Research & Colour Palette

Designs The left page showcases my creative reseach, along with the colour pallette for this collection. I looked into the mining scene in the North East and found the colours of their uniform created a bright and interesting palette for a lingerie range. The designs are then influenced mainly by the machinery I photographed at Woodhorn Museum. The bold and angled machinery translated well when adding style lines onto my lingerie designs.

Technical Drawing & Photographic Styling This technical drawing shows the colour balance used and stitching used to construct this lingerie set. It also shows a close up showing where the cover stitch is used as a decorative element. Creating lines that reflect the machinery I had photographed during my research stage. The photography for this was inspired by Steven Klein’s use of colour in photographic styling. I also wanted to ensure the background complimented but didn’t distract from the garment.

Imagined History Third Year Project

Research & Moulage This project was in partnership with the Discovery Museum in Newcastle. Creating a garment inspired by Edwardian/Victorian items exhibited and stored in the museums archives. After drawing from a number of these beautiful items I experimented with colour and fabrication looking at how to create my own embellishments to form trims and details to be used on my lingerie designs. looking at how to create my own embellishments to form trims and details to be used on my lingerie designs. Below show a few images of my initial moulage techniques. With our summer project focusing on Tailoring and after visiting the Bowes Museum to see the YSL exhibition I wanted to incorporate this style and use it to update lingerie design. Because tailoring focuses heavily on the pattern cutting I had to use both moulage and toiles to form the correct shape.

Range Plan Technical Drawings Once designed I created CADs of each design to show the construction of each garment in detail. Due to my choice of fabrics I chose to use just an outline for my technical drawings and to demonstrate the fabrication and colour use. Both the range plan and line up show the full collection and how I would intend the garments to be styled with one and other.

Photographic Styling I created a moodboard from both my own and found imagery (courtesy of Pinterest) to aid my photography styling. With this project having influences from Victorian Garments, I used this era to inspire the look of my photography. Looking in particular at the Victorian Gothic period. I made both a bralette and trousers as well as styling my model and making a Victorian Gothic inspired necklace to complete the look. The bra showcases the bespoke leaf trim I created using dissolvable fabric.
