Christmas is a deeply religious holiday in Spain and the season officially begins on December 8th with the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

There are many Christmas markets scattered among villages and cities with piles of fruit, flowers, marzipan, candles, decorations and hand-made Christmas gifts. Christmas Eve is known as Nochebuena or The Good Night. As the stars come out tiny oil lamps are lit in every house and family members gather together to rejoice and feast around the Nativity scenes that are present in nearly every home. Most families eat their main Christmas meal on Christmas Eve before going to Midnight Mass. Christmas day people go to church and children have some presents although most are opened on January 6th at Epiphany. December 28th is Dia de los santos Inocentes or Day of the Innocent Saints and is very like April Fools Day in the UK. People try to trick each other into believing silly stories and jokes.

New Year’s Eve is called NocheVieja or The Old Night and one special tradition is that you eat 12 grapes with the 12 strokes of the clock at midnight. Each grape represents a month of good luck for the coming year, so if you eat all 12 you are said to be lucky in the new year. In Spain it isn’t Santa who comes bearing gifts but the Three Wise Men. On the Eve of Epiphany, January 5th, children place their shoes on the doorstep or windowsills filled with grass or grain for the kings’ camels. Sometimes a bucket of water is left for the camels that bring the Kings. Gifts are often left by children for the Kings, a glass of Cognac for each King, a satsuma and some walnuts. During the night the Three Kings, known as Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar leave gifts in and around the shoes. If the children have been bad, the Kings might leave pieces of coal made out of sugar in the presents. January 6th is heralded with Epiphany Parades in various cities, with each King having a big float that is shaped like a camel. Sometimes there are also real camels in the parade. Candy and cakes are distributed to thousands of children lining the streets. A special cake called “Roscon”, meaning ring shape roll, is eaten at Epiphany. Roscon can be filled with cream or chocolate and contain a little gift.

Enrique Iglesias is the Spanish-American pop music singer. Iglesias started his musical career on Mexican label Fonovisa which helped turn him into one of the most popular artists in Latin America and in the Hispanic American market in the United States, and the biggest seller of Spanish language albums of the 1990s. Before the turn of the millennium, he made a crossover into the mainstream English language market. Iglesias was born in Madrid, Spain, and is the third and youngest child of singer Julio Iglesias. In 1985, Iglesias' grandfather, Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga was kidnapped by the terrorist group ETA. For their safety, Enrique and his brother, Julio Iglesias Jr, were sent to live with their father in Miami. As his father's career kept him on the road, the young Iglesias was raised by the family nanny. Iglesias did not want his father to know about his plans for a musical career and did not want his famous surname to help advance his career. He borrowed money from his family nanny and he recorded a demo cassette tape which consisted of a Spanish song and two English songs. Approaching his father's former publicist, Fernan Martinez, the two promoted the songs under the stage name 'Enrique Martinez' with the story of being an unknown singer from Guatemala. Iglesias has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling Latin artists of all time.

Iglesias has had five Billboard Hot 100 top five singles, including two no1s, and holds the record for producing 22 number 1 Spanish-language singles on the Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks He has also had nine no1 songs on Billboard's Dance charts, more than any other single male artist. Altogether, Iglesias has amassed 53 no1 hits on the various Billboard charts. He has honorably been named as The King of Latin Pop and The King of Dance according to Billboard. Iglesias also developed an interest in acting, starring alongside Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Johnny Depp in the film Once Upon a Time in Mexico, in which he played the foul-mouthed gun-wielding Lorenzo. Iglesias also played the part of an evil Roman emperor in an ambitious TV commercial for Pepsi, which sponsored his last world tour. He starred alongside Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink, who turn the tables on him in the commercial. He's also starred in commercials for Doritos and for Viceroy Watches.

Richard Alexander has worked in financial services for 36 years and provides specialist financial planning services to expat and UK clients with accumulated capital who prefer the personal touch of a dedicated and trusted financial adviser. Richard aims to build long term client relationships by understanding their aspirations, to appreciate their concerns, sensitivities and risk tolerances and to provide a bespoke solution designed to achieve their goals. At the core of financial planning is recognition of the main objectives, which can often be expressed as a need for growth or income. Even when the objective is simply wealth preservation, a focus on growth will be needed to offset the effects of inflation. For people moving or retiring abroad, currency risk is a further consideration. Pension income may arise in the currency of the country of origin and fluctuations in exchange rates will affect the level of income. However, some private pensions can be transferred into a new plan held in the appropriate currency which will remove future currency risk. Inheritance Tax may be a major consideration; Inheritance Tax in the UK is calculated by reference to the Estate of the deceased person whereas in Spain, it is calculated by reference to the beneficiaries, with the rates of tax varying, depending on who the beneficiaries are and their relationship to the deceased. Tax may also be due in both countries but there is a dual tax treaty which should ensure that double taxation can normally be avoided. Earlier UK planning may have involved the use of Trusts in the UK or offshore. If this is the case, you need to be aware that Spain does not recognise the status of Trusts and if you are the Settlor of a Trust who has become Spanish tax resident, the local tax authorities are likely to ignore the Trust and treat the assets and income or gains arising as your personal income or gains and seek to tax you accordingly. Clients of RAFP benefit from our relationship with local tax specialists in each country and can be confident that their investments will be appropriate to their individual tax position and future plans.

The Costa del Sol or literally “Coast of the Sun” is in the South of Spain. It stretches along 150km of Malaga province and is one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations. The area was developed for tourism during the 1950’s. Its main attraction is its mild climate allowing visitors to enjoy outdoor activities and alfresco dining all year round, as well as its beautiful beaches. During the 1970’s and 80’s the region earned the unfortunate nickname of the “Costa del Crime” because of the number of British gangsters who left home to escape legal trouble. However, now places such as Marbella and nearby Puerto Banus are important tourist resorts with Marbella known as the playground for the rich and famous. It is a major destination for luxury cruise ships and yachts, which dock in its harbour. Millions of visitors arrive every year via Malaga International airport to the Costa del Sol. As well as the beaches, nightlife and fabulous food there are many other activities to enjoy including horse riding, hiking, caving and of course golf. There are over 50 golf courses in the area including Alhaurin El Grand with an 18-hole course designed by Serveriano Ballasteros where the practice facilities are probably the best on the Costa del Sol.

Places to visit include Benalmadena Costa where the Marina with its Indian and Arabic architecture makes it the most astonishing port and residential complex in Europe. It has twice been awarded as the Best Marina in the World. Alongside the marina you will find the SeaLife aquarium with dolphins, seals and penguins. Other attractions in Benalmadena include Tivoli World with over 300 rides and attractions set amongst tropical gardens and fountains. There are restaurants and an outdoor theatre where you can see some of the best Flamenco shows. Paloma Park is situated right in the centre of Benalmadena Costa and stretches over 200,000 square metres with a lake, various themed gardens, numerous walkways, a large children’s playground and animals including rabbits, peacocks, ostriches which are very tame and used to all the visitors. If you love butterflies then Butterfly Park, Benalmadena has 2,000 butterflies from over 150 different species to view in their natural habitat inside the glass walled tropical gardens. If you are looking for something less tame then take a trip to Torremolinos to visit Crocodile Park which opened in 1988 and is home to 300 crocodiles. You can see other animals including Bengal tigers and the Parrot Show on Treasure Island, eat at the restaurant or the children can play in the playground. The area of La Nogalera, Torremolinos, due to its cosmopolitan atmosphere is regarded as the gay friendly centre of tourism.

If you want a panoramic view of the entire Nerja coast then visit the famous Balcon de Europa, which was built where there was once a fortress destroyed in 1812 during the War of Independence. A few kilometres from the town of Nerja are the Caves of Nerja with impressive stalactites and stalagmites, which can be admired, in their subterranean scene. Only one third of the halls are open for tourists and you should allow 45 minutes for a visit. In Fuengirola you will find the Bioparc, a very different kind of zoo. It allows visitors to watch the animals in their natural environment and during the summer months of July and August is open until midnight. Also in Fuengirola is Sohail Castle with its powerful square towers. It has been destroyed and rebuilt several times after its long turbulent history and is now used as an open-air auditorium. Malaga, known as the capital of the Costa del Sol, is one of the oldest cities in the world dating back some 2,800 years to the Phoenicians. It is the birthplace of the painter Pablo Picasso and actor Antonio Banderas. If you want a beautiful panoramic view of the city then take a walk up to Gibralfaro Castle. Nearby is the Roman Theatre, which was rediscovered in 1951, the old Jewish quarter, the Cathedral and the Church of Santiago. There are many modern shopping centres with top fashion names, restaurants and bars. Some centres include multiplex cinema screens and bowling allies. Malaga offers a varied and vibrant nightlife for party animals or alternatively quiet bars for the more laid back.

