Congratulations to IB Candidates in the Class of 2021 We would like to recognize the Chapel Class of 2021. This group spent almost their entire two year IB journey in an online or hybrid learning environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even with frequent disruptions and constant uncertainty about how their academic careers would unfold, this group rose to meet all challenges, both personal and academic, to thrive in these trying times. The results detailed in the pages that follow are a testament to the hard work and perseverance that these students showed over the two years of the Diploma Program. Chapel School is proud of the candidates and their achievements and wish to share their excellent results with you. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

Mr. Donald Campbell Chapel IB Coordinator

At Chapel School all students have access to an education that prepares them for life as global citizens. Beginning in 1980 as the first International Baccalaureate World School in Brazil, and furthered in 2007 when we pioneered our IB FOR ALL philosophy, Chapel students have been admitted into higher education institutions around the world and in Brazil, taking the IB diploma into consideration.

“The IB had a very important role in my application to universities in the USA and Canada. From the get-go, I already had fewer classes during my first semester (and shall take fewer classes in the future) because I am able to substitute them for my university credits, earned while I completed the corresponding IB subjects. Therefore, due to the IB, I didn’t endure much of the stress that students undergo during their first semester at university. I adapted easily to the more complex subjects, the greater workload and in general, I have more time to explore the opportunities that UBC offers and make the most of my time on campus. While a student is still taking the IB it is hard to visualize the substantial impact that the program will have throughout their university career.” - Pedro de Marchi, Chapel alumnus from the class of 2021, currently studying Commerce at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver

I believe that the program greatly prepared me for my standardized test application to INSPER. This was true for the first phase as well as the second one, which included a debate and an essay. The IB helped a lot with my writing technique but also made me an articulate and good speaker. I obtained an excellent grade of 926/1000 and was placed 53rd amongst all candidates.” - Raphael Boueiri, Chapel alumnus from the class of 2021, currently studying Business Administration at INSPER

Brazil Abroad “I believe that the whole IB process for the last two years really prepared me for college, especially because of the level of depth that certain subjects had, like Mathematics. For my first semester at college, I studied Calculus I, the content of which I had already covered in the IB. Furthermore one of the core IB subjects, Theory of Knowledge, is very similar to one of my current classes called ‘Critical and Ethical Thought’, which has made the class easier because I already know the content. Throughout my IB years, I learned strategic skills like oral presentations and many interpersonal relations, which have been super useful to me in university.” - Maria Fernanda Melo, Chapel alumnus from the class of 2021, currently studying Business Administration at INSPER

To have completed the program, which is very challenging, brought me an enormous sense of pride, and to receive the diploma was one of the most gratifying moments of my life. The IB brought me benefits that surpass academics: learning how to deal with the feeling of being overwhelmed and how to work more efficiently. The IB was essential for my application to colleges abroad. Since there were fewer opportunities to take standardized tests (like the SAT or the ACT) during the pandemic, many universities ended up not taking them into account, the IB helped me stand out amongst the other thousands of applicants.” - Letícia Barbosa, Chapel alumnus from the class of 2021, currently studying Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

“The IB was a rigorous program that helped me alot with the transition into university. I acquired many skills that I will use throughout my whole life, like critical thinking and problem solving. These two aspects have been really important during my first semester of university , especially since they are key points for my course in Business Administration.” - Luana Moussa, Chapel alumna from the class of 2021, currently studying Business Administration at Link School of Business
