HOTEL GEOMAG Team Project
Philosophy & Inspiration “Frequence” was the motif of Hotel GEOMAG. The idea came from a magnetic construction toy which had a geometric shape. We utilized this shape to create many of the constructions concepts. Our goal was to repeat the same element over and over again. The commission was to design a New York Style Hotel by using an existing historical building that was located in The Old Montreal District, of Canada.

LOBBY 1F Hotel lobby is located at left side of the main entrance. A Geometric-shaped front desk is presented in front of the clean white polished concrete spiral staircase.
A whole bunch of brass pyramids are hanged right above the front desk reflects the same path as the brass geometric ornament. The oyster bar and restaurant are at the right side of the main floor which represents the typical lounge ambiance of New York night life. Fluffy ceiling nicely softens and give a relaxing feeling to the bar.

OYSTER BAR & RESTAURANT
TYPICAL GUEST ROOM 3F-9F Guest room is tiny, but elegant by integrating transparent wall which divides the bath area and sleep area. By doing so, it brings lights into the bathroom, but creates kind privacy by placing the frosted glass in the middle part of the glass wall.
Round brass framed mirrors hang on the geometric shaped tile creating luxury and peace.

BAUMINIMALISM DANISH HOME DECO RETAIL STORE Team Project
Philosophy & Inspiration Our concept: “Less is more”, was inspired by the Parti of Bauhaus, which is similar to the ideal of minimalism. We combined the above with the function and simple style of Danish furniture. The name of the store “ Bauminimalism” means the inspiration of Bauhaus and minimalism. This store is located in SOHO, which is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in New York City. This area is well known for it’s high rents and expensive merchandise. Thus, we concentrated on sofas and chairs, which are, some of the most expensive items people purchase for their homes. Great effort was spent on creating an upscale ambience, which featured lighting that highlighted the furniture.

Hidden LED lighting is installed at one side of the polished concrete staircase which is hanging from the high ceiling all the way to the ground floor with the gun smoky steel chain.

Second Floor is single piece showcase area. The steel display shelf with LED strip lighting is used to illustrate furnitures individually. The fixture illumination chair display wall is inspired by the Gucci Store.
The staggered floor represents layering and more strongly showcases the geometric structure. A little outdoor touch brings homey, cozy and relaxing ambiance and eye-catching features from street.

REHABILITATION CENTRE FOR WAR VETERANS
Philosophy & Inspiration This rehabilitation center is using a hospitality model which will create a life and ability affirming environment while integrating the patients back into a normal, hopeful, challenging, and confidence building environment. There are many war veterans who come home from war with physical injuries that are very apparent. Some of them have had amputations and traumatic head injuries. These injuries can be diagnose and treated well by modern, cutting edge medical technology. The rehabilitation center was designed to be able to provide physical and psychological therapies. The most prominent psychological injuries that is diagnosed is post-traumatic-stress-disorder which is usually refer to as PTSD. Some of the symptoms of PTSD include flashbacks of fatal battles with the enemy, nightmares, and taking out hostility towards family members. Some of the treatments for PTSD include individual and group talk therapy, meditation, hypnosis, art therapy and animal therapy. All of these therapies can be administered at the Rehabilitation Center for War Veterans.

DINING & BAR 1F The Outdoor area which is connect to the restaurant was designed to help build social skills. The landscape view was integrated into the dining area. The Restaurant includes a buffet style menu which gives people choices and teaches them how to have a healthy life style, with good nutrition, and positive social skills. Patients are encouraged to sit with other patients or staff to help build social skills. The restaurant, kitchen, and dinning area where created to be accessible following the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). with family as well.

ATRIUM & GROUP THERAPY ROOM 1F The central part of the rehab center is a three stories glass tower which includes Meditation Room, Group Counseling Room, and Animal Therapy Room. The Group Counseling Room is located in the center of the ground floor. The seating arrangement is in the shape of a circle, this seating arrangement allows people to see each other so that they will feel secure and equal. All rooms feature electronic frosted glass which can be turn on and off to provide privacy during meditation, counseling, and therapy sessions. HYDROTHERAPY POOL Another key feature of the project is the hydrotherapy pool which is located in the back of the building. This pool area was designed with a long vault to look like a “shell”. The accent lighting and oval-shape window were designed to create a soft lighting ambience which produces a calming and cozy effect.

DOMBO FOLK ART MUSEUM & EDUCATION CENTER
Philosophy & Inspiration The concept of this project was layering. Art was used as a method to express, educate, and share history and stories about artist themselves. After War World II, women used to embroider geometric patterns. They used to use human faces and floral patterns to created quilt collages as a way to express themselves. They made quilt collections as a kind of folk art. Examples of this can be seen at the American Museum of Folk Art. This space and environment was created to bring us back to the time when American Folk Art was the main experience that poeples used to express themselves in the places they lived; just like the artist that began the renewed development of Dombo.

RMAP GALLERY WITH SKYLIGHT 1F This is a permanent display area which presents a brief history of American Folk Art and the artist who made a significant contribution to American Folk Art. This Gallery was designed following the Amican with Disabilities Act and was made accessible to all including a ramp that is wheelchair accessible. The Gallery was created to allow visitors to experience a journey of how Dombo has transformed from a poor manufacturing warehouse neighborhood to a place which is now considered one of the most artistic, historic, and attractive areas in Brooklyn.