Alaska probably wouldn't top many people's list of where to go on holiday. Images of glaciers and snow spring to mind. But this is a fascinating, beautiful US state which has much to offer the enterprising and adventurous tourist. More than twice the size of Texas, Alaska is the largest state in the USA, a land of vast natural splendour, abundant wildlife and few people. It has 34,000 miles of tidal shoreline and offers unique experiences such as walking in unspoilt wilderness, spectacular cruising through the fjords of the Inside Passage, frontier towns rich in gold rush history, glaciers and even moose wandering the streets of downtown Anchorage. You can see whales gliding through the ocean and feeding near the shore as bald eagles soar overhead. Look out for seals relaxing on sparkling glaciers hundreds of years old. Alaska's sense of undiscovered wilderness and promise of adventure is still as strong today as it was in the past and, having attracted thousands of pioneers in search of gold, fur, fishing, logging and oil, this last frontier today lures travellers in search of an unspoilt beauty and close encounters with nature.

To enjoy Alaskan cuisine one must love fish. Salmon, halibut and trout feature heavily on most menus. The delicious caribou stew is another favourite. Alaskan delicacies include smoked salmon, wild berry products and reindeer sausage. The legal drinking age is 21 but Alaska has several "dry" villages where any possession of alcohol is illegal . Unique Alaskan products and crafts include gold nugget jewellery, items carved from ivory and jade, handmade clothing and toys, items made from skin, fur or bone and woven baskets of beach grass, bark and baleen. Native sea-oil candles, beaded mittens, fur mukluks and miniature hand-carved totem poles are also popular souvenirs. The Made in Alaska logo indicates that an item has been genuinely manufactured in Alaska, and a silver hand logo identifies native Alaskan handicrafts. Alaska offers some of the most spectacular fishing in the world. Rivers, lakes and streams throughout the state provide a chance to hook trout - rainbow, cutthroat and steelhead - as well as other, more challenging game fish, including arctic grayling and shellfish.

Skiing is another popular option. But the official sport of Alaska is actually dog mushing. Visitors can take a team of spirited huskies on a sled-dog tour or watch the experts at work in one of the many annual sled-dog races. Alaska's largest city, Anchorage, is both a popular tourist destination and the centre of commerce for the region. There's plenty to do here with something for all ages. Local wildlife museums include the Alaska Zoo and Potter's Marsh, where up to 130 species of waterfowl can be viewed from a boardwalk. Geographical reminders of the 1964 Good Friday earthquake can be seen at Earthquake Park . To appreciate the wealth of local history, you can visit the Heritage Library and Museum and the Anchorage Museum of History and Art. A short trip north of town leads to the Eagle River Visitor Centre and the alpine beauty of Chugach State Park. At Eklutna Village Historical Park, highlights include St Nicholas Russian Church and the brightly painted "spirit houses". South of Anchorage, visitors can make like the Klondike gold-rushers and try their luck by panning for gold nuggets at Crow Creek Mine. The most popular excursion is to Columbia Glacier, which can be reached by day cruises, charter boat, flight-seeing tours and the state ferry. It's a must for photographers.

The wait is almost over as the new ski season approaches. The Austrian Tirol region has already seen some snow and the glacier ski resorts on the Stubai and Pitztal opened at the weekend, with Kaunertal and Salden opening in October. And this winter will see the opening of the Ski Jewel, connecting the Alpbach and Wildschanau valleys, new hotels in St Anton, East Tirol and Kappl, as well as investment in infrastructure and new direct flights from Manchester to Innsbruck. The opening of the Ski Jewel is the conclusion of 11 years' work to bring together the Alpbach and Wildschanau valleys, already well respected ski areas in their own right. The Jewel will offer 145 km of pistes served by 47 lifts and, in conjunction with the existing Poeglbahn cable car from Inneralpbach, the new eight-person cable car to the Schatzberg, will see the region enter into the top ten of Tirolean ski centres. The new Wildspitze cable car replaces Austria's highest ski lift, the Pitz Panorama gondola, to take skiers and boarders more than two km in under six minutes to an altitude of 3340m to the Hinterer Brunnenkogel. At the top station is Austria's highest cafe, with breathtaking views of the Wildspitze at 3774m, the country's second highest mountain and more than 50 surrounding Pitztal mountains over 3000m. The skiing area of Osttirol is less well-known to Brits and as an exclave of Tirol, shares no border with the main state. Home to the Hohe Tauern National Park with the largest ski area being the Groayglockner Resort Kals-Matrei with 110km of pistes, the region this winter welcomes the opening of a new resort, the four-star Gradonna Mountain Resort.

Situated in an enviable position at the bottom of the slopes, the complex offers superb views of the Groayglockner, Austria's highest mountain. Opening in December, the hotel brings together contemporary design with tradition - bedrooms are made of Zirben, a stone pine renowned for its therapeutic properties which should ensure guests get a good night's sleep ready to hit the slopes in the morning! Kappl is situated along the Paznaun valley and is located just before more famous big brother, Ischgl. The resort steps up a gear this season with the opening of the Zhero Fashion Hotel, offering 60 luxurious rooms, nine suites and five penthouse suites as well as a large spa, beauty and fitness centre. St Anton am Arlberg led the way last season with the opening of new hotels and this winter sees the addition of the four-star Anthony's Life & Style Hotel to the list of luxurious options on offer. Meanwhile, Inghams has a stylish new mountain lodge complex and specialist ski company VIP SKI has added St Anton for winter 2012-13 for the first time. Ski Club Freshtracks has introduced an Austrian Off Piste Weekend in one of the best-kept secrets of the Tirol, Fieberbrunn which is famed for hosting the Swatch Freeride World Tour in and boasts some of the best snow records in the Kitzbuheler Alps. And Neilson is launching a range of Snow Skills freestyle courses for adults and teenagers at the Vans Penken Snow Park in Mayrhofen, which was last year voted the best park in Europe. Crystal Ski offers free lift pass for children up to 15 in all resorts of the Ski Welt (Sall, Ellmau, Scheffau, Westendorf and Hopfgarten) and a new flight from Liverpool to Salzburg for resorts in the east of Tirol. Last but not least, Monarch Airlines has announced several new winter routes, direct from Manchester to Innsbruck three times a week from December 13. The airline will also fly to Munich from Leeds-Bradford and Birmingham, serving the entire Tirol region, while a new service from Birmingham to Friedrichshafen allows convenient access to the resorts in the west, including the Arlberg region and the Ischgl- Paznaun valley.

Most men and women with ageing faces would like to do something to turn the clock back a few years. Filling the gap between invasive cosmetic surgeries and over-the-counter beauty products is a range of non-invasive cosmetic surgeries that are easier on the pocket and far less painful. Non-invasive cosmetic surgery is taking off fast thanks to the wide availability of well-known treatments such as Botox and cosmetic dermal fillers. But a word of caution: before you take the plunge, remember that non-invasive cosmetic treatments still need careful consideration and should always be carried out by trained professionals. If you have considered the matter carefully, and preferably talked it over with your GP, here are a few non-invasive treatments that are targeted at the facial area: Restylane (www.restylane.com) is an injectable gel that is administered by trained, medically qualified practitioners. It is designed to work by enhancing the skin's stocks of hyaluronic acid, directly adding volume to either soften the signs of ageing or enhance features. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes and the benefits can be seen immediately. Restylane is long lasting, but not permanent. The hyaluronic acid gel of Restylane closely resembles natural hyaluronic acid, helping to reduce the risk of an inflammatory reaction or other side effects.

The most popular treatment is Restylane Lipp, which is used to fill out wrinkles and folds or to sculpt lips. The product is naturally degradable and it is estimated that it lasts six to 12 months before a new treatment is necessary. It is formulated to work in harmony with the natural anatomy of the lip. Anti-wrinkle light refinement is the latest treatment. It uses formulated ampoules, infra-red and blue light and bio-resonance waves to aid relaxation, stimulate skin and encourage cell regeneration. The treatment, which costs from â‚Ź80-â‚Ź100 per session, claims to produce long-term improvements to wrinkles and fine lines without any of the side-effects associated with older-style lasers, such as scarring, reddening and sunlight sensitivity. Tear Trough Rejuvenation by Raman Malhotra www.ramanmalhotra.com) uses hyaluronic acid products to help reduce the appearance of bags and dark circles under the eyes. In the lower eyelid and cheek area, loss of volume accentuates the bony orbital rim between the lower eyelid and the cheek. This leads to the pronounced appearance of natural fat pockets and accentuation of "tear trough" shadows. The treatment helps reduce dark circles by creating a smooth lower eyelid contour and reducing shadowing. It lasts between six and 12 months.

