In August, CR288 staff members attended the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) International Conference. CIT International works to develop and implement programs with the goal of enhancing and sustaining effective interaction among law enforcement, mental health providers, individuals with mental illness, their families, and communities. CR288 staff had the opportunity to network and discuss best practices with crisis teams and professionals from across the nation. We were able to attend multiple training sessions alongside some of our CPD colleagues. It was a chance to refresh our skills and learn about initiatives on the cutting edge of crisis work in the eld. The conference hosted over 1,000 people from across the nation and included training on mental health and medical emergencies, threat management, interventions for specic populations and marginalized groups, and rst responder wellness.

On a local level, CR288 is a part of the East Valley CIT program since 2015. East Valley CIT provides a 5-day course with classroom instruction and practical exercises for law enforcement ofcers to better interact with persons with mental illness. CR288 staff participates in the planning, training, and evaluation of CIT ofcers and alternates hosting the 40-hour course with other east valley cities. The goal is to minimize the risk to responding ofcers and the person experiencing the crisis and achieve safer outcomes for all involved. Gina Aden
