All current Ohio fellows in an Ohio cardiology training program are invited to present their research (past or present) during the poster session, scheduled for Saturday, October 16. Eligible posters may present recent data, case study* or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting. The abstracts will be judged in advance to select the top two abstracts for oral presentation. The rest of the accepted abstracts will be presented as posters and judged at the poster presentation on Saturday, October 16. There are cash prizes! Visit http://ohioaccmeetings.org/am/ poster/ *If you submit a case study: 1. Case reports should be of a rare, unusual, or unexpected finding in a patient; 2. The diagnosis should be known or the workup as complete as possible (all evidence as to the diagnosis should be included); 3. There should be a brief review of the literature including numbers of patients with similar findings/ outcomes, risk factors, how it has been evaluated/treated, and outcomes where known; 4. The case should include as much follow-up as is available; 5. Pathology slides and supporting evidence should be included.

STATEMENT OF NEED Physicians and cardiac care associates are required to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest clinical developments in the practice of cardiology to improve patient outcomes.

The Ohio Chapter-ACC Annual Meeting will include education that provides needs-based learning covering a thorough overview of the state of cardiology, therapeutic hypothermia, diabetes, congenital heart disease, appropriate use of cardiac electronic devices, imaging and peripheral vascular disease.

OVERALL GOAL The overall goal of this activity is to increase learner competence by discovering strategies to anticipate research-driven changes in practice, to enhance professional growth, and to demonstrate efficacy in team based patient care practice as new clinical approaches and technologies change.

LEARNER OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: • Describe the ACC position on health care reform implementation.

• Examine the appropriate patient population and recommended techniques of therapeutic hypothermia.

• Identify patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are appropriate candidates to receive aspirin, ACE-I/ARB therapy, and statins for both primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events.

• Analyze common problems unique to adult patients with congenital heart disease that we will see in our practice.

• Identify selection criteria for patients for whom device-based therapy for heart failure and primary prevention of sudden cardiac death would be beneficial.

• Discuss the appropriate selection and use of cardiac CT and MRI imaging in patients with cardiac disease.