Women spend a great deal of time deciding what to wear on a day-to-day basis, taking into account what suits them and what is "so last year". Most men, on the other hand, tend throw any old thing on. You don't have to be a metrosexual to look good, but it helps. Men love science, right? So, know that there is scientific evidence to support the idea that what you wear really does make a difference in your world. Behavioural scientists warn that a first impression is a strong one. Someone's evaluation of you takes 30 seconds or less, and can be so strong that it could take as long as five years to erase. Clothing plays a huge role in the first impression, especially at job interviews or meeting the in-laws or meeting a potential mate. Think of clothes like your peacock feathers. Learning how to appropriately display your feathers could make sure that your first impression lasts, in a positive way. You will never get a second chance. Patterns, like stripes, create optical illusions. While vertical stripes draw the eyes up and down helping to establish a thinner body, wide horizontal stripes make the eye move left to right, creating a broadening effect. That's a nice way of saying you could look as wide as a bus. Heavier fabrics give the impression of a heavier body. Culprits include tweed, wool suits and bulky jumpers. Light to medium weight fabrics, such as cotton, twill and linen, visually remove pounds. Green, blue, and violet are associated with water, sky and foliage. They are calming, unassuming colours and they appear to recede. This is handy knowledge if you want to appear less heavy, dominant or aggressive. Red, orange, and yellow are associated with fire and the sun. They psychologically suggest emotion, energy and warmth while optically appearing larger. That's something to remember if you want to slim down rather than beef up. Colours may also influence the behaviour and moods of those you are trying to impress, both positively and negatively. Colours create feelings and emotions, which is why you would never wear a sunny yellow shirt to a funeral, opting instead for solemn tones. The simple act of choosing the colour of a tie could speak volumes about you.

Here are some of the moods and emotions associated with colours: RED: Not for the shy and retiring type. Dominance, power, attention, sexual energy, determination, passion, persistence, excitement and strength.

PINK: Yes, men can wear pink too! Upbeat, good health, calming, friendly, compassionate and faithful. ORANGE: Very "now". Happy, courageous, successful, enthusiastic, bold, adventuresome, friendly, warm, informal and welcoming. BROWN: Salt of the earth type. Informal, reliable, approachable, relaxed, stable, and earthy. YELLOW: A positive colour. Alert, optimistic, stimulating, enthusiastic, playful, cheerful, communicative, expressive and intelligent. GREEN: Lucky for some. Relaxing, compassionate, prosperous, prestigious, growth, vitality, harmony and efficiency. TURQUOISE: Like a dip in the ocean. Refreshing, cool, imaginative, innovative and youthful. BLUE: For the blue-bloodied type. Knowledgeable, trustworthy, serious, responsible, social stature, caring, good health, tranquil, intuitive, calm, honest, loyal and showing integrity. LIGHT BLUE: Perfect for romance. Peaceful, sincere and affectionate. PURPLE: The prince of colours. Spiritual, passionate, visionary, regal, respected, dignified and luxurious. LAVENDER: For sexy nights in. Romantic, imaginative and associated with fantasy. BLACK: Not just for funerals. Elegance, authority, dignity, sophistication, seductiveness and mystery. GREY: Perfect for job interviews. Brainy, classy, efficient, sophisticated and confident. WHITE: The colour of angels. Virtue, cleanliness and status.

Most people will have heard of Malta, but not many will have heard of Gozo, its smaller and much more rural sister island. This lesser known, greener island is perfect for walking and cycling while those who enjoy swimming, diving, yachting, windsurfing and motor sports will find facilities within an arm's reach. Occupying less than 100 square kilometres of the Med, Gozo is fast becoming a favourite with property buyers looking for an idyllic island retreat. As a result the property rental market on Gozo is strong, as the island is a magnet for both the Maltese and overseas visitors alike. Tourism in both Malta and Gozo has also seen strong growth in the last four to five years from across Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East and even the US, driven by a new network of low cost air flights. Those looking for a beach front property might be interested to know that off-plan developments exist, such as one at the popular seaside resort of Marshalforn. With most properties enjoying sea views, 107,000 euros for a two bed apartment represents excellent value - although you will have to pay the finishing costs. A number of very select apartment developments are also taking place on Gozo. Stunning views are the major feature of a unique development at the historic Fort Chambray, which overlooks the main harbour that links Gozo with Malta. The Fort provides an amazing backdrop and is over 300 years old. Prices here start from 315,000 euros for a two bed ground floor maisonette with pool. Those looking for greener surroundings might prefer Hal Saghtrija, which is set in more than three acres of land, mostly consisting of landscaped gardens and cultivated fields. Apartment owners can enjoy the fresh produce from the fields which are also part of the property. Prices for these properties start from 276,000 euros for a three bed apartment. For a picturesque sea view, Tal General in San Lawrenz has apartments that all face south and have beautiful views in one of the best shore locations on Gozo.

Prices start from 220,000 euros for a three bedroom apartment, but again finishing touches will not be included. For those looking for something out of the ordinary, there are currently a number of converted farmhouses and houses of character with pools for around 350 - 400,000 Euros. These represent excellent value for those looking for traditional character in a modern setting. Ray Woods from www.maltabuyproperty.co.uk says that Gozo remains an undiscovered haven for many potential investors and those looking for a retirement or holiday home. The proximity of Malta and Gozo to Italy and the North African Coast and mainland Europe makes them an ideal base. Sicily and Mount Etna are only 90 minutes away by high speed ferry. Cruise liners are a familiar sight in Valetta, Malta's capital - as are the super yachts of the rich and famous. The exponential growth in flights has helped to increase demand for good quality property for rental purposes and those looking for a top drawer flop pad with marina access.

Studies estimate that up to 400,000 overseas properties are now owned by the British. The total value of UK-owned foreign residential property has increased threefold over the past decade and overseas property investors are enjoying their share of a ÂŁ52 billion industry. It seems that owners of overseas property are increasingly motivated by investment potential rather than simply buying a private holiday home in the sun. Investment potential has been fuelled by the relative attractiveness of overseas prices compared to the prices of second homes in the UK. The ability to finance purchases with the high levels of equity built up in purchasers' main UK residence is also a driving factor. Other forces behind this emerging investment market are the reduction in the cost of flying through the expansion of routes served by low cost airlines along with increased political and economic stability in countries abroad, particularly for new members of the EU. As a result, buyers are also looking further afield, from traditional western European destinations to the likes of Bulgaria, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates. With more property buyers abroad thinking of their home as an investment rather than a second home, 43 per cent of buyers in the survey said they are driven to purchase property with high rental appeal and value. Attributes such as proximity to the sea, whether a property is in a scenic location and easily accessible to an airport are key considerations for buyers. The choice of country also dramatically affects a property's rental potential: cheap property may not be the best choice if you are looking for maximum rental yield. Typically, the highest rents are being achieved in established European holiday destinations such as France, Greece and Portugal. However, while rental yields are highest in Italy, the price per bedroom is also the highest in Europe and rental yields are reduced by high capital values. Along with rental appeal, investment choices are most influenced by the cost of property (26 per cent), re-sale potential (20 per cent) and economic performance of the region (11 per cent).

