Welcome from the Principal Having devoted my life to Catholic education, I believe that Our Lady of Perpetual Help will provide to you and your child faith-based, spiritual, and academic programs that serve as the stepping stones for your child’s success for a lifetime. Our mission statement truly reflects what we strive to do at our school:
“The mission of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School is to educate the whole child, mind, heart, and soul, according to the teachings of Jesus Christ.” We take pride in our accomplishments and particularly in the fact that our students perform exceptionally well on national standardized testing. In educating the whole child, our teachers offer a variety of opportunities for student success. Our Lady of Perpetual Help offers an environment rich in experience to build 21st century learners through critical thinking and problem solving. Our Lady of Perpetual Help partners with the parents on this journey to give the best to our children. This journey that we take on together is to inspire our children to lead, encourage, grow, nurture, explore, and praise. Rooted in strong academics, our children also have strong foundations in Catholic faith, morality, decision-making, and service learning. I am happy to meet with you on an individual basis to share more about our program and how we may best meet your child’s needs. Journey Together, Julie A. Freeman, Principal
“I would love for you to come and tour our school!”
Belief Statement We believe • The fundamental purpose of our Catholic school is to teach the message of Jesus Christ and to inspire the students to live the Gospel message in their lives. • Our Catholic school supports and welcomes parents as primary educators of their children, especially in the areas of faith and morals. • All students can learn and are valued as individuals who have unique intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. • High expectations for student achievement and specific standards provide for a high quality curriculum where students are actively engaged in challenging learning processes. • The school provides a physically safe, positive, and supportive Christian learning enviroment where all students can become confident, self-directed, and life-long learners.
Core Values We claim these Catholic core values as our own: • Community – We welcome each other and each stranger with an open heart reverencing the uniqueness of each person. • Faith – We live the Gospel as Jesus preached it, plainly and simply. • Service – We recognize our own gifts and claim them as ours to give away.

“The kids at Our Lady get one-on-one attention with teachers.” Billy Fannin Parent
Many of our faculty have advanced educations including Masters’ Degrees, Reading Endorsements, and training with Orton-Gillingham which approaches reading instruction as language-based, multisensory, structured, sequential, cumulative, cognitive, and flexible. We also offer the Lexia program for students who need supplemental practice in Reading and Language, and incorporate Star Math, Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, and Reading A to Z into class instruction which encourages all students to reach their maximum potential.
Our auxiliary staff from South-Western City Schools features a speech therapist and intervention specialist. We also have tutors who meet the needs for Math and Reading intervention.
PRESCHOOL, PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Our Lady of Perpetual Help offers a variety of preschool program schedules for 3, 4, and 5 year olds, to provide an opportunity for children to be involved in active learning through interaction with each other and the teacher. KINDERGARTEN – All day/every day kindergarten programs challenge students academically in reading, math, and science, as well as library, computer, art, physical education, and music – in a faith-based setting – with attention to the overall development and preparation of each student. STUDENT/TEACHER RATIO – Students enjoy personalized attention with low student to teacher ratios and educational aides. Most grade levels have two sessions with middle school grades combining select courses to enhance educational outcomes for all students.
“I chose Our Lady because of the great education! I also feel a great sense of community here, you are always welcomed in the halls.” Julie Walkenhorst Parent
“We have great kids and families. You can go to a public school and get an education but Our Lady has an added faith based education which is critical. Sam Seggerson PE Teacher
FOCUSING ON THE STUDENT – Our Lady offers an Intervention Assistance Team (IAT) which is comprised of an Intervention Specialist and Guidance Counselor who work with parents, teachers, and students to meet specific needs in the classroom. Our Intervention Specialist not only works with students who need extra help, but also works with gifted students who have been identified by their teacher as needing enrichment. Emphasis is placed on enhancing interpersonal and technical communication, strengthening cognitive abilities, and increasing creativity.
“I feel very confident that my kids have been prepared academically to go out into the world to be successful. I feel the work ethic, education, and spiritual development has been an asset for both of my kids.” Mylitta Derleth Parent
“Catholic Education is really important to me and my husband. We like the size of the school and it’s very personable. Teachers are really approachable and you can email or catch them in the hall. I think the continuity of people you go to school with and the same people you go to church with is a community.” Michelle Paul Parent
LATCHKEY – Our Lady’s Children, the latchkey program at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, provides childcare services to the school community of Our Lady School. Students in grades Kindergarten and up may be enrolled for before and after school care. Summer Latchkey is also available which includes special activities, field trips, and programs. TUITION AND TUITION ASSISTANCE – Our Lady of Perpetual Help families recognize the significant financial sacrifice each makes to educate their children in the faith. Parish grants to each participating family provides significant assistance. Additional tuition assistance is available through diocesan and Guardian Angel grants in an effort to ensure that current and future families can benefit from a Catholic education for many years and that no child is denied a Catholic education due to financial need.
“I believe in Catholic Education and a lot of it is the community. Our Lady has strong academics and strong community spirit. I feel we prepare our kids academically better than the public schools.
Ann Allen (6th grade teacher)
“Parishioners are very friendly and welcoming. Academics are very important to us and teachers have high expectations for the students they have in their classrooms. We have a nice community and a nice number of students per teacher, so it does not feel overwhelming to my kids and they get the attention they need. Lesley Turek (5th grade teacher and parent of students)

Soul
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM – A unique feature of a parochial school is the process of religious development and formation of its students. At Our Lady School this is maintained through a complete graded course of study in religion, which is taught in grades Pre K-8 covering the basic tenets, beliefs, traditions, and practices of the Roman Catholic faith. Sacramental preparation for Eucharist (grade 2), Reconciliation (grades 2-3-4), and Confirmation (grade 8) are incorporated into the curriculum. Eucharistic participation is of high priority with weekly Mass attendance where students participate as lectors, choir, and gift bearers. Students also have the opportunity to experience traditional devotions and practices of the Catholic faith including the rosary, Stations of the Cross, Lenten sacrifices, First Friday Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, stewardship, vocation awareness, and prayer. All boys and girls of the parish are encouraged to assist with liturgical celebrations as altar servers beginning in fourth grade. The Catholic character of Our Lady School embraces a reverence for life, self-respect, and respect for others as it strives to form Disciples of Christ who are productive citizens of a global society, responding appropriately to differences among people, and meeting the challenges of the technological age, through a life grounded in service to others by living the Gospel.
It is a true blessing to be pastor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish and school, and I am honored to serve the families of our school in their duty of educating their children not only in the faith, but in the realities of our 21st century global society. Nothing can be more noble and humbling than this. The statement of our mission truly drives everything we wish to accomplish in our school, and compels us to focus on two over-riding goals: 1) That we strive to maintain, renew, and grow our school as a premier Catholic community dedicated to educating the whole child – mind, heart, and soul; and 2) That we strive to keep our school affordable for all our parish families. Our faculty and staff are some of the most dedicated and passionate you will find in education, at any level, and model life as intentional Disciples of Christ in everything they do. Their care and love for your children extends well beyond the classroom and school day as we engage as your partners in this journey. And they will challenge your students academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically to develop their gifts and talents. I look forward to personally welcoming your family to our parish and school community. Love,
Fr. Dan Millisor Pastor, Our Lady of Perpetual Help
