Gold has been used by humans for thousands of years, making it one of the oldest and most precious commodities in existence. Its high ductility, high corrosion resistance, and high aesthetic value make it highly desirable.

Gold is typically condensed by the action of hot fluids located deep within the Earth's crust. Gold can be dissolved by these fluids when they permeate a wide area of rock.

Gold is typically discovered in waterways (such as rivers, creeks, and streams) that have passed through geological structures. Pieces of gold may be carried down the path by these streams, provided the current is powerful enough to pull them from the formations.

Streams are home to a wide variety of plant and animal life. These animals range from birds and fish to salamanders and invertebrates.

To remain stationary while they filter the water for food, some of these creatures have streamlined bodies. Some can withstand strong currents because of their rounded form.

Sediments in streams frequently lack proper sorting and can be any size, from fines to cobbles. Concentrations are typically found in riffle-like areas or in places where the stream gradient has been reduced due to the presence of big boulders or other obstructions, which, as described by Charles Reed Cagle, makes it challenging to nudge gold out.

Cell phones, computer chips and circuit boards, radios, TVs, and game systems are just some of the many electronic devices that use gold. It's added in trace quantities to help with electricity and keep things from rusting.

Wire bonding, the method used to create electrical links on a semiconductor chip, also uses it. Due to their high reliability and rapid manufacturing rate, gold wires are a popular option for this purpose.

Gold is also frequently used as a soldering agent and contact metal in electronics, which is particularly crucial when working with solid-state devices that draw minimal currents through minimal connections. Gold is preferable to copper and silver for these uses because it is more conductive, avoids corrosion, and maintains its luster over time.
