Village Farm Tiny Home

Who is village farm?

Village Farm is a tiny home community centered around Green Gate Farm and based in East Austin with a mission to simplify life and cultivate a sense of community.

Founded in 2018

“At Village Farm, we believe that fostering a strong sense of community is at the heart of our tiny home.”

Concept

The design is inspired by the ancient Iberians during the Neolithic Age, located on the Iberian Peninsula, now home to Spain and Portugal. They lived in villages and their communities were based on a tribal organization. The Iberian’s small homes were built around a multi-functional main room that consisted of raw materials such as tree trunks, adobe, and stone plinth. With an introduction to agriculture, farming and pottery were two important aspects the Iberians incorporated into their daily routines, leading them to be more urbanized than their neighbors.

The Village Farm Tiny Home Community shares characteristics with the Iberians in terms of living within compact multi-functional spaces and the agrihood culture, where everyone is connected and live as a community.

With a modernized twist to the lifestyle of the Iberians, the tiny home will feature Spanish Revival designs along with carved clay tiles to highlight the famous pottery and the incorporation of the building materials seen throughout their homes such as wood and adobe-like walls. In addition, the space will feature an atrium to invite the outdoors in, along with adequate amounts of natural lighting and an open space to create a comfortable and airy environment.

Golden Girls Home Remodel

Who is the client?

This home is designed for three women in their mid-to-late 50s who desire to live communally as they grow older. Since the clients are still young and thriving, certain measures for living in place will not need to be taken just yet.

Built in 1955

This single-family home highlights the principles pertaining to visitability and universal design by defining what it truly means to age-in-place.

Concept

The design is inspired by evolutionary adaptation and how organisms adjust to their environment in order to improve their chances at survival within their habitat.

Similar to the client, home modifications will be applied throughout the space to create an environment that is adaptable as the clients grow and evolve while aging in place. The remodel will combined efficiency, security, and functionality to create a safe and comfortable atmosphere where they can live out the rest of their lives.

Also, to pay tribute to the time period the home was built, the remodel will include mid-century modern features to bring out existing characteristics of the home. Design aspects like clean lines, large windows, an open plan, and indoor-outdoor living will be featured throughout the home along with warm tones and organic materials to create a cozy and inviting space.
