Architecture as an Instrument of Culture As architects we are responsible not only for the construction of new architectures, but also for the management of the built environment at large. Although its important to get to know objects themselves, it’s more important to focus on the way they relate to others. In this respect, I try to do architecture that works more as an medium through which people could express themselves, than as a container. This way of designing has very little to do with sustainability, but a lot with political ecology.

The truth is, nightclubs works as human grazing accelerators. People are more easy to hook up, make friends and build further relationship in nightclubs. All the techniques used by nightclubs cooperate together to make things happen. They are organized, forming a sequence that resonates with the music we have been listening to all night long.
Show
To revive the nightlife in New York, we rebuild the lost nightclubs in its original site, nightclubs will become a distributed collection of infrastructures, overlapped to the architecture of office buildings, the collective spaces of residential buildings, transportation infrastructures. The city environment becomes its container.
That’s the beauty of club- it’s flexibility. Whatever influence is brought about becomes part of that organism.

2.CHINA WALLS _Hybrid Residential Infrastructures 06.2015-08.2015, GSAPP Instructor: Juan Herreros, Ignacio Gonzalez Immigrant residential community in Chinatown express themselves by occupying facades with diverse elements, which show and meet their needs at the same time, but also requires negotiation. Facades, as containers where people’s activities happen, are far less than what people need. As an identity of Chinatown, the crowded elements on the façade should be reorganized with new order, but not be removed. Façade is an arena of neighborhood with negotiation and collective wills. Therefore, a system of negotiation between individuals is created as a second facade. Collective and individual activities and expressions can be brought together, over time, to form a diverse whole through the introduction of this infrastructure that brings in education, employment and public space.
3.NYSNYD CIRCUS
_Now You See Now You Don’t _SPECTACLE JUXTAPOSITION OF HOMELESS PEOPLE AND URBAN ENVIRONMENT 01.2016-05.2016 Instructor: Mario Gooden, Carson Smuts
Moving Vehicles of NYSNYD Circus According to the “Street People Research 2014/15”, there are 7383 homeless people in Cape Town in 2015, and 63% of these street people live on open streets. Furthermore, Cape Town city bowl, where most tourist stay, is also an area in which lives 27% of the homeless. NYSNYD means “now you see now you don’t”. It provides the homeless what they want, and one the other hand, it does not interrupt other people’s life. Homeless needs bath, clothes, food, education during the day, and beds, warmth at night.
The Grand Parade would be the home base of the mobile circus. In the daytime, small gadgets- inflatable public bathroom, free clothes store, mobile library, soup kitchen-are deployed to go into the shadow of the city along the daytime route, provide them safe places for various activities. On the Grand Parade, the empty “crane towers” work as a sight-seeing tower for tourist people, to enjoy the view of Cape Town city bowl.
At night, the small gadgets come back to the Grand Parade, and mobile cellular hotels come out to pick up homeless people. The NYSNYD Circus works as the door between the two worlds, through which we can donate food and clothes to who have needs, and homeless people could enter our world with clean clothes and healthy body. It’s the medium with which we could get in touch with each other in a gentle way. The two worlds could overlap, and finally merge into one.
The unique character of Cape Town extreme happiness with spectacular scenery- could give another the circus another meaning. While it’s a moving service space, it could also be a space providing entertainment and pleasure. Overlapped function with the existing urban environment could serve more people. The circus could be run by homeless people. In this way, it not only creates more job opportunities, but also shows us how thehomeless could change the city.
4.UNFLATTENED STREETS _ Growing Community
02.2014-04-2014, SEU Individual work
2014-2016 31 new families 96 unit boxes in total
2016-2018 77 new families join in 299 unit boxes in total
2018-2020 99 new families join in 558 boxes in total
Nowadays, the majority of Chinese people are trapped in their houses- the inflated residential market disables us to change our houses into larger ones. Apart from this, people are trapped in their houses because the public space in current communities is too boring to hang out.
What would the communities be if we create a new type of PUBLIC SURFACE? When family expands, the owner only have to purchase for one more living unit, and add the new living unit adjacent to or on top of their house by demand. Spatial experience in this community is exciting and diverse. Scene changes as you are walk through the community. You will see different kinds of public place, meet different people, and watch different stories that taking place along circulation.
5.SECOND GROUND
_ Plant Exhibition Center for Teenagers
TOP 10
China Contest of the Rookies’ Award
for Architectural Students 09.2012- 11.2012, SEU Individual work
EXHIBITION CONTENT Root Exhibition: Roots of plants are showed in a different angle. Aquatic plants are raised in transparent water vats, so that children could see the roots clearly.
Stem Exhibition: Stems' sections in microscope are displayed to tell children how the stems deliver moisture.
Leaf Exhibition: We have small art studios in this exhibition room which provide children with tools to make handcrafts with leaves that they collect outdoors. Children could feel the beauty of leaves through making art works themselves.
Flower Exhibition: The aroma of sweet-scented osmanthus trees raised in the greenhouse pervades the whole exhibition room, making the room a perfect place to rest and play. Children could play and have a rest in the holes on the display panels.
Fruit Exhibition: Various fruits with various sizes are preserved in the glass tubes.
CONCEPT
The site is located in a botanical garden with various trees, taking my mind back to childhood memories of being too short to reach tree branches. Although I was eager to know the stories taking place between the branches and leaves, I could only imagine while looking up into the scattered light. After analyzing distributions of trees, I found that most of the trees within boundary line are five to eight meters tall, which is suitable for climbing and observing. This inspired me to provide a place that would lift the children up to reach the crown.

GENERATION OF SECOND GROUND
Most children are bored with exhibitions with only one route. The various rooms are connected by second ground so each child can choose his or her own route. Which arouses the enthusiasm of the attendants.

7.PARALLEL ROOMS _ Non-functional Sapce 09.2011, SEU
This is a project in my first year, leading us to do some funcky experiments on spacing by simple operations. With the space designed, I tried to imagine the space as a real arhitecture artifact with people's circulations and experience in it. The interesting thing is that, tubular space demarcates people's circulations, followed by varied spatial experience along the parallel and thus differentiated circulations.

Cha’erHutong is a quiet hutong among the busy Dashilar in city center of Beijing. Cha’erHutong#8 is a typical “Da-Za-Yuan”(big-messy-courtyard)once was occupied by over a dozen families. Over the past five decades, the families each built an added-on small kitchen in the courtyard. In this project, instead of wiping the small added-on structures out, we tried to renovate them, redesign them and re-use them. In doing so, we intend to recognize the addedon structuresas an important historical layer and as an critical embodiments of Beijing’s contemporary civilianlifein hutongthat is so often been overlooked.

SYMBIOTIC RENEWAL OF BAICAIYUAN
ACADEMIC WORK 11.2013-01.2014
Time built 1910s
Baicaiyuan is important in our bicycle channel system in that it is the joint point between the circular lane and the linear lane. Therefore, we chose Baicaiyuan for further design. We are surprised to find out that although abandoned, almost all the historic buildings are in good situation. Most of the old buildings are planned to take the same jobs according to history. Some of them are planned to serve for the new bicycle lane.
