REBECCA CROFT STUDIOS FINE ART
AS someone who has always been creative, Rebecca Croft might always have been fated to become an artist—but she didn’t find her way to becoming a fulltime painter until retiring from a 30-year career in event planning. Her love affair with a paintbrush, however, began long ago. “I’ve been painting for about 25 years and started taking classes when my kids were in school,” says Croft, who considers her time as an event planner, as well as her undergraduate degree in international business and master’s in business administration, to have prepared her well for the task of marketing and selling her art. “I started showing my work and selling it about five years after I started painting.”
The Daniel Island resident loves to paint landscapes— especially the marshes of the Lowcountry—but also those seen in her travels. “I’ve painted a lot of European landscapes and city scenes after visiting there,” says Croft, who grew up as an Army brat and spent 28 years in Arlington, Virginia, while she and her husband raised their children. “I’ve lived all over the United States as well as Europe, so I have a love of travel. Going to new places and seeing new cultures always inspires me. I also love to paint en plein air when I can. Really, I can paint anything—but I always gravitate back to the landscape. Maybe it’s because I love the outdoors so much.”
