Talk about
beauty.
The idea that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ is becoming more and more improbable. We’re constantly exposed to glossy magazine pages of tall, slim beautifully proportioned models that is tainting the way we view our own bodies. The fact is this: It’s okay to have that extra bit of weight, that you just can’t shift. It’s okay to have wrinkles. It’s okay to be shorter than your average six foot model. To aspire to look like the creatures presented within the pages of magazines, well, you’d better download Photoshop. What we are viewing is not necesssarily natural. It is retouched, retouched, retouched.

Alternative ideas of beauty need to be explored more within the fashion industry. Images that the majority can relate to will create a positive impact and not warp our minds into striving to look like something different. Beauty is present in more ways than one. Encouraging more of a variation of sizes, ages and colour will create more interest in the industry from those who never thought they had a place. Fashion as an industry is huge, but there’s nothing wrong with adding a
little
diversity.
