Qiong Hai Jiaji Wan Quanhe West Bank Development Qiong Hai, Chin a * Qiong Hai Design Competition winner Sir Ebenezer Howard initiated an urban planning method in 1898 called The Garden City Movement. Garden cities were intended to be planned, self-contained communities surrounded by “greenbelts,” containing proportionate areas of residences, industry, and agriculture. Leedscape focused around this idea of The Garden City and presented the client with a thorough design document outlining the following: current conditions, design concept, planning, and conceptual design. With only two weeks for preparation, collaboration and time management were key to meet a strict deadline. My responsibilities included the conceptual design of waterfront and adjacent properties, as well as oversight of the rendering process. (Design entry available upon request) GUANGZHOU GUIGANG

Thaiwoo Ski Resort Workers Dormitory & Youth Hostel Chongli, China With the combined efforts of leaders in ski resort design, the Thaiwoo Ski Resort will be the model for all asian ski resorts. Leedscape was charged with the critical task of completing the construction documentation phase of the entire resort, as well as the design of the Workers Dormitory and Youth Hostel. After weekly meetings and numerous design revisions, I was able to proceed to the design development phase of the area. With the help of Design Workshop’s Document Standards book, I was able to create and oversee roughly 75% completion of the DD set. It was an incredible learning process, and it has prepared me to aid in tackling any step in the design process. Client | Raissun Investment Sun Juan njfusunjuan@126.com

Coldstream Multi-Generational Fitness Facility Lex ington, KY The University of Kentucky Landscape Architecture program prides itself on their courses revolving around construction documentation and implementation. Throughout the five year program, students encounter the following courses: Grading and Drainage, Materials and Methods, and Working Drawings. Beginning with conceptual design, I went through the entire design process up to a set of working drawings that encompassed the layout, grading, drainage, lighting, planting, and irrigation plans. This process was further reinforced with my involvement in publication editing of Design Workshop’s Document Standards book. The rigorous class schedule was designed around an office environment, teaching me how to design smart and efficiently. * PDF of full set can be presented upon request

NuLu Multi-Use Urban Park Louisville, KY NuLu, a growing, hip district along Market St. in Louisville, KY is comprised of two historic neighborhoods. The district has transformed considerably in the past six years, however the opportunity exists to build on established momentum in additional areas. The NuLu Multi-Use Urban Park is a project designed to repurpose an old brownfield site into an urban park in the heart of this diverse community. This park regenerated an existing brownfield park, adopting a multi-use building and two plazas in its heart. The public plaza will house an outdoor eatery, public performance stage, and various spaces to sit and relax. The private plaza offers a peaceful relaxation space. Both plazas and a multi-use building in NuLu’s Urban Park will be vital additions to the area.

EPA Campus Rainworks Challenge Lex ington, KY The group project focused on the southern portion of the University of Kentucky and edge of downtown Lexington to create a model for storm water management through design, education, and community outreach. Outdoor classrooms, wetland habitats, underground cisterns, porous paving, and signage were integrated into the design to help inform and mitigate Lexington’s current water management practices.

Design Week 2012 Lex ington, KY * Design Week Best Overall Project Design Week is a week-long design charrette hosted by Design Workshop. Students from all studios collaborated with professors and two landscape architects from Design Workshop, Kurt Culbertson and Ed Krafcik. Students were asked to redesign an abandoned railroad segment that is planned to be the “front door” to the University of Kentucky. Our group took this abandoned segment and solved the design problem by transforming it into a multi-functioning open space for visitors and students. We integrated a multi-use trail with public open space for studying, eating, and socializing. This once dilapidated railroad has been given an identity and will serve as an exceptional “front door” to the University of Kentucky.

LexconNEXT Trolley Study Lex ington, KY * ProgressLex Micro-Grant Winner & KYASLA Honor Award Lexington, KY, the second largest city in Kentucky, is home to a very rich history. The LexconNext Trolley Study was a collaborative effort involving four landscape architecture students, an urban developer (Griffin Vanmeter), a local urban designer and planner (Louis Johnson), and the CEO of Lexington’s public transit system (Rocky). The students were asked to analyze the existing trolley, history of Lexington, and public views and stigmas of public transit. Once the information was gathered we set out to provide design solutions for several prominent issues; consistent wayfinding, public awareness, readable transit maps, and the overall look and feel of the trolley.

Great Falls Streetscape G reat Falls, MT The past two winters I had the privilege of working with Design Workshop’s Aspen Office. While interning, I had the opportunity to work on various projects; From design of streetscape improvements in downtown Great Falls, MT, to graphic and textual improvements to their Document Standards book. Design Workshop taught the skills necessary to work effectively in a professional environment with deadline and budget constraints. The experience at Design Workshop was invaluable and provided a solid foundation for professional development.
