Hannaford’s donation exceeds its previous top commitment by 1,000 pounds. The contribution also marks the single largest turkey donation to be received by Equinox for the 2010 holiday dinner and helped feed approximately 9,000 hungry, homeless or homebound people in the Capital Region on Thanksgiving Day. eyBank N.A. has made a $200,000 gift to Albany Medical Center to support the hospital’s “Grow Our Own” program. “Grow Our Own” is a work-study program that assists eligible employees of the Albany, N.Y., hospital obtain their registered nursing degrees. It was started in 2002, and has been supported by KeyBank since that time to address a shortage in the region’s nursing work force. Jeffrey Stone, Capital Region president of KeyBank, said economic self-sufficiency is the cornerstone of the bank’s philanthropic giving. “No program better exemplifies this than Albany Med’s ‘Grow Our Own’,” udson Valley Community College will offer several college-level courses in the evenings at its new TECSMART education facility in Malta this winter. Classes begin on Jan. 24 and run through May 19. Courses, offered both day and evenings, include liberal arts and business courses as well as courses related to the college’s renewable energy and semiconductor manufacturing programs. Tuition is $142 per credit hour for New York State residents. aggie Fronk, Executive Director of Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services in Saratoga County (DVRC) was awarded The Sunshine Peace Award honoring extraordinary individuals working to end domestic violence. Founded by Doris Buffet (sister to investor Warren Buffet), the award honors the vital role that workers in the domestic violence field play within communities. Fronk was one of fifteen individuals to receive the award from Ms. Buffet at a ceremony in Wilmington, Delaware in late August. MGM Campaign The Chamber is very enthused about the MGM (Member Get a Member) Campaign running now through December 31, 2010. This exciting campaign is sure to push our membership numbers over the 1,000 mark! The final Baskets of Hope Assembly of 2010 by the Women in Business Committee was a resounding success thanks to many, many donations from generous chamber and community members! A large gathering of Women In Business Committee members provided the” elbow grease” to assemble over 200 “baskets” filled with women’s personal care items donated to Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). The holiday season is sadly, a busy time for DVRC and executive Director Maggie Fronk expressed her gratitude at the continued support the committee provides with much needed items for the women and children that they serve.
