Palm Beach County Counts www.pbccounts.org

New web site provides free data for health, economics, social demographics, best practices research for Palm Beach County Local businesses, municipalities, charities, residents benefit from collaborative effort The Economic Development Research Institute (EDRI) along with seven additional partners launched Palm Beach County Counts (www. pbccounts.org) an online research and data resource for Palm Beach County. More commonly known as a data dashboard, this web-based collaboration features 100 Palm Beach County quality of life indicators in the areas of economy, health, education, environment, transportation, public safety, government and politics, and social environment. Businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations will use the site in a variety of ways to assist with strategic planning, fundraising and community program accountability. “One of the most beneficial features of Palm Beach County Counts is that it provides businesses with near real-time economic and demographic information by zip code. This will allow us to gauge community needs more accurately and plan accordingly,” said Chris Roog, CEO of the Gold Coast Builders Association. “Having access to unbiased, centralized information about Palm Beach County is a critical step in building a world class community.” The community-based indicator program was developed in partnership with the Healthy Communities Institute, Inc. The

16

Business Watch

goal was to design a dynamic, interactive webbased information system that will provide easy to understand data for all segments of the community to access at no charge. In addition to dashboard indicators and census information, the site currently links visitors to more than 1,600 county-level promising practices and other planning resources that encourage and promote informed community action. The following organizations provide funding and governance for Palm Beach County Counts: The United Way of Palm Beach County, Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County, Health Care District of Palm Beach County, Quantum Foundation, Palm Healthcare Foundation, Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County, and Workforce Alliance, Inc. On-going funding for the project is needed. Sponsorship opportunities are available at various levels. For more information, call Greta Von Unruh, EDRI executive director at 561- 366-9558.