Last month we started with news from the USA and we will follow with this months update. The US did manage to avoid falling completely to pieces when Congress reached an agreement to increase the debt ceiling which allowed people to thankfully return to work but its not a permanent answer. It seems the government will have until 7 February latest to avoid the scenario occurring all over again. Whilst the previous shutdown did not appear to have too a significant impact on the American economy, consumer confidence did take a bit of a knock. Data indicated that the economy did grow at an annualised rate of about 2.8% in quarter 3, house prices continuing to rise and the number of people returning to work increasing and averaging out at around a extra 190000 per month finding work then things do seem to be on the up. Looking at the UK the trade deficit in goods and services held firm at -ÂŁ3.3billion however it was down to the services sector to offset a weaker goods export number, unfortunately the UK also recorded a large deficit with the EU, not really what it wanted. On a brighter note it has seen new highs and did experience a 6 year high with the Purchasing Managers Index recording 62.5 up from a figure of 60.3 and this sector is the UK's largest contributor. Latest data shows Q3 GDP unchanged at .8% quarter on quarter with the year on year figure at 1.5%, we did see household spending up by around .8%. With UK unemployment rate remaining at 7.7% for the three months to August which is lower than the Bank of England expected it to be, then it'll be a while before it reaches the 7% point at which the Bank of England will think again about the interest rate again.. Overall, the UK labour market continues to improve, more people are working than ever before, with the number of full-time jobs up by more than 100,000 over the three months to August. People are also working slightly longer hours too. There are, however, growing regional differences. The unemployment rate in the North West rose to 8.6%, while it fell in the East of England to 5.9%. The growing regional differences is something that does need to be resolved. UK retail sales did finish quarter 3 in style as retail sales rose 0.6%m/m in September and this despite the continued squeeze on real wages . The improving housing market certainly is causing some as experts are talking once again about a over heated market, very much like the employment numbers this is once again regionalised. As you would expect in a recovering housing market furniture sales increase and household goods did see their first year on year growth since early this year. Higher employment and growing confidence have provided some momentum for retailers as sales growth has strengthened in each quarter this year, with Q3 retail sales posting the fastest quarterly rise since the start of the financial crisis. In the Eurozone we have seen inflation falling to .7% however to protect what is seen as a fragile economic recovery Mr Draghi the ECB reduced interest rates to .25% at its November meeting. The latest Purchasing Managers index dropped from a previous 52.2 to 51.9 in October albeit above the growth and contraction line of 50% its still a concern that it fell. As in the UK the recovery or set back is regionalised and the ECB will do everything it can to stop any rot. Of late and thankfully banks have not hit the headlines however Eurozone Finance Ministers have been meeting to outline plans to deal with troubled banks but Germany and France do not see eye to eye so expect further discussions. Ministers did give themselves a time frame of the end of this year and full implementation in 2015 so pressure is mounting. The European Commission has also been active and have provided their first feedback on budgets being submitted by EU countries, this is the first time using power in Brussels that the commission have been able to review budgets before a country's parliament voted upon them. Two countries were initially singled out and it wont surprise you to learn that they are Italy and Spain. Interestingly the proposal came just a day following Spain announcing that it would not require any further capital to support its banks.

These reviews are certain to leave some countries with a few headaches as they are expected to keep budget deficits to below 3% of GDP and debt levels below 60%.. With the focus on cost cutting then the feeling is countries still need to look at day to day government expenditure rather than decreasing public expenditure. Ok to find a bit of pleasing news, people living in Cyprus may find access to their money a little easier as the country is likely to remove all capital controls in the coming months, remember these were introduced back in March to stop a potential capital outflow. Finally in Italy we now know Mr Berlusconi has been expelled from the senate and Mr Letta won a vote of confidence over the 2014 budget. Exchange rates have seen some movement & generally speaking the pound has been the winner .

STORA SITTING It’s an exciting time here at Storage King Sittingbourne, we are currently converting one of our units into an office following in the success our other stores have had and we are bringing forward our expansion in order to keep up with demand!

The build consisting of 34 units, will take our total to 290 units and at the time of writing we only have one unit left!!

With the housing market slowly starting to move again, we are finding more of the people coming to us are house movers not wanting to lose their buyer and so are moving in with family and friends until they find a suitable property. We also have a few people that are relocating to Europe and even the Caribbean!!

With our generous loading bays we have the capability to receive deliveries on behalf of our customers which they find really helpful as they do not have to take time off and wait in; from beds to bathroom suites and kitchens to tyres we can accept almost anything.

We are still a relatively young store having only been open 4 years but already we are showing a profit much to the owners surprise and we hope the success continues as the need for storage is only going to increase.

AGE KING GBOURNE We believe our success is due to our flexible approach to people’s needs, whatever you have we will find a space to store it.

Quotes:- Rowena Chamberlain, accounts manager London “as a single working Mum , Mick and Natale have always made me feel safe and welcome at the store and if ever there is a problem they are willing to go that extra mile”

Mr and Mrs Harley, Sittingbourne “ We were made so welcome when we stored here, the pressure of moving house was softened by the kindness shown to us at Storage King” So if at any time Spain is too much for you give me or my assistant manager Natale a call on (0044) 1795420247 or e mail us on Sittingbourne@storageking.co.uk and we will be pleased to talk to you. It was on 16 October 1958 that a new children's TV programme first appeared in a 15-minute slot on the BBC. Scheduled for a seven-week run, it has become a national institution. Those seven weeks have become 46 years - and counting. The programme is, of course, Blue Peter . Despite today's plethora of channels offering our kids a diet of mental "fast-food" TV, Blue Peter is as wholesome and popular as ever. The original presenters were former Miss Great Britain Leila Williams and an ex-army officer, the avuncular Christopher Trace, whose acting career had included being Charlton Heston's body double in Ben Hur and whose appointment was not, it is said, unrelated to his prowess at making model train layouts. In the live programme, there were stories illustrated and told by Tony Hart and, in keeping with the times, Trace doing "boys'" items on train sets and the like, while Williams handled the girls' features, with a lot of emphasis on dolls and dolls' houses. She left in 1962 to be briefly replaced by Anita West. But a matter of months later Valerie Singleton joined, and the programme's audience boomed. Singleton, who had trained as an actress, turned out to be the consummate professional, yet with an appealing informal manner, somewhat in contrast to the more staid, authoritative Trace. The show, had, by now, become 30 minutes long. It was at this time, too, that Petra, the Blue Peter dog who was named by a viewer competition, arrived. Actually, the Petra who arrived in December 1962 was unwell and died a couple of days later of distemper. The producers, not wanting to upset a nation of children, scoured the country for a mongrel that looked similar and eventually found the replacement Petra in a pet shop in Lewisham, south London. Petra was to stay with the programme until her death in 1977, but by then pets had become an integral part of the programme, with a succession of dogs, tortoises and cats. Trace's nine-year stint on the programme ended in 1967, making way for the creation of the team that everyone remembers as the heyday of Blue Peter . First came Peter Purves, fresh from appearances as Dr Who assistant Steven and, soon after, John Noakes arrived. By this point the format was fully developed, with the presenters exuding much more fun, being much more "hands on" and tackling a wider range of activity features than in the early days. Singleton appeared as the calming influence on the two male presenters, who had an amazing rapport, exuding fun and mischief.

In this era we saw Singleton accompany Princess Anne on safari in Kenya, Purves climb the Forth Bridge and Noakes free-fall parachute with the Red Devils and climb Nelson's Column. We had the arrival of the coveted Blue Peter badge, the Advent Crown, the Blue Peter annual appeal and an abundance of washing liquid bottles and sticky-back plastic being transformed into "one I made earlier". And who can forget the incident with a baby elephant turning the studio floor into a skating rink? And then it was the time of Shep. Noakes had originally been given responsibility for Patch, one of Petra's puppies, but when he died a black and white collie called Shep arrived. He and Noakes were inseparable, even going on to make the series Go With Noakes together. "Down Shep!" became a national catchphrase. But the story of the pair had an unhappy ending. Amid acrimony, the BBC, which owned the dog, refused to let him stay with Noakes, who, after his TV career, retired to Majorca. The programme began to be shown twice a week. To cope, a new presenter, Lesley Judd, arrived. A former Young Generation dancer, she was to become a heartthrob for a generation of small boys as she slotted into the role of chief 'maker' on the programme, as well as taking part in her own death-defying action reports. In subsequent years presenters went, presenters came. Memorable among them are Janet Ellis, Sarah Greene, Mark Curry, Caron Keating, John Leslie, Anthea Turner, Diane-Louise Jordan and Katy Hill. And throughout it all, the programme has stayed essentially constant. There has not been obvious reinvention, just a very gentle evolution that has always managed to keep young viewers enthralled.

