A TOPSY-TURVY WORLD! It was really provoking to find the social media and the country turning upside down when hearing about the loss of a girl after she commits suicide. In a blink of an eye and for two days a lot of the revolutionary-acclaimed celebrities changed their profile picture to a collage of Nada’s photos, and some wrote essays on how the system will keep on depressing the revolutionists after the glorious 25th of January Revolution, and some of Egypt’s best youth are too desperate having suicidal attempts thoughts, or even committing suicide after feeling that the revolution didn’t attain its goals. I don’t know the girl personally, but I felt that all the hassle she caused was a little bit over ratted. After investigating and reading her friends’ status ‘rest in peace I forgive you now’ and a lot of forgiveness phrases, I figured out that the cute young girl, who is a musician as well, didn’t die in the first place or commit suicide, there are claims that she owed a lot of people money to the extent that she was subjected to jail so, she decided to pretend that she killed herself to escape instead of facing her problems, which seemed to be financial and serious. With the help of her sister, she was able to spread the rumour to declare later on through a long status the suicidal Nada or ‘that is what her facebook name is’ cursing the rotten world we live in and not excluding herself from being as bad as the world is asking for everyone’s forgiveness including, her guy friend, who she used to
spread the rumour without him knowing the truth about it. If this incident had happened a couple of years ago before the revolution, it won’t stop me nor the society as a reckless girl, who has issues and is fooling around, but these days a lot of concepts, values and morals are being questionable. Suddenly, she became a hero and a martyr, who committed suicide for a cause! I miss the days when heroes were real, when the right was obvious and the wrong was agreed on, social values are turning upside down and we can make a hero of any ‘wanna be’ and question the motives of real martyrs, who die for a noble reason, it reminds me also of legalizing homosexual marriage in the United States, and how we start questioning it here in Egypt, and suddenly it became a controversial issue, where some are pro while others are against it. Breaking the norm is a good thing and it opens the door for creativity and thinking out of the box, but there must be some boundaries, or at least guidelines, to the minimum requirement of humanity and civilization and the divine beauty we were created with it; built-in. Not everything new is productive and will add value, some things are odd, fighting nature and not acceptable. In Egypt, we used to have some sound values, but now everything is questionable and sometimes you have to convince others that the right is not wrong and the wrong is not right!

Tell us more about yourself... This probably is the hardest question. Well, I’m very meticulous, I definitely have OCD, but I love it! I don’t give up easily. I have my priorities set, my family comes first then everything else. I like to have fun (preferably as often as possible). I love to sleep, need to refuel. I try to balance my life as much as possible (might be harder at times). The best part about my work is that I love it so you enjoy it, I love being inspired actually, anything and everything can inspire me. I’m a vegetarian who’s also against fur: no fur for me. And most importantly is to always be thankful; I’m thankful.

Tell us more about your latest collection... My spring/summer 2015 collection “Untamed� was a combination of several fabrics colours and styles. I used net, chiffon and some satin. Colours included a lot of blues, reds and black, but also some yellow and nudes. Inspired by elegantly wild, colourful summer thought. What are your favourite fabrics? Lace, lace, lace! All kinds of lace. I like fabrics that are different. I like different textures and I love combining fabrics. Tell us more about spring/ summer 2015 fashion trends... It’s all about mixing and matching. Blue is very in this season. Also, some fringes and statement necklaces. How has your work evolved since you began? I try to learn from my mistakes and make sure that each collection is better than the one before. I try to make my collections more diverse too.

What is your biggest fashion fauxpas? I must say the biggest fashion faux-pas would be wearing something that does not work with your body. Trends are cool, but you need to choose what best flatters your body. Who are your favourite designers? Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab. And, J’aton for bridal dresses. What would be the most important fashion tip that you give to women? Following trends is now much easier because of social media, but choose the trends that flatter you, and don’t be afraid to try new looks. What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your work? Kids fashion, I just had a baby boy less than a year ago so my obsession for kids only grew stronger. That’s why I launched the “Just Like Mommy” collection a couple of months ago. My other fascination at the moment is fabric combination, combining different fabrics in one dress. Who is the one person you would love to dress? An international celebrity, hopefully one who would be attending the Oscars too. What advice would you give to young designers? It’s not as easy as it looks, it’s super hard at first so, don’t lose hope and just when you think things are getting better you’ll encounter obstacles. Overcoming these obstacles makes the better times more rewarding, so don’t give up. What are your future plans? So many plans, my mind is all over the place at the moment. I believe I have many hopes, dreams and goals to accomplish, wish me luck.

