BASEBALL ADVANCES TO SEVENTH STRAIGHT NCAA REGIONAL While Coastal had its streak of Big South Championships snapped at six this season, Coastal’s strong finish in the month of May combined with its solid RPI and strength of schedule was enough to earn the Chanticleers their seventh straight NCAA Regional berth. In fact, Coastal is one of just 11 schools in the country that has made a regional appearance each year since 2007, joining Florida State, Miami (Fla.), South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Rice and Cal State Fullerton. Coastal faced 10 teams that made the NCAA field of 64 in 2013, including four teams that hosted regionals (North Carolina, North Carolina State, Kansas State and Indiana).
MEN’S TENNIS MAKES FIRST NCAA APPEARANCE; SWEEPS CONFERENCE The Coastal Carolina’s men’s tennis program earned the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the conference tournament for the first time since 1994. At the Durham Regional, the first NCAA postseason appearance for the program, the Chanticleers faced Duke University. The Chanticleers also claimed the Big South regular season title after posting a perfect 8-0 record in conference matches. Head coach Chris Powers was named the 2013 Coach of the Year by the Big South. In addition, six members of the men’s tennis team received conference honors, including all-conference nods to Yusuke Kusuda and Garik Yedigarian.
ALAN LEFORCE RETIRES; JAIDA WILLIAMS TABBED SUCCESSOR • After 16 years on the Chanticleer sideline, women’s basketball head coach Alan LeForce retired following the 2012-13 season. LeForce closed his Chanticleer career as the program’s all-time winningest coach with a 228226 (.502) record. LeForce, who was named the 1998-99 Big South Coach of the Year, coached two conference players of the year, a conference defensive player of the year and a conference freshman of the year. In addition, four of Coastal’s top 10 all-time leading scorers played under LeForce’s tutelage. • Jaida Williams was introduced as the sixth women’s basketball head coach in Chanticleer history on April 12. Williams comes to Conway after serving on Jennifer Hoover’s staff at Wake Forest. She spent the 2012-13 season as the Demon Deacons’ assistant coach and recruiting coordinator where she built a top-20 recruiting class.

CHAMPIONS IN THE COMMUNITY
CHANTS FOR KIDS INITIATIVE CONTRIBUTES MORE THAN 2,000 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE For the third straight year the Department of Athletics has participated in The Chants for Kids Community Service Initiative which provides a means of assisting children locally, regionally and nationally through the efforts of student-athletes, administrators and coaches of Coastal Carolina University. The initiative seeks to enhance community relations by contributing more than 2,000 hours of volunteer service to a variety of organizations, while placing an emphasis on the well-being of today’s youth.
Prior to the holiday season the Department of Athletics hosted the third annual “Adopt-A-Chant Campaign” to help provide 31 children in Horry County a happy holiday season. This was a substantial increase over last year’s total, when Coastal Carolina Athletics adopted six children. The 31 children submitted a “wish list,” and Coastal Carolina teams, individual student-athletes and members of the athletics administration gathered items such as toys, clothes and shoes to provide help for those who may not otherwise have gifts.
DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS TAKES ACTIVE ROLE WITH CHANTICREW In August, Coastal Carolina athletic department officials and student-athletes did their part to help incoming freshmen settle into their new homes. Fifteen members of the Department of Athletics Leadership team, players from both the football and volleyball teams and lacrosse coaches Jaime Sellers and Christie Kaestner joined nearly 400 volunteers for Chanticrew in participating in Move-In Day 2012. The volunteers greeted families at their vehicles and helped move belongings into the freshman residence halls.