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG Two things will immediately strike you about Peter Jackson's fifth trip to Middle Earth. Firstly, the visuals are stunning, and secondly it's hugely entertaining watching angry dwarves hurtle down river rapids in wooden barrels. Although we're not 100% sure the director intended making us laugh at that bit. Then again, there's something a little comical about the whole Tolkien on film saga. The first Lord of the Rings movie came out 12 years ago, which must make the franchise the longest running series that hasn't wound up going straight to video. In the time between then and now, kids who saw the initial outing could have had kids of their own, and those who originally scoffed at the ultimate fantasy saga ever shown on the big screen have lost interest completely. They can't even be bothered to laugh at it anymore. But, from the perspective of the fans, these epics have been consistently strong, and the new outing, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug , is no different. Furthermore, those hoping for more excitement than The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be delighted to know that's what is on offer here. In that episode, a good chunk of the early scenes could easily have been removed, and in the end there was the frustrating sense of three hours having been spent merely introducing the story. In 2013, then, we're thrown into the action far quicker, and from then on it's a rather intense experience. Without giving away too much for any heathens taking the time to read this but neglecting the Tolkien source material, Jackson's latest effort sees the dwarves, Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey continue on the quest they began in the last chapter: reclaiming their homeland of Erebor from Smaug, a massive dragon, a beast far bigger than any army could fight, Thankfully, our motley crew of strangely-named heroes have a bit of extra help what with their magic powers, and some mysterious ring that you may or may not have heard a bit about before. So we witness the band of braves battling against all manner of foes, and even coming to blows with folk we know eventually become friends in the Lord of the Rings movies. Elf squares up to dwarf, that fire-breather approaches with the subtlety of an earthquake, giant spiders stalk Hobbits in eerie woods and Dali-esque landscapes are beautifully rendered in jaw-dropping CGI. Business as usual for Jackson, then. If that sounds better than Dont Tell the Bride, then we recommend venturing out into the cold to catch this when it arrives in cinemas nationwide from 13th December.

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY If, like us, you remember the first time cinemagoers encountered the most famous fantasist of all time, and have seen the previews for this new remake of that post-war gem, then two things will have struck you. Let's take them one at a time. Firstly, 2013's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has quite a unique trailer, where there's almost no dialogue whatsoever, save for the last few seconds. Instead, we're treated to a montage of surrealist scenes where posters become three-dimensional worlds to step into, whilst Jose Gonzalez and St. Vincent provide an epic, somewhat inspirational, score. And, secondly, it looks like Walter Mitty suddenly got a lot more action-packed. But then again, this is the 21st Century the CGI age. So you can make Ben Stiller do pretty much anything you want even if that means throwing him off a high-rise, and having him diving through the closed window of a room in the opposite building. Far-fetched in the extreme, anyone unfamiliar with the source material is probably wondering what on Earth is going on, and which lunatic director decided to cast said small funnyman in an action film. Well, don't worry too much, because that's not exactly what's happening here. Walter Mitty (back in the stories of the 1930s, played by Danny Kaye in 1947, and here played by Stiller) is a meek and mild-mannered man. In this instance he works for Life magazine, but spends a lot more time staring into space than working, or so it seems from what we're shown. His colleagues busy themselves with whatever task is at hand, which often involves laughing at this grown-up daydreamer. All the while, our protagonist is imagining the vivid scenarios he'd rather be involved in. Looking at things from this perspective then, Walter Mitty now is the same as he ever was, although it has to be said there's a zeitgeist present today that was never there before. You can't help but feel there's an attempt to create Eternal Sunshine -levels of emotion, as we lucidly pass between the real and the conjured, but whether the fundamentals of the story (a guy who's bored out of his mind in the office and with life in general) can wrench hearts like a tale about people erasing memories of each other is another question altogether. To put it simply, the old Mitty was a man we almost laughed at, rather than with. In an age when hard graft was a given, rather than the sign of a stand-out employee, and the rewards of our labour were perhaps more tangible, he was the anchor around the necks of his colleagues. In 2013 there's more empathy expected on our part. It's still funny, and purposely so, with many of the fantasies he dreams up a mixture of adventure, excitement and deadpan humour, yet there's a more dramatic aspect too, and the point seems to be celebrating our imagination, rather than pure tongue-in-cheek fun. Not bad, just not that great either.

RELEASE DATE: WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 25TH

MO’S POEMS: THE BLACK HOLE Don’t pretend that you don’t know What this is all about. We’ve all been there, it’s not just you, Yet you can sort it out. It’s a truth, that for us girls, Life can be quite tough. But cos we’re strong, we can never say That we have had enough. I know that you, like all of us, From time to time have found, That you will think of anything, So’s not to see the ground. It’s not the road, or turf or path, That puts the fear in you. It’s just the thought that if you look, You may well see it too; That festering cauldron, beckoning For you to jump right in. That deep, dank pit of sadness, That won’t let life’s light in. You cannot place your footfall Exactly where you please, For fear of slowly sinking, Hence the ill at ease, the Constant knot of repression You seem to need to feel, Tearing at your fragile soul, While you try hard to deal With daily chores that grow so big, Further burdened by the weight Of your smiling teeth, your open face, Your philosophical belief in fate. My advice to you, my friend, Probably not quite profound; If you take a backward step, You will find the solid ground In which to plant a sapling wish.

They say music is not what it once was. At least, industrially speaking. In many ways, bands have never been bigger than they are today. The rooms they fill, the global reach it all goes well beyond limitations of the past. Yet from sales to myths and legends, the entire scene is a pale reflection of its former, TV-out-the-hotel-window self. The once all-important Christmas Number One is another example. The pop world has shifted on its axis with such titanic ferocity that the identity of the artist or artists at the top of the UK charts on the Sunday before Christmas is almost irrelevant. It's becoming a joke in itself. You don't need to sell millions of units to score a number one in an age in which many music fans don't even bother buying music.. Realistically speaking, December's festive top spot is open to whoever has the biggest marketing budget, and the X Factor contestants. If you don't believe us, just ask James King, the man responsible for It's Christmaaaas! Whatever Happened to the Christmas Single? With a title like that, we won't bother explaining what the pages therein are about, but instead let's focus on the evidence the author has collated, which serves to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Yuletide hits are a product of post-war, pre-millennium western culture. Although this isn't something we all simply have to accept. Referencing classics that have featured on festive compilations for years then, we name-check the likes of Rockin' around the Christmas Tree , Do They Know It's Christmas? and Fairytale of New York . It's a tragic comic journey through one man's impressive knowledge of pop history that will resonate, whether your idea of the perfect Xmas smash is Nat Cole or East 17. Better yet, for anyone who isn't quite ready to say goodbye to the concept of seasonal anthems, there may also be a little hope here too. In many ways, King's work is also a manifesto, or a thesis on the way things were, are and still can be. Rather than simply paying some respect to a concept that has kept label bosses in bonuses for decades, we also explore the connotations of these unifying records, and (under the scribe's careful guidance) must conclude that, irrespective of music sales, digital piracy and the irrelevance of mainstream radio, the world needs a new All I Want For Christmas Is You , and it needs one soon. Here's hoping someone takes it upon themselves to release an anthem next year then, as 2013's audible offerings are looking disappointing.

It's that time of year again, so break out the turkey and the decorations. Whilst you're there we implore you to stick on these tracks too, all of which will more than get you in the appropriate mood. Bing Crosby ' White Christmas' Whilst nobody could advise against watching the 1954 film from which this song is taken, we're talking music here, not video, and the gentle tones of Mr Crosby still sound great, even when you can't see his face.

The Pogues ' Fairytale of New York ' It wasn't made for Christmas, and tells a tale that's devoid of seasonal cheer. Nevertheless, the Irish punk-folk kings crafted the best track to sing whilst in the pub on 24th December, and for that we salute them. Bobby Helms ' Jingle Bell Rock ' If you want country rock 'n' roll guitar twang, mixed with a festive atmosphere, then look no further than Bobby Helms' watershed 1957 single, Jingle Bell Rock . Good times, quite literally, guaranteed. David Bowie & Bing Crosby ' The Little Drummer Boy ' This song is set to a bizarre back-story, where David calls at Bing's house for a 'surprise' visit. The two hit it off and, although the idea of a BowieCrosby duet seems weird, the result of their jam is a true delight. Mariah Carey ' All I Want For Christmas Is You ' There are a lot of things not to like about Mariah 'Diva' Carey, but this hit from the mid-90s isn't one of them. From the opening sound of sleighbells to the sudden change in tempo, it's a bona fide party-starter.

