HAND SKETCHES & RENDERINGS

In the first semester we were challenged to increase our abilities to sketch and hand render both exterior and interior environments

SPACE PLANNING & DESIGN

The Hive Office Programs Used: AutoCAD, Photoshop, Excel, Powerpoint Time Frame: 5 Weeks Semester: Third Semester Course: Design Studio III Collaborative Spaces

The Hive office was an individual space planning project as part of a scholarship competition. Our goal was to turn an empty office space into an agile workspace that will fit the employees’ hybrid work schedule. Throughout the project, we received critiques from our instructor, mentor and peers which pushed us to rethink how to solve problems. There were many factors that needed to be considered while planning out the office space, such as sunlight, noise levels, and privacy requirements, and I enjoyed the challenge immensely. Near the end I was chosen along with three other finalists to orally present my final design for a chance to win the scholarship.

WASHROOMS N.I.C. BACK OF HOUSE

The El Tortilleria Restaurant project was a team collaboration project with the purpose to design a restaurant within an existing space to meet the client’s criteria of creating an inviting, and animated environment for an authentic tortilleria experience.

Strong communication was necessary to justify every design, material, and product choice. Time management was also essential in appointing and adhering to realistic goals to meet the final deadline.

BLOCKED OFF DOOR

One challenge was trying to fit 100 seats in the restaurant while maintaining barrier free circulation and the required 44” fire exit hallway width. After reflecting on many furniture layouts, our team finally achieved a viable solution comprising of high, low, fixed, and flexible seating.

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS

The Brown Residence Program used: AutoCAD Time Frame: 4 Weeks Semester: First Semester Course: Construction Documents

The Brown Residence project required us to apply our basic knowledge of building materials and construction documentation in creating this set of residential drawings. Through the project, I gained an understanding of residential drawing standards and improved my AutoCAD skills. This drawing set includes a plan, elevations, and a building section.

The Morgan Residence Washroom Program used: AutoCAD Time Frame: 4 Weeks Semester: Second Semester Course: Residential Construction Documents

The Morgan Residence washroom was a small residential renovation assignment that tested our understanding of millwork and finishes, as well as organization and presentation of a construction drawing package. This set of drawings includes a new floor plan, finish plan, elevations, section and detail, and schedules.

Prairie Architecture Program used: Revit Time Frame: 6 Weeks Semester: Third Semester Course: Commercial Construction Docs

The Prairie Architecture Project aimed to guide us through creating a set of documents needed to communicate the renovation an architectural firm. Through it, I demonstrated my ability to use appropriate dimensions, tags, legends, and schedules. Furthermore, I learned to create details that communicate the construction of new wall and ceilings to be built.

Newport Community Centre Program used: Revit Time Frame: 6 Weeks Semester: Fourth Semester Course: Design Applications within Construction Documents

The Newport Community Centre project was originally a team design project allowing us to cohesively design the furniture, ceiling and flooring of a community centre. We then individually designed our own reception desk and ceiling feature, feature wall, built-in bench, and storage/art display. In this portion of the project, we transitioned our individual designs into a series of construction documents, with the only assistance being our instructor answering broad questions and giving general tips. Through this project I strengthened my comprehension of different ceiling and millwork constructions and learned to choose suitable material transitions.

RENDERINGS

The Red Lion Program used: Sketchup Time Frame: 6 Weeks Semester: Second Semester Course: 3D Modelling Applications

The Red Lion assignment involved us creating a 3D model in Sketchup based off an AutoCAD plan and elevations. We designed our own exterior and interior scenes and rendered them using Irender. To finish off the project, we created a Web Standalone Model as well as an interior Panorama View that can be viewed by scanning a QR code. I really enjoyed the process of creating lively scenes to enhance the appeal of the building views. I experimented with various camera angles, entourage placements, and lighting settings in order to create realistic looking renderings.

ILLUSTRATOR The Square Café This Illustrator Assignment in the third semester required us to create a poster with provided renderings, logo, and text. It was not required, but we were encouraged to enhance the provided renderings in Photoshop before adding them to the poster.
