisbeth. Mr. Andersen has received many awards and international scholarships, and has won all of Norway’s major youth competitions. He won second prize at the International Violin Competition in Wörthersee Austria (2007) and first prize in the National Violin Competition in Germany Jugend Musiziert (2007). In 2013, Mr. Andersen won the Heifetz prize at the Heifetz International Violin Competition in Vilnius, Lithuania. He regularly participates at master classes with Zakhar Bron, Sergei Stadler, Dora Schwarzberg, Anna Chumachenco, Pamela Frank, Kryzstof Wegzryn, and Boris Kuschnir. Beginning in 2010, he was a student of the Norwegian Academy with Isaac Schuldman and Hochschule für Musik Hans Eisler (Professor Ulf Wallin). From 20132014 he studied with Boris Kuschnir in Vienna. Mr. Andersen is currently studying in New York with Pinchas Zukerman. He plays on a violin by G.B. Guadagnini, built in Milan in 1753, kindly on loan from the Anders Sveaas’ Almennyttige Fund. Violist Michela Christianson has performed in venues throughout the tri-state area and abroad as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician. Playing major concert venues such as Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, The Kodak Theatre, and the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, Ms. Christianson has performed with groups such as the North Shore Symphony and South Shore Symphony orchestras, as well as the New York Youth Symphony and abroad with the Long Island Youth Orchestra. In addition, she has performed in collaboration with former 10,000 Maniacs member Natalie Merchant and Woodstock-based folk-pop group Elijah and the Moon. Ms. Christianson is actively involved with various new music debuts, including Jeremy Wexler’s Löschen for String Quartet and Piano (2014) and Homage to James Tenney for String Quartet with Bass (2014), Dakota Wayne’s Sonata for Viola (2013), and Andrew Yoon’s Contemplation on a Chord (2015). In addition, she was involved with the inaugural season of the Purchase College Sinfonietta, a chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance of contemporary music. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Christianson is a founding member of the Purchase String Ensemble, a conductorless string ensemble committed to widening audiences for classical music. She has participated in the NYU and LIU Post chamber music festivals, and has participated in master classes with Kim Kashkashian, Lawrence Dutton, Karen Ritscher, Ani Kavafian, Cyrus Beroukhim, and members of Decoda and Orpheus Chamber Orchestras. Ms.


Christianson is currently pursuing her bachelor of music under the instruction of Danielle Farina at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College and splits her time between Westchester and Long Island, NY. Among her most influential teachers are Irene Stitt, Eddy Malave, and Barry Lehr. Cellist Yoobin Chung was born and began her early musical training in South Korea. After winning a local concerto competition she made her orchestra debut at the age of fourteen, only three years into her cello studies. As an active freelance musician, she performs regularly around the greater New York area in solo, chamber, and orchestral music concerts including pop concerts for various award shows, social, and fashion events. Apart from performing she also teaches privately and is a cello and chamber music faculty member at Manhattan Music Festival. She received a bachelor of cello performance degree as a scholarship student under Marion Feldman at Manhattan School of Music. During her time at MSM, Ms. Chung performed as principal and a section member of the Symphony, Chamber Sinfonia, Philharmonia, and Opera orchestras while also studying chamber music and performing in master classes with The American String Quartet, Lucie Robert, and members of the Brentano and Tokyo String Quartets. Ms. Chung is currently pursuing a master of music at Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Alan Stepansky. Violinist Emily Frederick is active in many classical genres including solo, orchestral, and chamber music. Participating in numerous ensembles and summer festivals throughout her career, Ms. Frederick has had several notable leadership opportunities. In 2013, she attended the National Orchestral Institute in Maryland, where she was principal second violin. Ms. Frederick sat concertmaster in both the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras at Ithaca College, as well as principal second violin on the orchestra’s Northeast Tour in 2012. During her sophomore year, Ms. Frederick was invited to perform Bach’s B minor Mass with a faculty-run ensemble in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. Ms. Frederick has worked with many renowned performers and educators, including master classes with James Ehnes and members of the Ying Quartet. After studying with James Krehbiel in Syracuse, Ms. Frederick worked with Nicholas DiEugenio at Ithaca College, receiving a bachelor of music degree in 2013. During her undergraduate career, she received extensive chamber music training under the coaching of Debra Moree, Susan Waterbury, and Jeffery Meyer. Ms. Frederick is currently studying with Cal Wiersma at Purchase College Conservatory of Music, where she will receive a master of music. After graduation, she hopes to continue her orchestral studies and begin the audition process. Violinist Inna Langerman is an avid chamber and orchestral musician in the New York metropolitan area, performing repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the 21st century. A native of Belarus and born to a musical family, Ms. Langerman began music lessons at home in violin and piano at age six. An advocate of music education, Ms. Langerman is a young, vibrant pedagogue with an interest in conducting and composing. In 2011, Ms. Langerman joined the faculty of the Harmony Program, a music program based on El Sistema, as an upper strings coach, assistant conductor, music theory teacher,