However, if the problem is with your social life, your insecurities, or if you think that you constantly meet the wrong people then, you must work on it to force yourself to meet the right ones, as well as create a peaceful bond with yourself. Accept yourself entirely and love the person you’re seeing in the mirror or else this problem might bother you for a long period of time.

You have to believe, surrender and let down. Yeah I’m for the change, I think it’s better for those who have morning jobs to work in the morning and return home when it is still somehow sunny. It’s nice to make a good use of the morning period besides, it saves energy. It doesn’t make a difference whether or not other countries apply it, some countries have long daylight time, which makes the change unnecessary for them; however, I believe it’s necessary for developing countries.

How were you nominated for your role in ‘Alwan El Teef?’ Director Abdel Aziz Hashad & I as well as the producer of the serial are good friends. I knew that they were shooting a new TV serial, but I didn’t know any details about it until they sent me the script asking me to participate in it, I was asked to give them my decision as soon as possible as they wanted to start shooting a couple of days after that. I really liked the story; it was very interesting and so, I finished reading it in a short time. I fell in love with Alia’s character and surprisingly, after I was told that Alia is the character I should play. How did you prepare for the role? I like to picture the character’s outer appearance first then go into her depth. I discussed with the director how her look is going to be like especially that she is a girl from a local area yet, unlike the rest of the serial’s heroin’s, she is different because her father is from an upper class level. I read the script several times, and studied the character till we settled on her final look. Weren’t you worried that it won’t be aired in Ramadan? On the contrary, I liked that a lot. I’ve always believed that Ramadan is not the best time to rate a serial because the number of serials being aired in the holy month is huge. I believe Ramadan is not really a month for watching TV rather a month for religious devotion. What is the TV serial you are most keen to watch this year? I am eager to watch ‘Alf Lela We Lela’ because we haven’t watched it for years and I also admire Sherif Mounir; he is a very good friend of mine and I love him on the personal and the professional level since we worked together in the movie ‘El Labees,’ and we might participate in another project soon. I will also watch Adel Imam’s TV serial; it’s a must watch. I also like the group of actors in ‘Hawary Bokharyst,’ I will try to watch these three serials. Describe a typical day for you in Ramadan… I try as much as possible to spend it reading Quran and praying as originally it is a month for religious devotion. Also, I don’t want to lie, everyone knows that I am not a good cook so, I live on donations from my mom and mother-in-law (laughs). I actually spend it just like any family, I also try my best not to work in Ramadan; I prefer to spend it with my family. What is your favourite perfume? And who is your favourite fashion designer? I love ‘Narciso’ perfumes and ‘Roberto Cavalli’ perfume. As for fashion, I love ‘Dolce & Gabanna’ and ‘Armani,’ I admire his practical designs. As for Arab designers, I don’t have a special favourite one, I like to wear the pieces that I like the most especially Hany El Behairy’s designs and Mohamed Dagher, may God rest his soul. I was a runway model and studied fashion and that’s why I like to add my own touch on the outfit I am wearing. If your daughter wanted to join the field, would you support her decision? I will encourage her because I experienced that with my father when he refused that I work in the field, and it took him ages to be