Slade ' Merry Christmas Everybody ' The lungs of Neville John 'Noddy' Holder, MBE no less, are put to the test in this glam-rock message of goodwill to all. There's not a pair of ears in Britain that won't be exposed to this between now and January. Bruce Springsteen 'Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town ' Who can forget the first time they heard The Big Man himself delivering this stunning rendition of what could be the most exciting Yuletide anthem of all time? Well, certainly not us, that's for sure. Eartha Kitt ' Santa Baby ' Sexy, sultry, suggestive but unarguably fun, Ms. Kitt proves herself to be quite the kitten under the tree with her version of this classic Christmas coupling tune, later re-released by Madonna. The Waitresses ' Christmas Wrapping ' It's fast, infectiously positive and few people know the words. The Waitresses have one clear message, though: " Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, couldn't miss this one this year ." Enough said, then. The Nat King Cole Trio ' The Christmas Song ' " Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Jack Frost nipping at your toes Yuletide carols being sung by a choir and folks dressed up like Eskimos. " Political incorrectness aside, you have to love it.

We've all been there before. Sitting snug on the sofa, winds howling outside, tree lights twinkling and classic movie playing on the telly. Then those fateful words are uttered: "Come on, turn that off now, darling." Whether the switch-off is for Trivial Pursuit or charades, a mother or husband, there's a moral high ground that can be, and often is, taken against TV at Christmas. Of course it's true that the box isn't conducive to conversation. And yes, everyone knows that in order to exploit the imagination's true potential and stay sharp as a button the fewer broadcasting hours watched the better. But then think of all the memories we have, thanks to December's television. From Wallace & Gromit to The Snowman , British viewers have long been treated to worthwhile Yuletide institutions, beamed directly into the corner of their sitting room. Picturing the situation is to render an image in the mind synonymous with modern festivities. Perhaps it's Christmas Day itself, presents now unwrapped, dinner cooking in the oven, gifts being pored over, as drinks are leisurely poured out. Maybe it's Boxing Day, with the family lackadaisically consuming anything that survived the previous afternoon's feast.

Either way, you know the feeling. Pure comfort and warmth, surrounded by loved ones. There's nothing quite like settling down to a wholesome viewing session with those closest to you at this particular time of year. Granted, the celebration is one that's inherently about Jesus, and specifically his birth, but in 2013 it also stands for taking stock of what's important, and more importantly who is important, and spending some quality time with them. So this year we say TV and film advocates should speak up for themselves. The next time someone claims a game would invoke a greater feeling of togetherness simply retort "No, that's not necessarily true." Then recount the instances spent in front of that intoxicating screen: times when teenagers find themselves strangely entranced by Hercule Poirot, as the spirit of the occasion gets the better of their cynical side; moments when elderly retirees begin voicing their support for Bruce Willis in Die Hard ; the occasions when multiple generations find a happy middle ground in the television listings, sugared treats are brought out and differences put to one side (at least for a few hours.) In short then, a very Merry Christmas and very happy viewing to all.

We are Spanish Stray Dogs and Spanish Stray Dogs UK. We are a small organisation that was originally set up in 2010 to help just one stray dog and since then we have grown and grown and have now received our charity status in the UK. We are proud that our team have managed to rescue and rehome hundreds of dogs and our dogs, many of whom were treated as trash on the streets of Spain, are scattered far and wide all around the world living with families who care for them and love them. One man's trash is another man's treasure and for many of the dogs we have been able to rescue that is certainly the case.

The concept of forcing animals to perform unnatural acts for our own sense of twisted amusement is, thankfully, becoming rapidly outmoded. But amazingly even in the 21st century a few animal circuses do still exist in the UK and the RSPCA is on a mission to stamp them out. Apart from the obvious cruelty of dragging an animal away from its natural habitat to perform needlessly, the conditions and treatment of circus animals often leaves much to be desired. As a result, animal welfare organisations such as the RSPCA, People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) and Vegetarians International Voice for Animals (Viva) are, not surprisingly, eager to put an end to this misery. Sadly the RSPCA reports there are an estimated 200 animals still remaining in British circuses, of which around 30 are wild. To make matters worse, there is currently no restriction on which species can be held by circuses and, astoundingly, legal provisions for their welfare are minimal. The problem is that animal welfare is not top of the list for most circus managers as they are more concerned with making money. Most animals kept in circuses are bred in captivity and so never experience the environment necessary to express their natural behaviour and provide them with other welfare needs, the RSPCA reports. Another reason the animal charity is so keen to see the back of circuses is the amount of frequent travel involved in circus life. Being forced to move, constant human handling, noise, vibration, cage motion and confinement can cause considerable stress to animals. Research carried out in recent years revealed that circuses with animals travelled an average of 1,864 miles during the show season and were transported an average of 103 miles between sites. The RSPCA reports that the animals were loaded and unloaded an average of 52 times during this period and were sometimes given only two days to recover before being transported to the next site.

In the wild, animals have endless space to live in and explore but circuses are limited in the amount of space they can offer and cannot provide the environmental enrichment required for a captive animal. Similarly, the animals' housing generally consists of so-called beast wagons and temporary pens, which provide little comfort. What is worse is that the minimum display pen sizes advocated by the Association of Circus Proprietors of Great Britain (ACP) for big cats, bears, zebra, camels, pygmy hippo, giraffe, elephants and primates are on average 70 per cent smaller than the average recommended minimum outdoor enclosure sizes for the same species kept in zoos. The animal welfare charity also says crowds and noise can cause severe welfare problems in captive animals and it does not believe that teaching animals to perform inappropriate tricks does anything to educate the public or foster respect for animals. No science-based evidence exists to indicate that training and performance make up for the lack of stimulation provided by the circuses' impoverished living accommodation. For these reasons the RSPCA is determined to stamp out what it sees as an archaic spectacle and has called for a public ban on animal circuses.

SAGITTARIUS The best thing about falling out with your lover is the making up afterwards! Use your imagination and your relationship will get better as the weeks go by this month. Expect a little surprise at some point in December too. You know you have worked hard to get where you are, now is the time to chill out a bit and indulge in those little luxuries. You have a good reason to celebrate this December so you can't be blamed for pushing the boat out just a little bit. Things may have not got off on the right start for you and certain family members but this month you have the opportunity to make amends.

CAPRICORN As much as you might like to speak your mind to your work colleagues, now is not the time to. Concentrate on doing your own job and try not to rock the boat too much. You have more than your own fair share of problems this December; let others deal with their own. A small part of you wants to return to a place from where you had the happiest of memories. However going back will not be the same, instead cherish those good times you had, nothing and nobody will ever take them away from you.

AQUARIUS Differences between you and your partner may come apparent during December 2012, this could be due to a strong clash of personalities. You may begin to wonder whether this relationship is right for both of you, sitting down and talking things over calmly would be the wisest thing to do. Time to stop dreaming about what you can do with your money and thinking realistically what you can do to achieve more. Only you have the control over the present situation you are in and the ability to make changes where you see fit. Put these in practice this December.

PISCES December 2012 is a good month for building up relationships, as Pisces will find it easy to charm members of the opposite sex more than usual. Relations between you and your partner will blossom. If single expect a new lover to enter your life very soon. Don't be over adventurous in the work place this December as not everyone will be beating to the same drum as you. It is best just to keep your mind on the task at hand and take it one step at a time. You will get your rewards all in good time, sadly this month is just not going to be it. Panic buying is not the answer to your money worries. Time and patience is all that is needed to plan ahead for the future.

ARIES Be wary of spending too much this month as you may need to plan ahead for something bigger in the near future. Just by believing that you can achieve bigger and better things will create a path for you by remaining positive. You have plenty of support from family and friends but there comes a time when you need to be alone. Be appreciative of others efforts but politely decline if you feel that some are being intrusive. Make sure that you have your own private and quiet place where you can relax and clear your head.

TAURUS Keep a low profile in work this month, getting involved will only make matters worse. Let people deal with their own issues, they are the one with the problem not you. Everything will settle in its own good time towards the end of December without your help. The best thing for you to do this month is to take a break, whether it is by yourself or with a loved one. This will give you much needed rest and peace of mind. Any problems can just wait until you return home.

GEMINI There will always be highs and lows in every relationship and you may feel a little bit out of sorts but you will come to realise this month that there are certain things and certain people who will remain with you through thick and thin. Be sure to show your appreciation to the right people during December 2012 Think twice about buying that luxury item this month, you know you really don't need it. You may feel others are watching you closely and being judged but just remember that your own personal affairs are your business and have nothing to do with anyone else.

CANCER You feel yourself pulled in different directions this month as someone who may think they are trying to help may be doing more harm than good. You need to make your own decisions in what is best for you in your romantic relationship. Following your instincts will be your best bet. The decisions you make might not always be the right ones but they are yours alone to make. Don't let others push you around, go at things at your own pace for you know that is the way you can get more done. Don't forget to spend some quality time with a close friend during December 2012.

