Street Style -

Street style photography in Newcastle City Centre. Photographs taken from around Grey’s Monument and Northumberland Street. The heart of Newcastle is home to many stylish individuals. These images demonstrate how different styles are unique and yet still on trend. For SS16 the bright colours and smart/casual look will be right at home on the streets of any bustling city. Whether that is in smaller cities or cities like London. It’s the trendsetters who will adopt the trends early. Everyone else will catch up.

SS16 will step away from the monochrome style that seems to be increasingly more popular. It’s about being daring, to get out and stand out from the crowd. To be the trendsetter, not the follower. To add to our Cities beauty, not blend into the background. Let’s make rush hour a sugar rush of vibrancy, and our streets a parade of fashion. City in Colour is giving the urban style a much-needed update. A makeover. Let’s paint the town stylish.

Cultural Photograph

Cultural images from around Tyne & Wear. City in Colour, SS16 trend. Influenced by these initial cultural images. The stunning architecture and amazing art galleries are what created this urban inspired trend. The patterns, shapes and colours found when out and about in Newcastle and it’s surrounding areas influenced all aspects of this trend, from the colours, to the prints, and the capsule collection itself. After discovering the beauty in a smaller city, the next step was to see what other incredible inspiration could be found in our Capital. London was the place to be for this trend to progress. It was the cultural research that led the trend, to bring colour back to the city for the SS16 season. Gone are the days of the black and white with a hint of grey. Replaced with the classic yet contemporary combinations of colour. It’s all about bringing confidence back to the city, let the people and the style be the cities main attraction.

U COLO R STORi ES SS16 Colour Palettes

This season is all about mixing it up. It’s about merging the colour palettes to create more vibrant and quirky styles. The urban style has become so monochrome, with individuals creating ‘edgy’ outfits, but this season is about to change it all. Brighter and bolder is the new way to be ready for city life. Stand out from others on the morning commute, this season is not the time to blend in. The first palette ‘Powerful Pastels’ shows bold yet powdery colours. These colours would add vibrancy to any collection. The second more earthy colour story, ‘Colours of the land’, includes deeper tones. These full bodied colours are a good ground colour to add richness to a collection. Finally the third palette, ‘Classic Colourproof’, shows a more subdued and subtle suggestion of colour. Ideal for keeping a neutral palette in the SS16 trends, and easy to add a pop of colour where necessary. The colour palettes all work well together to create a varied, and stylish SS16 trend.

SS16 prints - are influenced by the cultural imagery shown on the previous page. From the diverse street art along Brick Lane, to the antique objects inside Cragside House. These patterns reflect the beauty found in both man made creations, as well as naturally occurring designs. The patterns are formed using original drawings, paintings, and collages. They are then edited in Photoshop using various techniques to manipulate and create a repeat. Finally patterns are coloured using the SS16 palettes.

Photography and illustration styles are constantly changing to fit in with a certain trend or to portray a certain feeling. Over the next few pages these new techniques are shown in the six illustrations. Seeing the ‘City in Colour’, it’s true beauty. Neutral tones, mixed with richer colour, and a zing of vibrancy incorporates the three SS16 colour palettes.
