people for work

A phenomenon

epidemic situation In the face of COVID-19,during the lockdown in Bangladesh, people who lacked the financial means to deal with the disaster went out to work hidden in buckets carried by truck in exchange for food for their families tomorrow. Why does this happen? The epidemic situation has only exacerbated existing problems(economic problem) in this area

In the face of the raging new crown epidemic in 2020, is home isolation really a torment? For the people of Bangladesh, home isolation is a luxury. When we sighed with lamented inconveniences such as inability to socialize and lack of entertainment, they were secretly going out to work in exchange for food for the family tomorrow. In the face of "poverty", the most serious "disease", the epidemic does not seem to be worth mentioning. Even if the new crown epidemic is over, the spread of dengue fever, the spread of floods...all kinds of disasters are still the survival questions that the people of Bangladesh face every day. Taking the opportunity of the new crown epidemic, what can we do for their future?

Current situation in Bangladesh

Bangladesh unemployment rate

People petitioned to return to work

People suffer from hunger

Comparison of strange causes of death during the epidemic

How to survive in the future?

Because of the epidemic, global clothing brands cancelled US$3.2 billion orders in Bangladesh, directly causing 4.1 million workers to lose their jobs

After Bangladesh ordered home quarantine, people had to work secretly to survive because of lack of supplies and food.

People who are unemployed have no income, cannot buy food and supplies, and will suffer starvation

According to statistics, during the epidemic, the number of people who died by suicide due to starvation was twice that of pneumonia.

Facing the double blow of the epidemic and hunger, how should the people of Bangladesh survive?

Status of the Buriganga river region

Lack of public space

Buriganga River

Flood

Lack of children's education Flood disaster in Bangladesh Poverty has led to a large number of children working as child labourers

Bangladesh, located in the lower reaches of the Ganges River, can inundate 1 / 3 of the country in case of serious floods

Buriganga river

The Buriganga river divides Dhaka into two parts, forming the "boundary" of the city

Less bridge

Bridge traffic burden is heavy It is estimated that each bridge will increase Bangladesh's GDP by 1.2%.

Slum

Slum situation A family of 5-8 people can only squeeze in a room of about ten square meters.

Concepts and strategies

Use "bridges" to break "borders" and promote exchanges and economic growth

Build concrete structure frame and Space such as religious worship and provide basic traffic functions children's education has been added to serve the surrounding communities

By building bridges, the economy of the northern New Area will be led down

Connecting the two banks of briganga River and breaking the "boundary"

River water purification system and vertical traffic

Using the space on the "bridge" to solve the shortage of housing land in slums

People build their own "houses" as shelters in times of disaster

The public space of the bridge serves the surrounding communities

Women Well

water Encounter, chat, communication, gossip Almost every village in Africa has a water supply point. When it's time to supply water, African women and children bring buckets to hold water. During this period, women chat and gossip here. How to bring women together in the form of daily activities?

The building adopts the circular form of the traditional tribal plane, creating a flexible space for women and children to organize gatherings, acquire knowledge and carry out collective labor, which helps to reduce discrimination and promote equality. According to the local climate characteristics, we reserve a catchment space in the center of each circular space to collect rainwater and give the building the form of seeking rain, which is in line with the viewpoint of ecofeminist architecture theory and helps to alleviate the problem of local water resources to a certain extent. We have learned the application of bamboo, rammed earth, straw and other materials, and always maintain the perspective of caring for women when considering the construction mode and construction process, so as to ensure that the construction process is simple and in line with the principle of self construction of sustainable development, and let women participate in their own space construction. We hope that the display of women's power will promote the social, economic and political development of the region.

Concept

Taking "fetching water", a daily activity of local women, as the intention of "begging for rain", the "pool" is designed to attract women to gather here and participate in the activity

Site

Senegal is affected by the ocean wind, and the Tanaff Valley area has dry and wet seasons.

Baghre village is located in the south of the forest, with flat terrain and tall trees

Close to the highway and convenient transportation, within the service scope of various landmarks.

The function of women's home can radiate outward.

Materials & Sustainability

Translation of traditional buildings

The building skeleton can be replaced after being damaged, and the overall structure of the building will not be affected. So the service life of the building is prolonged.

heavy vehicles or complex machinery

Public living room

Various awareness raising activities, seminars and exhibitions to promote gender equality and human rights. These activities can be held in a flexible space such as the public living room, which can not only meet the needs of single activities, but also provide the possibility of multiple activities at the same time.

Workshop

By providing technical education for local women, workshops are held to provide nearby women with a job opportunity to promote women's access to society and participation in social affairs

Office and meeting space

Encourage communication between administrative agencies in the region and associations. An open space for 10-15 people to hold meetings. At the same time, there is a management space for the management and organization of activities

Rest room

The health knowledge displayed in the health space popularizes basic health education to local women and children

Determine pools and squatting toilets, dig holes and set filter devices, ram the earth, paste stone pieces as the edge of the pools, make ecological toilets with septic tanks. Determine the outer and center of the space, dig holes and filled with gravel, insert 15cm bamboo tubes at equal distances. Determine the outer and center circle radius of each space, the size of walls and furniture, make the rammed earth template of the base with wooden boards and bolts. Mix clay, coarse sand and fine stone in a ratio of 5:2:3. After adding them to the template, rammed it to make the foundation, walls and seats. Divide 5m long, 5cm diameter wild bamboos into groups of four, stagger and tie them into one. One group of wild bamboos is tied end to end with another, the nodes are fixed with sleeves. Group the wild bamboos according to spaces, cut them into fixed lengths. Groups of wild bamboos are heated and bent into fixed arcs. Insert ends of bent wild bamboos into the outer and center bamboo tubes in turn, fix nodes with bolts to form the skeleton. Weave bamboo pieces horizontally around the skeleton to a height of 4m, the upper skeleton is exposed. Hang up straws to prevent rain leakage.

03 Pre's rock A memorial to an athlete Steve Prefontaine 2020.3 individual work Site:Eugene,Oregon,America

“Somebody may beat me,but they are going to haveto bleed to do it.”

Steve Prefontaine

Car accident Steve Prefontaine, the top American long-distance runner in the 1970s, is a legend in world track and field history. His death in a car accident on May 30, 1975.Many people were inspired by Prefontaine‘s perseverance, so they erected a monument to the rock on which he had struck and named it the “Pre’ s rock”. Trace his life through film.

This program is to commemorate the American long-distance running legend Steve Prefontaine, and provide a memorial place for pilgrims to gather in the site of his unexpected death. The plan is to use a character recording film "without limit" to deeply understand and restore Stephen’s life, and to translate each exhibition space with important characters interacting with the protagonist, and through the design of mainstream and sub-stream lines, let visitors learn from their Perspective once again to experience Puli's life. In the end, two finale pavilions were set up to allow visitors to think about the meaning of life.

exploration, feeling, adventure, fun Spatial cognitive ability is as important as language ability and mathematical ability. Children need rich natural experience, contact with animals and plants, and feel the beauty and inconceivability of nature. Learn to love, respect and live in peace with nature Natural space can be a teaching aid for children, like trees.

Inspired by the shape of the tree, our idea is to create a space under the tree, so the branches and stems of the tree will connect with each other into a structural form and form a space under its shelter. In this way, the artificial forest will dance with the natural trees in the park. Trees and buildings have been linked since the beginning of history. Trees have complex shapes and physical, mechanical and biological functions. People have been paying attention to the relationship between shape and structural strength in architectural design, resulting in tree structure.
