The ownership have decided to invest in a Research and development program that will help their products and processes upgrade, and provide the world with new and cutting-edge ideas in the world of terracotta building products. To do this, they must experiment and explore changes to existing available raw material to make tiles, to invent tiles which fit in better with other new buildingtechnology, to come up with better bricks and other solutions for the building industry. SITE PAALAYAM BAZAAR Paalayam bazaar is an old settlement of Trichy located in the Western part of Thillai nagar. The street layouts are of organic development.Paalayam bazaar and its surroundings have a history for weaving clothes and manufacturing of syntheticstones which is being followed till date by some residents. Total Area of the Parcel - 161700 sq.m of land

the residential and commercial zones, and also to control the vehicular movement within the neigbourhood. One part of the neighbourhood / the violet region is a highly commercial zone and the other part / red region is a highly residential zone. The hierarchy of roads is also presented in the layout. The primary, secondary and tertiary roads, in which -The primary roads are the ones at the periphery and allow circulation of all kinds of road transports and pedestrian movement. -The secondary roads are the interconnecting roads within the neighbourhood and restricts the movement of four wheelers and heavy vehicles. -The tertiary roads are the smaller streets that branch out from the primary and secondary roads, and more pedestrian friendly and allow the movement of bicycles and two wheelers shows the plan of the neighbourhood

The neighbourhood has a stadium like overview on the roof level. The height of the buildings are lower at the central core, and the height of the buildings increases as it moves towards the periphery. The buildings at the core are double storied structures, those at the midrange are three storied and those at the periphery are four storied structures. The height of buildings rises from the core to periphery.

The neighbourhood is considered to generate its own revenue by re-adopting their traditional practice of weaving sarees. The neighbourhood is visualised as clusters based on the activities involved in weaving. Each cluster has a few structures that act as a communal workspace for the activity that defines the cluster.

The primary roads are the widest in the neighbourhood and accommodate most transport, and vehicles. The edges of the primary roads accomodate the commercial stretch of the neighbourhood. These are high traffic zone and are provided with drop out zones. The pedestrian pathways are provided with walking space, seatings, trees and also spaces for street hawkers. The bridges pass across the roads connecting the buildings from two sides on terrace level.

The typology shows two residences, one is a two storey structure and the other is a three storey structure. The structures have their top floor ascommercial blocks. The residents are provided with open lobby or thinnai spaces that tend to invite semi-public activity with the inhabitants of the house and the neighbourhood. The access to the commercial floor is provided through a public access stairs for the users at ground level and bridges are provided at the terrace level. The commercial spaces are provided with an open lobby that would also act as a common gathering space for the people travelling on the terrace level.

TIMBERAL VAULTING The workshop that have explored the lost technique of timbrel/Catalan vaulting. Hailed as the technology for the future and much researched upon worldwide the timbrel vault differs substantially from the Roman method of vault building by defying gravity. Based on several layers of tiles that fuse together to work as a laminated shell, the thin profiles of the Timbrel vaults are to be seen to be believed....

PLAY WITH SCRAPS A hands-on workshop on upscaling used tyres into play furniture It was fun working with tyres and designing some new things with waste materials It was conducted by Ar.prethi Shetty and Ar.nancy from Anthill creations


CLAY AND PAPER MECHE A workshop on Clay Modelling Techniques and paper mache by Ar.Preetha of Studio ART ‘O’ ARCH.. The Sculpturesque models are the outcome of the paper mache workshop. The fluidity and mouldability of the technique offered insights into the usage of this medium in architectural model making.

MOULD MAKING The Enthusiastic artist is carving the plaster of paris derived from the Silicone mould