convinced; however, I hope she doesn’t do that. It is a very stressful, tiresome job, the one thing we get is people’s love and admiration, but we suffer physically and mentally. I remember that I used to shoot for 18 hours a day, and I couldn’t spend time with my daughter and my family. I wish she doesn’t pass through that. You made a comment on your facebook page about football player Mohamed Aboutrika after his tourism company was confiscated because it was related to the Muslim brotherhood… Yes, I wrote “Egypt is the only red line” after I read some really provoking phrases by the fans of the football player saying Trika is a red line, anyone who does something wrong shouldn’t be above the law as long as his company was involved in financing violence. What was the hardest time for you during the Revolution? Actually, I am still suffering from the consequences of the chaos that happened on the 25th of January Revolution until now; a car was stolen from my house lately, thank God that it was just a car nothing happened to my family or me. However, the hardest moments were witnessing Egypt being burnt, and stolen and watching my girl crying, I was praying for Egypt and I believe that these days were the most difficult in my life. I was very clear that I’m against the 25th of January Revolution. What do you think is the role of artists in supporting Egypt? Actually, I was very disappointed to find the criticism the Egyptian stars received because they travelled with the president to Germany. The actors who went were sponsored by
a business man and some of them went on their own expenses like TV presenter Basma Wahba. I would have travelled on my own expenses if my daughter hadn’t had exams. Whenever there is a chance to participate in anything that supports Egypt I go right away. I believe that an actor’s support should be in participating in good movies and TV serials that give a positive impact to the viewer just like the president told Ahmed El Saka and Yousra. Also, the government should support art and produce movies. I didn’t want to participate in any movie with these thugs themes, this is not Egypt. In ‘Alwan El Teef, we presented a decent area in a local area not an area that is filled with aggression and violence. If you were a Goodwill Ambassador, what would be the cause you fight for? My main concern would be cleaning the Egyptian streets, it seriously gets on my nerves. My car is full of trash because I wouldn’t ever throw anything in the street. You participated in plays, what was the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever experienced live? Years ago, I was making a play with Samir Ghanem, and I was very late so, I got dressed quickly and when I went on stage I discovered that I wore two different pairs of shoes, it was so funny, the audience kept laughing and of course Samir Ghanem took advantage of the situation on stage; it was hilarious (laughs). Are you pro or against prank shows? And have you been to any of them? I am against any repeated projects, it makes you think that the media is running out of ideas. This year, there are about three prank shows about airplanes, this is too much, are we running out of ideas!? I believe Ramyz Galal is the one when it comes to these kinds of shows, there is no need to imitate him, it matches his personality, he does that even with us off stage, it’s a part of his personality. I attended two shows, which I liked and had no clue that they were hidden camera programmes. The first was ‘Helhom Benhom’ and the other was with Saad El Soghayar, but I hope I won’t do any of these shows again. Where will you spend the Iftar feast vacation? My daughter is in an American school, and they will be having exams at that time. So, I will postpone the summer vacation until she finishes her exams. We might travel to Sharm el Shiekh, or the North Coast, and then to Lebanon, I am in disparate need to spend sometime there.

Most people pass through times when they eat a bit more than usual in special occasions, but binge eating is different, it is an eating disorder where you frequently eat large amounts of food and become unable to stop eating even if you are completely full. You may eat a lot and quickly and then feel ashamed about it. It is different from bulimia nervosa, where you actually throw up to overcome the feeling of guilt. There are many causes for binge eating which include: Family history, psychological issues where you feel negative about yourself, severe dieting regiment, which might trigger an urge to binge eat and depression. How to know if you are binge eating? • Eating rapidly and out of control. • Eating until feeling uncomfortably full. • Eating alone because of being ashamed. • Feeling depressed or upset about your eating. Things might get more complicated leading to:
• Obesity • Severe depression • Anxiety • Osteoarthritis where a person’s joints degenerate in quality and might lead to loss of cartilage How to diagnose this disorder: • You feel too concerned about your binge eating. • Binge eating happens at least once a week for three months. • Secretive behaviour relating to food i.e. hiding food. • Erratic behaviour like spending huge amounts on food. Is there a Cure? Of Course there is, so calm down; it includes the following:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
It will give you a better sense of control over your behaviour and help you regulate your eating pattern. Interpersonal psychotherapy: it will focus on your relationships with others. Weight loss programs
Last but not least, always remember that life is beautiful. Do not be harsh on yourself and remember that God has created us to be happy and productive in life.