LEO There is no point in trying to get your point across this month as you may as well be flogging a dead horse. Instead keep your head down, the time will come when you will have the final say, unfortunately for you December 2012 is not the time. A short journey with a close friend will do you both the world of good, plan ahead what you both decide to do and where to go. Don't be put off by criticism, this is your trip and you have every right to enjoy it. This is the month when you will have to decide to learn to compromise with others or just leave it well alone and move on.

VIRGO You have worked hard to get where you want to be today but you also need to take time out once in a while and concentrate on other aspects in your life. Others may resent the amount of time you are working especially when all you do is complain about it anyway. If need be then change your job, you may be thankful afterwards that you did. Money is important but it is not the be all and end all in life. Everyone has money problems and you are no exception.

LIBRA Try and keep your cool in work as though not everything will go your way, you will only make things worse by blowing your top. Be patient and go with the flow. Keep track of what is going on around you and when the time comes, you will have your chance to speak up, you will know when it is. Journeys may be well best avoided this month as relations that are already on a rocky patch could be made worse by spending too much time focusing on the negative aspects. Keep yourself occupied with things that are of interest to you. This is not the time to dwell in self-pity.

SCORPIO Time alone in peaceful solitude may be just what the doctor ordered this month. This will help clear your mind before you finally decide what you really want out of a relationship. In the meantime just go with the flow, the best option will be the easiest one this December. This is not the time to be rocking the boat in the work environment. Keep your head down and get on with your own tasks in hand. Don't get involved in any petty arguments either this month, you know you are better and above all that. Financial problems will ease for you this month and you will get some respite.

GONE BUT NOT JIMI H Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix Born November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970 was an American guitarist and singer-songwriter, widely considered to be the greatest guitarist in musical history and one of the most influential musicians of his era across a range of genres. Hendrix was born Johnny Allen Hendrix in Seattle, Washington. Hendrix was a shy and sensitive boy, deeply affected by the poverty and family disruption he experienced at a young age. At age 15, around the time his mother died, he acquired his first acoustic guitar for $5 from an acquaintance of his father. Hendrix learned to play by practicing for several hours a day, watching others play, getting tips from more experienced players, and listening to records. After initial success in Europe with his group The Jimi Hendrix Experience, he achieved fame in the United States following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Later, Hendrix headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival and the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival.

T FORGOTTEN HENRIX Hendrix was influenced by blues artists such as B.B. King & rhythm and blues and soul guitarists Curtis Mayfield and Steve Cropper. Hendrix began dressing and wearing a moustache like Little Richard when he performed and recorded in his band from March 1, 1964 through to the spring of 1965. In 1966, Hendrix stated, "I want to do with my guitar what Little Richard does with his voice." Jimi Hendrix died in London at his girlfriend Monika Dannemanns flat at the Samarkand Hotel on September 18th 1970. After taking nine of his girlfriend’s sleeping pills (instead of the prescribed one pill) Hendrix asphyxiated in his own vomit. Hendrix won many of the most prestigious rock music awards in his lifetime, and has been posthumously awarded many more, including being inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was dedicated in 1994. In 2003 Rolling Stone named Hendrix the top guitarist on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all-time in 2003.

A tough looking group of bikers were riding when they saw a girl about to jump off a bridge so they stopped. The leader, a big burly man, gets off his bike and says, "What are you doing?" "I'm going to commit suicide," she says. While he did not want to appear insensitive, he didn't want to miss an opportunity so he asked… "Well, before you jump, why don't you give me a kiss?" So she does... And it was a long, deep lingering kiss. After she's finished, the biker says, "Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had. That's a real talent you are wasting. You could be famous. Why are you committing suicide?" "My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl......

WHY didn't I figure this out sooner!!!!! It's the shampoo I use in the shower! When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and (duh!) Printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning, "FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY." No WONDER I have been gaining weight!!! Well, I’ve got rid of that shampoo and I am going to start using Fairy’s Dish Washing Liquid instead. Its label reads: "DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE." Problem solved! If I don't answer the phone . .... .. I'll be in the shower!

Don't Fart in Harrods A lady walks into Harrods. She looks around, spots a beautiful diamond bracelet and walks over to inspect it. As she bends over to look more closely, she unexpectedly farts. Very embarrassed, she looks around nervously to see if anyone noticed her little woops and prays that a sales person was not anywhere near. As she turns around, her worst nightmare materialises in the form of a salesman standing right behind her - good looking as well. Cool as a cucumber, he displays all of the qualities one would expect of a professional in a store like Harrods. He politely greets the lady with, 'Good day, Madam. How may we help you today?' Blushing and uncomfortable, but still hoping that the salesman somehow missed her little 'incident', she asks 'What is the price of this lovely bracelet?' He answers, "Madam - if you farted just looking at it you're going to sh*t yourself when I tell you the price!"

How Adam Got Eve Adam was hanging around the Garden of Eden feeling very lonely. So, God asked him, "What's wrong with you?" Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to. God said that He was going to make Adam a companion and that it would be a woman. He said, "This pretty lady will gather food for you, she will cook for you, and when you discover clothing, she will wash them for you. She will always agree with every decision you make and she will not nag you, And will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you've had a disagreement. She will praise you! She will bear your children. And never ask you to get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. 'She will NEVER have a headache and will freely give you love and passion whenever you need it." Adam asked God, "What will a woman like this cost?" “An arm and a leg. Then Adam asked, "What can I get for a rib?" Of course the rest is history...!!!!

JOKE OF THE MONTH TWO OLD MEN DECIDE THEY ARE CLOSE TO THEIR LAST DAYS AND DECIDE TO HAVE A LAST NIGHT ON THE TOWN. AFTER A FEW DRINKS, THEY END UP AT THE LOCAL BROTHEL THE MADAM TAKES ONE LOOK AT THE TWO OLD GEEZERS AND WHISPERS TO HER MANAGER, 'GO UP TO THE FIRST TWO BEDROOMS AND PUT AN INFLATED DOLL IN EACH BED. THESE TWO ARE SO OLD AND DRUNK, I'M NOT WASTING TWO OF MY GIRLS ON THEM. THEY WON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.' THE MANAGER DOES AS HE IS TOLD AND THE TWO OLD MEN GO UPSTAIRS AND TAKE CARE OF THEIR BUSINESS. AS THEY ARE WALKING HOME THE FIRST MAN SAYS, 'YOU KNOW, I THINK MY GIRL WAS DEAD!' 'DEAD?' SAYS HIS FRIEND, 'WHY DO YOU SAY THAT?' 'WELL, SHE NEVER MOVED OR MADE A SOUND ALL THE TIME I WAS LOVING HER.' HIS FRIEND SAYS, 'COULD BE WORSE I THINK MINE WAS A WITCH.' 'A WITCH ??. . WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU SAY THAT?' ..... . 'WELL, I WAS MAKING LOVE TO HER, KISSING HER ON THE NECK, AND I GAVE HER A LITTLE BITE, THEN SHE FARTED AND FLEW OUT THE WINDOW..... TOOK MY TEETH WITH HER TOO, DARN IT!'

Rarely is more pressure applied to a cooking performance than at Christmas - unless you happen to be a contestant on Masterchef, that is. Fundamentally, it is not the most complex of culinary tasks, but with such high expectations, it is worth taking measures to ensure you get it just right.

Get The Best Equipment Like with most things in life, the quality of the tools you use will impact on the quality of the finished result. Although this may involve a relatively large investment, it will make cooking throughout the year a more pleasurable experience, too. A high-quality and decent-sized roasting tin is a must and, on top of this, it is worth having a quality peeler, carving knife, gravy separators and turkey basters. Not only will quality equipment help to ensure that the quality of the food is of a high standard, but it will also remove some of the stress. When you have a cupboard full of parsnips and potatoes, for example, the last thing you want is a poor quality peeler. It can also be crucial to ensure that you have enough tin foil and baking paper far in advance, as these often run out as Christmas approaches.

Prepare Early Rather than frantically rushing around the supermarket at the last minute, it is worth writing your Christmas menu, along with a list of ingredients, long in advance. This will ensure that you don’t forget, or miss out, any vital ingredients. You can also choose a starter, or desserts, that you can prepare in advance. This will reduce stress on the day. It also means that, if you are creating something slightly experimental for the first time, you can make mistakes and it's not the end of the world. It is also worth giving your kitchen a thorough clean before the culinary madness begins. Everyone works better in a clean and organised space. If you start with a clean slate, there is less chance of everything becoming completely disorganised before the end of the festive period.

