PATHWAYS EVERYONE IS UNIQUE. THAT’S WHY THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO GET A PLACE AT CSU. We look beyond your ATAR, and recognise the unique attributes you can bring to our university. It’s not always about exam results – at CSU it’s also about who you are, what you want to achieve and your passion to make it happen.
ACCESS SCHEMES We take into account any difficulties that might have affected your studies – such as finances, illness or legal issues – and can adjust your selection rank accordingly. If you are a sportsperson and your sporting commitments have affected your preparation for uni, you can apply for special consideration through the Elite Athlete Program.
EARLY OFFER You could receive an offer for a CSU course before you’ve received your ATAR. We recognise your passion and potential and will consider your academic achievements from Year 11 and your school’s recommendation.

STUDY STUDY SHOULD WORK FOR YOU, WHATEVER YOUR LIFESTYLE. THAT’S WHY MOST OF OUR COURSES ARE AVAILABLE FOR ONLINE STUDY, PUTTING CONVENIENCE AT THE HEART OF YOUR LEARNING EXPERIENCE. CSU has been providing distance and online education for more than 50 years, and our innovative technology allows you to access expert tuition around your work and family commitments.
HOW IT WORKS Lectures can be viewed live online (and most are also recorded so you can watch them later). You discuss ideas with academics and fellow students in live online tutorials (these can be recorded as well). Dedicated subject forums allow you to communicate with your fellow students, while digital resources are just a click away. On average you can expect to study for around 10–12 hours a week working on each subject you take.
The details of your residential school will vary depending on the subjects you take in your degree.
RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS
However, your residential school will include some or all of the following.
Some of our online courses include residential schools. These short, intensive learning sessions are held on campus and give you the opportunity to:
• Exam preparation workshop.
• practise hands-on study techniques
• Laboratory session.
• use CSU’s learning facilities
• Library/research workshop.
• get personalised teaching
• Simulation practical.
• socialise with your fellow students.
• Social events with students and academics.
You can take advantage of affordable on-campus accommodation, and enjoy the recreation and dining options. We also have grants available to help pay for the costs of attending a residential school. p12

STUDY AN EXCEPTIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE… AND SO MUCH MORE. HOW IT WORKS
GET CONNECTED
When you study on campus you are just steps away from everything you need to get the most from your course: lecture halls, tutorial rooms, facilities, the library, study groups and study support.
You’ll also have access to CSU’s digital learning environments and online resources (via free wi-fi across the campus). And by studying on campus you are also close to local organisations so you can build your professional network.
You will attend lectures and tutorials throughout the week, as well as undertake independent research and reading, write assignments and prepare for exams. You can expect to spend between 10 and 12 hours a week working on each subject you take.
GET INVOLVED Campus life also gives you many ways to broaden your experience and enhance your CV. You can volunteer in the local community, become a residential adviser, help out at events, organise eco-initiatives with CSU Green, or run a study group to share ideas with your classmates.
STUDYING ON CAMPUS WAS A CONSCIOUS DECISION, TO MAKE FRIENDS AND SETTLE IN, AND I FOUND IT VERY CONVENIENT AND EASY. I served on the board of my accommodation’s association and as a residential tutor. And with the other tutors, I fundraised for a local not-for-profit organisation. EXERCISE AND SPORTS SCIENCES Health, fitness, exercise and sport are some of the fastest-growing industries globally – and CSU’s courses put you at their forefront. Whether you want a career helping individuals and communities improve their health and wellbeing, training and managing professional athletes, or reporting on the biggest events in the world of sport, our courses will set you up for success. FEES AND HELP Your course fees will depend on the number of subjects you enrol in and the course you are studying. For domestic students, fees per 8-point subject typically range from around $800 to $1300, depending on your course. Fees for international students differ. If you are an Australian citizen or a New Zealand Special Category Visa holder, you will likely be given a Commonwealth-supported place, and benefit from the HECS-HELP scheme.
HOW IT WORKS 1. When you enrol, you indicate that you want to pay all or part of your fees via HECS-HELP (you will need a tax file number, which is easy to get). 2. The government pays your fees and registers them against your tax file number. 3. You pay the balance back through deductions in your pay when you start working – once you earn above a certain amount. In 2018 the threshold is $55,874.
