In the modern society, we are enjoying a happy every-day life. However, social issues has never stopped bothering us. Traffic jam, accidents, global warming, pollution, obesity, forever-stranger neighbors...... As an urban professional, I see myself as a doctor, and the built environment as an organic body. I feel a strong responsibility as one of the global citizens, also feel lucky that I have the chance to devote myself to it, with a planning and design approach. With a mixed background of urban design and urban planning, I am used to switch between a hoslistic mind and a detailing perspective and experienced with projects in many different scales. I also have a curious soul, willing to be more knowledged every day.

01 Cycle -- Revitalizing a transport hub Furuset, Oslo, Norway Competition proposal for Nordic Built City Challenge in Norway, phase 2, in collaboration with MAD arkitekter and Architectopia. With a context of 90% immigranted inhabitants, the suburban neighborhood Furuset is facing a problem of integrating. The portal of the area, Trygve Lies Square, is currently serving for surface and underground car parking. As the metro network expands to Furuset, the square is in urgent need of transformation, to be a transport hub where several modes of transport meet, as well as public spaces where people meet and socialize.

04

I worked as one of the core team members, took part in the whole process such as conceptual shape developing, proposal developing and testing. Mainly responsible for design of the social square, axo diagrams drawing and sections drawing.

Our concept is inspired by an thorough knowledge of the site and of Furuset. Cycle is a clear structuring of space with the social square in the middle, the recreational zone to the North and the mobility hub to the South. Movement, socialising and recreation are important activities for all, both individually and as a society. These activities and their associated spaces are relevant now, and will be throughout the transformation of Furuset into a sustainable city district.

Cycling allows for fast, safe and easy access across the urban landscape and, with good design, integrates seamlessly with pedestrians and other forms of green mobility. People have an attachment to the place where they learned to cycle and feel ownership towards it. There are routes and lanes for cyclists of all levels of proficiency. Slopes have different heights and gradients, some for beginners and some for the experienced rider. A new below grade pedestrian walkway connects the mobility hub with the metro station.

02 Active Design Toolkits Active Design Toolkits is a series of booklets, based on a large amount of theoretical and methodological study in the field of active design and planning, integrating ACT's 5-year experience focusing on active design. We selected 3 types of built environment with different typical issues --City, Megacity and Suburb --- who have great need of integrating politics and planning methods in their local planning process. The toolkits are completed in collabration with another colleague, I was responsible for vol.3 Suburb and half of vol.1 City. The booklets are still waiting for a final correcting beofre publishment.

03 Research on Sustainable Development in Danish Costal Zones Due to the political decision that the construction limitation within 300 meter from the coast line was removed from the planning law, we tried to analyze the pros and cons of this decision to the danish environment, based on a great amount of GIS vector analysis within the entire country, with a focus on the western coast of Jutland. I was responsible for the natural factors. The project was sadly aborted due to some reason.

The town Huangwo has a special location, facing the sea and back to a mountain. In the past few decades, the beautiful beach attracted thousands of tourists. However, in the superior government's plan, the sea will be surrounded to be an internal lake for industry use and the beach has been ruined because of the construction of the Eurasia Continental Bridge. The aim of this project is to argue for the local inhabitants that to re-develop the tourism industry is the best way for the village and the nature, instead of developing industry. We made developing stretagies for the tourism industry, tourism planning for the whole area(the village is seen as a sort of humanity landscape) and spatial design in detail.

Tourism Activity Scheming The tourism region is a combination of natural landscape and humane landscape. In the seafront region, people can enjoy all water activities along the bay, the beach, hike in the wetland park, and observe the birds. On the other side of the elevated highway is the village on the mountain, with the forest park. Two locations are selected to design a terrance, on which people will get a perfect view of the sea.

05 Sustainable Community Master Plan In collaboration with NEO Architect Studio (www.neodesign.cn).

Aerial view

Northern China is the most problematic region in the country with air pollution(smog), water pollution and shortage, groundwater hollows, due to the local climate and a long history of heavy industry. Another problem lies in the demography, which is the same in Denmark's out-skirt towns. Most young people emigrated to bigger cities, as a result the inhabitant is constantly reducing, and the average age is raising. Therefore our scheme is highlighted by a series of sustainable solutions: --- Social: A community centre is planned to be shared by the 5 villages, which are located within 2 km between each other, with a purpose of engaging the social interaction of the inhabitants and a result that 5 millions is saved. The community centre also has a unique design with the same purpose. Qualified public spaces are designed to bring communication and public events back. --- Resource: The community centre is designed with a rainwater purifying and recycling system. Together with other measures, recycled water becomes the main source of water in daily life to replace the overly mined ground water.

Space Syntax Analysis

Bricks from demolished old buildings are reused for road construction. --- Culture: Hand craft workshops are planned both centrally and scattered, in order to draw the locals' attention to their own treasure. With a respect of the local tradition, the religious facilities(temples) are carefully designed to be renovated. With our proposal, the 5 local rural municipalities are convinced to cooperate together, to realize a cohesive community.

Masterplan of the civil center

The service center is consist of three buildings connected by a corridor in " ĺ?Ł " shape. They form three yards. While people stay inside the buildings, they could see the activities happening in the yards. When people walk on or through the corridors, there is more chance they would meet with people in the yards or buildings. Thus the private space, semi-private space and public space are well integrated.

27

Rainwater collection system on the roof

According to the climate characteristics in this region, the service center is also designed to be a sample of rainwater collection and irrigation system of all the residential houses.

water fall water steps

Rainwater flows into the water channel and gathers in the central and fall down to form a water curtain, as a landscape in the yards while raining. Meanwhile, part of the rainwater will go down to the collection pond underground. The water is collected to irrigate the farmland. water fall water steps

06 Renewal of a Waterfront Area along Yangze River

Xia guan district is one of the oldest districts in Nanjing city. It lies on the bank of Yangze River. Our site is the southwestern corner of the district, with one park, one sceinic spot, abandoned Nanjing west train station, and a port, also with a power plant which was closed by the government and large amount of industrial area. We made a plan for this area in 5 years, to carry out in two phases, in 2 years and in 5 years.

We reorgnized the road structure, redivided the chaotic pieces of land. In the land use plan, we mainly aim to expand the residential areas, the commerial areas, the green areas, and reduce the industrial areas.

29

We completed the three-level structure, connected the primary road with the bridge goes over the river, to release the pressure of trasport through the only fast road. We reorganized the local roads in a more regular way. To create a more efficient connection in the area and make sure the parcels are effectively used. With the aim of transform this area into the public service center of the Xiaguan district, we intended to transform the abandoned train station into a railway museum together with a park behind it, to transform the ferry building into a concert hall, transform the power plant into a gallery, expand the commercial center and the health care center. With the remaining industry heritiages, such as railway tracks, the freight wharf, the chimney of the power plant, we created three landscape nodes, together with the existing Shizishan Mount and Xiuqiu park, it enhances the scenic attraction of this area.

30

ZOOM IN TO THE SOUTHWESTERN CORNER

We chose the southwestern corner to do a detail plan and design. It used to be a big block, a mixture of government and military administration buildings, residential buildings, offices, power plant and a bus terminal. In our proposal, we broke the big block, divided it into four parts by functions. The waterfront part is developed into a park, with a square as a large open space. The part next to it is seen as a culture center, the gallery and museum transformed from the power plant. A neighborhood mixed of residential and commercial buildings are relaid out with green spaces inbetween. The government buildings are completely kept.