Order Your Turkey Early Turkey is eaten more because of tradition, than as a genuine preference. It is not the best meat, and thus it is even more important to ensure that you get a quality bird. As anyone who has left it too late before knows, there isn't an endless supply of quality turkeys. You don't want to be frantically running around at the last minute, only to get your hands on a tiny bird. There are many websites where you can order a quality turkey well in advance.

Get Some Support Although your partner or children may not be the most gifted in the kitchen, it is often the simple things that become time consuming. Don’t feel like Christmas dinner has to be a solo mission. Noone will begrudge you requesting a little support. This can make you feel more at ease too. Turn some music on, have a little glass of wine - not too many - and allow the dinner to take care of itself. After all, by this stage, with all of the preparation you have put in, you should be all set to produce a masterpiece.

One last bit of advice is to remember that no-one ever complains about having too much food at Christmas. Make a feast, and if its not all eaten up on the day, it will be sure to disappear rapidly over the next couple of days. Remember - if its all too much, you could just opt for a pizza

ROAST PHEASANT

Pheasant makes a nice change from chicken, and this recipe gives a richness to the meat, while Madeira gravy adds something special. Serves 4. INGREDIENTS 2 pheasants 1 apple, chopped 4 rashers streaky bacon seasoning For the gravy: 2 tbsp Madeira 1-2 tsp arrowroot or cornflour 300ml game or chicken stock METHOD

Preheat the oven to 190C, 375F, gas mark 5. Lay the rashers of bacon over the breast meat and put some apple and pepper into the main cavity of the birds. Arrange the birds in a large roasting tin, pour the stock around the outside and roast in the oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the birds are cooked. When the pheasants are cooked, lift onto a carving board, cover with foil and leave to stand for 10 minutes. Prepare the gravy. Tip the cooking juices into a jug and skim away excess fat. If necessary, make up to 300ml with water. Return the juices to the roasting tin with the madeira and bring to the boil, simmering for a few minutes until a good flavour is obtained. Mix the arrowroot or cornflour with a little water and blend into the hot stock. Season to taste with pepper and strain into a gravy boat. Serve the pheasant with the gravy and a selection of roasted vegetables and/or parsnip chips.

RASPBERRY CRĂˆME BRULEE

This is seen as a special pudding but is easy to make. Any fruit can be used, although fresh seasonal varieties give the best results. Serves 4. INGREDIENTS 4 egg yolks 1 tsp (level) caster sugar 1 pint cream 1 tsp vanilla essence 1 box raspberries caster sugar for t opping METHOD Mix egg yolks well with sugar. Put cream in a double saucepan, bring to scalding point then allow to cool. Pour cream over egg yolk mixture, blending well. Add vanilla essence and then return to the saucepan and thicken carefully over the heat stirring constantly. Dont let it boil. It is ready when the cream mixture will cover and stick to the back of a spoon. Put raspberries into four glass dishes and then strain in the cream mixture. Leave in the fridge for at least 2 hours. When cool and set, dust surface with caster sugar and caramelise with a cook's blowtorch until crunchy. Tip: If you don't have a cooks blowtorch then put the crème brulee under the grill to brown - but put it in a dish with ice so you don't cook the custard.

Add more ice and the remaining scotch or bourbon and stir again for 10-15 seconds. To serve, garnish with lemon peel.

EGG NOG Ingredients 1140ml/2 pints whole milk 6 free-range eggs 50g/2oz castor sugar 1 vanilla pod, split 20 fresh cherries, stones removed and halved 200ml/7fl oz brandy Cocoa powder, for dusting

Preparation method Place the milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla pod in a medium pan and heat gently, without boiling, until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. The egg nog can be chilled at this stage or served hot. To serve, scatter the cherries in the bottom of each serving glass. Divide the brandy between the glass and pour the egg nog over. Dust with cocoa powder and serve.

LaTeteria kasbah MO’s KASBAH Welcome to our new restaurant review section. We will be sending diners out to advise you of some of the best places to eat along the Costa del Sol. Our first experience was at Mo’s Kasbah. We were invited to Mo’s Kasbah located in the Port of Fuengirola square and the team being avid lovers of Moroccan cuisine couldn’t resist the invitation. On a beautiful Friday evening we were greeted by the host and shown to our table by very polite waiting staff. The were a mix of tourists of varied nationalities and locals alike who were there to soak up the atmosphere. Moroccan style sofas and decorative artefacts surrounded us, with customers enjoying the genuine hubbly bubblies, as they are affectionately known, combined with the ambience of being in an authentic Moroccan Kasbah environment. The internal dining area of the Kasbah was decorated in full authentic Moroccan décor with the smells of the beautiful cuisine and the hubbly bubblies lingering in the air all adding to the ambience and experience. Mo was on the outside griddle and prepared us a beautiful spicy chicken shish kebab with sides of perfectly cooked rice, chips, salad and home made bread. Absolutely gorgeous, with awesome aromas to tantalise the taste buds. After all he’s been doing this for over 40 years so he has had plenty of time to perfect his culinary skills. All this food was accompanied and washed down by a full selection of beers, wines and spirits to suit everyone’s tastes.

Fuengirola Port At 23.00 we were treated to live Moroccan Music on a key board with a great vocalist accompanied by 2 beautiful Moroccan belly dancers, Julia & Jaishri, in full traditional costume dancing in-between the sofas and tables of the customers making for a personal outdoor experience. We spoke to some of the customers and Leisa & Brian Cooper, a couple from Hartlepool in the UK, who were on a 4-day break to Fuengirola summed up Mo’s Kasbah perfectly. “ The food is excellent! We wish we had opted for the large Shish kebab instead of the small, as it was delicious. We had a lovely evening and we will definitely be back next time we are in Spain and totally recommend Mos Kasbah”. Across Spain also highly recommends Mo’s Kasbah with its great food, great ambience, great entertainment, and authentic Moroccan experience at a competitive price. A fantastic night out not to be missed.

IS A MEDITERRANEAN DIET THE KEY TO A LONG LIFE? A Mediterranean diet has long been heralded as the perfect recipe for a long, happy life but researchers now say that the high levels of fish and seafood and fewer servings of dairy traditionally thought to contribute, make little or no difference to lifespan or health. With that in mind is the healthy Mediterranean diet a myth? Scientists have now found a way to identify the positive components of the diet, identifying the parts most likely to contribute to a longer lifespan. Research over the years has shown that the diet can help to reduce the risks of debilitating or life-threatening conditions such as cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's. Additionally, the very latest research, carried out on 23,000 people, gave eaters of a Mediterranean diet an extra eight years on those not regularly following the same. Perhaps surprisingly, the Harvard School of Public Health, who conducted the study, suggest that in terms of lengthening life span the most effective part of the diet was the regular consumption of wine. In addition to drinking wine, a reduced consumption of meats and high levels of fruit, vegetables and nuts was also effective. The evidence may be somewhat damning in Britain where the majority of the population eat meat with almost every meal and where drinking, even moderately, is discouraged. Likewise few Brits eat substantial amounts of fruit and vegetables in their everyday diet. Harvard's study shows that the combination of key components of the diet is also helpful, for example combining vegetables and olive oil is shown to be excellent. With this in mind a less meat heavy diet is positively encouraged, dining only occasionally on, in particular, red meat. Meals that feature vegetables as their main component, cooked in olive oil and perhaps garnished with a handful of nuts are an excellent daily addition to your diet, while a glass of wine with your meal should definitely not be viewed as a negative. As far as the study was concerned, the addition of fish and seafood to a person's diet did not seem to factor in health levels and a longer life. However, as previous studies have shown that larger, fatty fish such as salmon or tuna contain good omega-3 fatty acids that contribute to a lower risk for certain diseases, particularly prostate cancer, they should definitely not be seen as 'bad'. It is also worth remembering that lifestyle plays a large part in a person's health. Indeed the Mediterranean lifestyle, with generally lower stress levels and less hours spent behind a desk, could not be further from the British way of life, where stress levels have rocketed in recent years with stress-related illnesses at a high, particularly in women. As well as changing your diet think about reducing your stress, Mediterranean style, by taking full breaks from work, spending more time outdoors and dining with friends and family instead of in front of the television.
