Call for P ost e rs – Fe llows -in -T rain in g ! All current Ohio fellows in a cardiology training program are invited to present their research (past or present) during the poster session, scheduled for Saturday, October 17. Eligible posters may present recent data, case study or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting. The abstracts will be judged in advance to select the top two abstracts for oral presentation. The rest of the accepted abstracts will be presented as posters and judged at the poster presentation on Saturday, October 17. There are cash prizes! The winner of the Ohio-ACC poster competition will be invited to participate in a New! Best FIT (Fellows in Training) Poster Awards National Competition at ACC.10 in Atlanta. The ACC.10 registration fee will be waived; although the College is unable to reimburse for travel, hotel and per diem expenses. As a semi-finalist in the national competition, your poster must be displayed for the entire length of the meeting. Experts will judge the posters according to set criterion; prizes will be awarded to the top national winners and announced at the popular ACC.10 and i2 Summit Highlights session on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. As the Ohio-ACC poster winner participating in the ACC.10 Best FIT Poster Awards National Competition, you must withdraw any other duplicate abstract(s) that have been submitted and accepted in either the general ACC/i2 Summit or Young Investigators Awards programs. Physicians and cardiac care associates are required to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest clinical developments in the practice of cardiology to improve patient outcomes. The Ohio Chapter-ACC Annual Meeting will include education that provides needs-based learning covering a thorough overview of atrial fibrillation, sleep disordered breathing and heart failure, health care reform, percutaneous valves, cardiac risk assessment and nuclear cardiology.

ACCF/Chapter committee members, faculty, staff and other individuals who are in a position to control the content of this activity are required to disclose all real or apparent conflicts of interest. All relevant potential conflicts of interest that are identified are thoroughly vetted through a process that includes course directors and appropriate peer review by education committee chairs/members, for fair balance, scientific objectivity and validity, patient care and safety recommendations. Full disclosure will be published in the syllabus.

Ov erall Goal The overall goal of this activity is to bring about quality patient care by increasing aptitude about quality indicators and improving competence of proficiency in clinical decision-making.

L e arner Ob je ctiv e s Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: ■

Discuss the indications for anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation and know the newer medications used to do this.

Review the signs and symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea and the reasons why this disease can contribute to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

Describe the ACC position on health care reform and the reasons why such reforms are essential.

Analyze the indications and limitations of percutaneous valve replacement procedures.

Examine the literature, including the JUPITER trial, on the use of statin therapy in low risk patients.

Discuss the indications and limitations of PET scanning in patients with coronary artery disease.

Differentiate between the new and old versions of the ACC and STS data collection forms.

The American College of Cardiology Foundation is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The ACCF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses American College of Cardiology Foundation is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
