Abstact How could a public space be enforced? An empty space, for example, impresses us only due to proportions and scale? It should definitely be considered the relationship between this space and the built environment. To whom is referred to and for what purpose has it been created at this specific area? It is certainly a lot that we need to be aware of, in order to comprehend why a public space works properly. Quite a few features could transform an area in central point, but also many things would motivate a person to this area. On the other hand, it will easily be argued that the reference to a circular structure, almost by itself, proposes introversion and isolation. Of course, at this point the question arises, if it is always compulsory to place a center in a project. More specifically, the creation of a synthetic centre, with the feature of a social core, can contribute decisively to the design of the solution. A place can be designated as communal, when it belongs to more than one person, but this explanation is just only a simple interpretation of this term. A communal space could be comprehended only if people, who use it, really involved in this area and submit their personal marks. Therefore, in this lecture will be analyzed both the term of the centre and how is used in architecture and urbanism. Furthermore, existed examples of buildings and squares in Greece will be taken into account, in order to apprehend the features that define the term of the centre. In addition, key factors will be man and his behavior in those environment and urban landscapes. Finally, different designs of the centre will be highlighted, as well as the o er of benefits to man and landscape.