and music arranger. Enrolling in LaGuardia Arts High School in 2002 allowed her to study alongside other aspiring musicians and to meet and learn from renowned artists of Lincoln Center. She received her bachelor of music degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music of Queens College in 2010. Over the past seven years, she studied violin with Daniel Phillips, Joey Corpus, and Calvin Wiersma, while exploring further musical ambitions. In 2010, Ms. Langerman began private studies in conducting and orchestration with the conductor of One World Symphony, Sung Jin Hong, one of her most important mentors. Prior to enrolling for a master of music degree at Purchase College in 2013, she took classes at the Juilliard Evening Division in music production and studio composition. Louis Rizzo has been playing cello from a young age, and enjoyed growing up in a musical environment, with both of his parents having a musical background. Mr. Rizzo has participated in a variety of different summer music festivals, including Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute, New York State Summer School of the Arts, New York University’s Intensive String quartet workshop, and the National Music Festival in Chestertown, Maryland. Mr. Rizzo has been a part of master classes with Tchaikovsky competition winner Narek Hakhnazaryan, former Daedalus String Quartet member Raman Ramakrishnan, and Rice University’s Norman Fischer, among others. Mr. Rizzo’s chamber experience includes master classes with the Cavani String Quartet, and coachings with a variety of different chamber music pedagogues, including Marion Feldman, Karen Ritscher, and former second violinist of the Cleveland String Quartet, Peter Salaff. Mr. Rizzo started his college career at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with the assistant principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, Richard Weiss. He has since transferred to SUNY Purchase where he is a sophomore earning a bachelor of arts under the tutelage of renowned pedagogue and performer Julia Lichten. American cellist Philip Sheegog, praised for making his music “practically dance off the stage,” is a versatile soloist and collaborative artist. Noted for his impressive command of unconventional technique and eclectic repertoire, Mr. Sheegog has been invited to perform for dozens of events around his home of Southern California for organizations such as the Pacific Symphony, the King Hussein Foundation, and the Salvation Army, as well as for numerous private recitals, fundraisers, and outreach programs. A passionate advocate of new music, Mr. Sheegog has commissioned and performed a diverse collection of new works across the country and enjoys exposing audiences to less developed repertoire. In addition to classical music, Mr. Sheegog constantly seeks to push the limits of the cello through crossover into genres such as jazz, pop, and rock, as well as through the integration of modern technology. Through his work as an avid chamber and orchestral musician, Mr. Sheegog has participated in critically acclaimed tours of both the United States and Europe and, as the cellist of the Kroma Piano Trio, was selected for the inaugural year of The Juilliard School’s Honors Chamber Music program. Most recently, Mr. Sheegog performed on a celebrated concert tour of the southern United States. Aside from music, Mr. Sheegog enjoys discussing philosophy, staying informed with and acquiring cutting-edge tech, creating and editing multimedia projects, and spending time on weekly video calls


with his family. Mr. Sheegog is currently studying with American cellist Fred Sherry at The Juilliard School in New York City. Damon Taheri is a Swedish violist residing in New York City. Mr. Taheri made his debut as a soloist in 2010 with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in Sweden when he performed Euphoria, a piece he wrote, for viola and orchestra. He has served as principal violist in a number of orchestras, including the symphony orchestras of Manhattan School of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Music. He has been invited to and performed at several festivals such as Ålesund Chamber Music Festival in Norway, Festivalis Druskomanija in Lithuania, and Lyckå Chamber Music Festival and Aurora Chamber Music Festival in Sweden. Mr. Taheri is already an established substitute in several major Scandinavian orchestras, such as the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Opera Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. He participated in the live broadcast Nobel Peace Prize Concert in 2011 and has performed for the Norwegian Royal Family. Courses and master classes he has attended include IMS Prussia Cove in England and Voksenaasen Summer Academy in Norway. He has played for notable musicians and pedagogues such as Isabelle van Keulen, Vilde Frang, Thomas Riebl, Hartmut Rohde, Maxim Rysanov, and Helen Callus. Mr. Taheri is currently attending Manhattan School of Music for his master of music under the tutelage of Karen Ritscher. He plays an Italian viola built in 2010 by Alessandro Ciciliati in Ferrara. Bonan Xing is the former director’s assistant of the first and second China International Chamber Music Festival and China International Winds and Percussion Festival. He translated Reiner Wehle’s Clarinet Fundamentals published by China People’s Music Publishing house with his teacher Fan Lei, which is the first foreign clarinet teaching book in China. Mr. Xing won the first and second China Music School Students Performing Competition and taught in the Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music. Mr. Xing is a graduate of the Central Conservatory of Music in China and is now a graduate student studying with Professor Ayako Oshima at SUNY Purchase. A dedicated chamber musician, Weiyi Xu is a collaborative pianist based in New York City, originally from Shanghai, China. She started her piano studies at age three in Shanghai and served as a collaborative pianist in Beijing beginning in 2012. She has performed in numerous music festivals and also performed and studied in master classes with performers such as Xiangdong Kong, Kenneth Cooper, Conor Nelson, and Helen Callus. After receiving her bachelor of music degree in piano performance, Ms. Xu was considered for work in the string and woodwind studios of Shanghai Normal University. She is currently earning a master of music in collaborative piano at Manhattan School of Music with John Forconi. Since her 2006 debut under Grammy-nominated conductor Niel DePonte, pianist Angie Zhang has performed with orchestras such as the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic, Missouri Symphony Orchestra, Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra, Olympia Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble 212 of New York City,


and the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony. She won the 2014 Aspen Music Festival and School’s Piano Concerto Competition and performed with the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen Orchestra. Ms. Zhang has not only proven herself a versatile solo and chamber musician, but also a passionate educator. She dedicates herself to teaching, organizing, and performing at events such as community outreach concerts and benefit recitals. In the summers of 2013 and 2014 at the Aspen Music Festival and School, she was selected as a teaching fellow and gave private lessons and master classes to local residents. An active leader in her school community, she is currently the chair of the Juilliard Student Council, a Student Ambassador, a Gluck Community Service Fellow, an Admissions Tour Guide, and a writer for the Juilliard Journal. Notable engagements in the upcoming year include a debut performance with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and return appearances with the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic, Missouri Symphony Orchestra, and the Olympia Symphony Orchestra. She will be returning to AMFS as a New Horizons Fellow of the Finckel-Wu Han Chamber Music Studio. Ms. Zhang is currently pursuing a bachelor of music degree at Juilliard, studying with Yoheved Kaplinsky, and is also a student in the Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard Exchange program.
