It is a tradition in Chinese culture to respect the old and to value filial piety, yet this is challenged by a tremendous migration from villages to cities. Families are stretched spatially: the elderly stay in resourceless hometown while their children work in tensed cities. Thus, commonly the old switch across cities to help take care of babies or be taken care of by offspring, through which they lose the sense of home, however. Due to the support from the government, families can enjoy low tax for developing solar power. Though it requires a higher cost, families can charge fee from tourists who require room for resting and people nearby who consume electricity produced by solar panels. THE LOST LAND 03
RENOVATION OF THE CHUNGKING MANSION IN HONG KONG
The city is developing non-stop, old buildings are deconstructed and replaced by high-rise blocks. However, the lifestyle in and regular as the city space is too dense which leads to a lack of public space. There is a lose of vitality in the city, but in the lifestyle is still fascinating. Though it is disordered, dirty and confused, we can find anything that we want in it. Though the people in it are interacting all the time. Chungking Mansion is the lost land in Hong Kong. As the days have passed, Chungking Mansion is getting older. I would like to undertake renovation of it. The renovation s upgrade the space and facilities in it, but also to raise public awareness of the importance of vitality in Hong Kong. 25
n HK become boring Chungking Mansion, e space in it is dense,
scheme is not only to 26
THE LOST LAND RENOVATION OF THE CHUNGKING MANSION IN HONG KONG In the Lost Land, the space will be still dense and small, the richness of spaces is maintained. Moreover, there will be a blur between interior and exterior space in order to allow interaction between the Lost Land and the buildings surrounding. Also, the green area is the essential element in the Lost Land. Mainly, there are four components which compose the Lost Land, they are elevation, rooftop garden, super atrium, and rich spaces.
AD PEKING RO
Elevation
The elevation of the Lost Land is remaining the same scale and order with the buildings surrounding in order to maintain the organic order of the city. Also, it is used to hide the richness inside the building, you can only find amazement when you get into the Lost Land. Moreover, some small sky gardens are created on elevation in order to allow interaction between the Lost Land and the city.
Rooftop Garden
The rooftop garden is an enjoyable space. Everyone in Hong Kong hope to live with a rooftop garden which allows us to get closer to the sky. Due to the density of skyscrapers in Hong Kong, people can seldom see the blue sky. Hence, a life with rooftop garden is really important. Moreover, the rooftop garden in Lost Land can also become a platform to connect with the rooftop of buildings surrounding.
Super Atrium
When people access into the Lost Land, we will finally arrive a spiritual space, the Super Atrium. It is a 55m tall atrium with a perfect circular pond on the ground floor. It is elaborated from the original atrium which is a traditional space in Hong Kong residential buildings. At the Super Atrium, you will feel free and comfortable. The waterfalls are pouring down from the rooftop down to the circular pond, bushes and greenwalls are planted on every sky garden, it is a good place to take a rest and think. You will never be influenced by the outer world when you are in the Super Atrium, but only the sky and the pond.
Rich Spaces
The spaces in the Lost Land is small, but rich. It contains, residentials, restaurants, museums, libraries, gyms...etc. They are welcome to everyone, no matter how old you are, what sex you are, where you are from. And in the Lost Land, you will find out the things you have lost.
