Dear Friend of Coastal Carolina Athletics: On behalf of our coaches, administrative and support staff and more than 425 student-athletes, thank you for your continued support of Chanticleer Athletics. The 2011-12 academic year was once again filled with tremendous achievements by our studentathletes – in the classroom, on the playing fields and in the community. As you review this annual report, I hope that you, too, will be proud of the achievements of our student-athletes. Their success is a by-product of your generous commitment to their University. Success does not happen by chance, it is a result of many – students, alumni, donors, faculty and H unter Y urachek staff, parents, sponsors and volunteers – who share our vision and support our programs. In the end our Director of Athletics student-athletes remain at the core of everything we do as we create opportunities for each of them to succeed academically, athletically and as members of this community, and most importantly, as Champions for Life. During the 2011-12 campaign Coastal Carolina was a leader in the Big South Conference and placed teams and individuals on the national stage during post-season competition. Among our many accolades: • 13 of 17 sports programs finished third or higher in the Big South Conference. • Four teams won their respective Big South regular season and/or championships. • Four teams advanced to post-season competition. • Individuals from men and women’s golf, and men and women’s track and field were invited to compete in NCAA Regional events. • Men’s Soccer was ranked as high as ninth in the nation by Soccer America. • Six student-athletes earned All-American selections. Academically, our student-athletes also enjoyed tremendous success in 2011-12: • Of 17 sports programs, 14 teams achieved cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or higher, including all 10 of the women’s teams. • Collectively, student-athletes achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.985, which exceeds the cumulative average for all Coastal Carolina University students. • 79 student-athletes earned their degrees from Coastal Carolina University. • Coastal Carolina senior standouts Tucker Frawley and Marcus Lott were named Academic All-America, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Again, on behalf of the entire Coastal Carolina University Department of Athletics, I thank you for your generous support. I hope you enjoy reading this report and celebrate your instrumental role as a part of the Chanticleer Athletics family.

The program posted a solid 3.577 GPA and has won this award in 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011. The individual awards portion began with the student-athletes showing their appreciation to Wesley Fondren, assistant professor of communication in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, who was named the Student-Athlete Faculty Member of the Year. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee awards the Student-Athlete Faculty Member of the Year for his or her academic, athletic and personal support toward the success of student-athletes. In addition, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee presented the Department of Athletics Staff Member of the Year award to Samantha Kost, an academic advisor in Student-Athlete Academic Support Services. The softball team was awarded the Comeback Team of the Year. After posting a 25-33 record in 2011, the team ended the 2012 season with a 44-19 record, which ties the softball all-time mark for wins in a single season. Additionally, the Chanticleers won the program’s first Big South title since the 2006 season, made its first NCAA Regional since 2006 and won its first NCAA Regional game since 2000.
