CALIFORNIA’S GOLD EXHIBIT AND HUELL HOWSER ARCHIVE

Leatherby Libraries, Basement The joy that the late TV legend Huell Howser shared with generations of Californians infuses a new permanent exhibit sponsored by the Automobile Club of Southern California and housed in Chapman University’s Leatherby Libraries. The exhibit includes images, texts and artifacts that depict Howser’s career and legacy in California. The exhibit is free and open to the public. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Explore the mystery, history, and controversy of the remaining fragments of the surviving Mayan written word in this fascinating presentation. 2 – 3 p.m.

Folino Theater, Marion Knott Studios Director of Digital Arts Bill Kroyer looks at the history and technology of a key ingredient of movie magic: compositing, how images from different worlds are combined on-screen. From the earliest matte paintings to recent student work, Kroyer will explain how fantasy characters, props and environments are combined with live images. 3 – 4 p.m.

CHAPMAN MAGAZINE PRESENTS “OFF THE PAGE: UNDERWATER PUPPIES” WITH AUTHOR SETH CASTEEL ‘03

Irvine Lecture Hall, Hashinger Science Center His bubbly, irresistible photos of underwater dogs made Seth Casteel ’03 an international phenomenon two years ago, and also gave Chapman Magazine its most popular cover ever. Since then, Seth’s images have been featured in National Geographic, The New York Times, the Today show and on Good Morning America, and his first book, Underwater Dogs, became a New York Times best seller as well as the top-selling gift book in America. Now his latest release, Underwater Puppies, is getting a splashy launch, making this an exciting time for Seth to return to Chapman and share his story with fellow alumni and friends. He’ll display his latest

underwater images and talk about his journey, including how he volunteers his time to help shelter pets find forever homes. His books will be available for sale and signing after Seth’s presentation. 1 -2 p.m.

Allred Pool, Allred Aquatics Center, Lastinger Athletics Complex The Panthers aim to avenge a 15-9 loss to Concordia last year as the two teams battle for Orange County supremacy in a non-conference match. 4 – 6:30 p.m.

5TH ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF AND TAILGATE

Attallah Piazza Something spicy is in the air for Chapman’s 5th annual Chili Cook-Off, sponsored by the Chapman University Alumni Association. The competition is tough and the prizes are smokin’. Enjoy sampling unique chilis and hanging out in the beer and wine garden. 6:30 – 10 p.m.

HOMECOMING GAME VIEWING PARTY IN THE PIAZZA

Attallah Piazza All members of the Chapman Family are invited to stay in Attallah Piazza after the Chili Cook-Off and Tailgate and watch the big game on live streaming TVs. The beer and wine garden will remain open and food will be available for purchase. 7 p.m.

HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME VS. POMONA-PITZER COLLEGES Wilson Field, Chapman Stadium, Lastinger Athletics Complex Last Homecoming, the fireworks on the field were even more impressive than the ones in the sky as the Panthers set a stadium record with 72 points.

This year they’ll take on SCIAC foe Pomona-Pitzer in a game that is expected to have playoff implications for the mighty Cardinal and Gray. Tickets for this event must be purchased through the Athletics Department. Note: A ticket guarantees entrance into the game, but does not guarantee a seat on the home side. A wristband will also be needed to enter on the home side. Wristbands will be available starting at 5 p.m. at the entrance to the stadium. 7:30 p.m.