OTHER FEES AND COSTS All students at CSU also pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) that funds support, social and sports programs. In 2017, the SSAF was $36 per 8-point subject. Eligible students can defer this payment through the government’s SA-HELP scheme. For details of government schemes, visit studyassist.gov.au
DID YOU KNOW? CSU HAS A FINANCIAL SUPPORT TEAM THAT CAN HELP YOU WITH BUDGETING, PLANNING AND APPLYING FOR LOANS, AND PROGRAMS TO HELP YOU FIND A PART-TIME JOB IF YOU WANT ONE.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A... PARAMEDICINE STUDENT Marissa Leo
7AM: MY ALARM CLOCK TELLS ME THAT IT’S TIME TO GET AMONGST THE DAY. I have exactly one hour to pump my cappuccino while reading through some journal articles that I’m reviewing for my research assessment. 8AM: THE TOPIC FOR TODAY’S FIRST CLASS IS DROWNING AND HYPOTHERMIA. These topics are a part of my trauma subject and are really interesting because of the pathophysiology behind each condition. 11AM: The lecture ends and by now my only priority is food. I have a terrible habit of skipping breakfast, so by this point I am potentially the patient if I don’t eat something! I have a two-hour break until my next class so I FIND A STUDY AREA WHERE I CAN MAKE SOME PROGRESS ON MY RESEARCH ASSESSMENT. 1PM: Two hours flies by and it’s time for my Advanced Cardiology tutorial. THIS IS AN INTERACTIVE TWO-HOUR CLASS SO YOU HAVE TO BE READY TO PARTICIPATE. Today our tutor presents a number of different scenarios with the aim of making us think of all the possible causes based on limited p64
patient information, then narrowing it down to just one with the inclusion of electrocardiogram (ECG) presentations. 3PM: My final class for the day is another two-hour Advanced Cardiology lesson; however, this time it’s a practical class. We’re spoilt here at CSU in Port Macquarie. We get to work with the latest equipment you’d see in Australian ambulances, PRACTISE SCENARIOS IN ENVIRONMENTS THAT MIMIC REALWORLD SETTINGS, and have access to the latest technology to help simulate these classes. My patient today is an 88-year-old female stating she feels “unwell”. Very helpful! You’ll be pleased to know that after a thorough assessment, we discovered the underlying cause of her discomfort and treated her appropriately. 6PM: My day’s still not over. I have two hours of soccer training, dinner to eat, and then a research assessment to finish and submit. Despite all the stress of being busy, TODAY I LEARNT SOMETHING NEW, SAVED MY PATIENT’S LIFE and managed to squeeze in some laughs with my friends. All in all, just another day in the life of a paramedicine student.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A... TELEVISION PRODUCTION STUDENT Dougal Mordike
7AM: RISE AND SHINE! It’s time to get up! Yeah… just five more minutes – I’m not a morning person. 8:30AM: I MEET UP WITH A COUPLE OF MY FELLOW TV PRODUCTION STUDENTS (WE CALL OURSELVES ‘PRODDIES’) TO WALK TO OUR FIRST CLASS. We drop into The Hub (a café at CSU) on the way to TV Land for coffee. TV Land is a group of buildings on the Wagga Wagga campus equipped with a TV studio, a warehouse (full of costumes, props and set items), an acting studio, workshop spaces, a sound studio, edit suites and other classrooms. 9AM: The TV studio is in full-swing. We’re currently producing a television series, one episode a week for five weeks. For each episode, proddies are assigned a different crew role. THIS WEEK I’M THE DIRECTOR’S ASSISTANT. My role is to ensure smooth running of the show once it begins. This means timing segments, counting down, standing-by cameras and giving cues. Basically making sure everyone is on the same page.
p66
10AM: The talent (actors) have just arrived. NOW IT REALLY BEGINS. “FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE. STANDBY CAMERA 2.” I start my stopwatch, and away we go! We occasionally pause to iron out a few shots or to practise set changes, and eventually we get one full run-through. We make notes on what needs to be prepared before this week’s episode goes live on Friday, do a couple more rehearsals, and then call it a day.
3PM: Class finished early, which is fantastic for a few of us as we’re now off to a location shoot. WE’RE FILMING ONE OF 14 SHORT FILMS WE’RE MAKING FOR ONE OF OUR ASSESSMENTS THIS SESSION.
12PM: It’s our lunch break, and it couldn’t have come sooner. Most of us head to The Crow Bar for a feed (and another coffee). CLASSIC CHICKEN SCHNITZEL TODAY, WHAT ELSE?
6PM: Back in my cottage, I cook a quick dinner of spaghetti bolognaise. After enjoying a short break, it’s back to the books. FOR MY ELECTIVE I CHOSE TO DO ADVERTISING. I use the extra time I gained from finishing the shoot early to continue my work on this week’s module, which is all about digital and interactive media.
1PM: WE’RE BACK IN TV LAND, BUT THIS TIME FOR A LECTURE. Our lectures tend to be discussion based (probably more like a workshop if anything), and we go over the last rehearsal we did that day to see if there was anything we missed.
5:30PM: STRIKE AND WRAP! As I’m the editor for this shoot, it’s now up to me to ensure I have all the footage and audio that was recorded, saved and backed up, ready to use in the future.
8:30PM: It’s been a busy day, so it’s time to relax and have some fun. IT’S UNI NIGHT IN WAGGA WAGGA, AND THE CROW BAR IS STARTING TO WARM UP!
