OUR MISSION

Charlotte Christian School is a Christ-centered, college preparatory school, equipping and developing students to effectively integrate Biblical truth and learning into their daily lives and to impact the culture for Christ.

2015-16 BIBLE VERSE:

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

APPEARANCE CODE

Charlotte Christian students are required to dress modestly and neatly, as appropriate for a particular occasion, and in a manner that is not distractive to the learning environment or that draws undue attention to themselves. Please access the Student Expectations, Honor and Appearance Code on the school website for specific information about the school’s appearance code. The form can be found in the parent portal under “School Forms.”

CAMPUS SECURITY

Between the hours of 8:15 a.m. - 2 p.m., entrance B, by the Administration Building, is the only entrance by which traffic may enter and leave the campus. All other entrances will be closed. Car decals will be issued to every Charlotte Christian family. These should be placed on the inside windshield, in the lower right-hand corner on the passenger side of your car. Anyone not having this decal may be stopped by security. Campus security is provided by offduty Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officers who are on campus during the day and into the evening.

Swim & Tennis Center (704) 364-8055

DINING HALL

Charlotte Christian partners with Flik Dining Services to provide a healthy lunch for each student with the cost of lunch included in tuition. Flik’s numerous daily offerings include three hot entrees, salad bar, deli bar, and fresh soups. Healthy breakfast options and mid-morning snack options are available for purchase for middle and upper school students using a prepay account. Breakfast is served from 7:15 - 8 a.m., mid-morning break from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 11 a.m. – 1:40 p.m. Healthy afternoon snacks are also available for purchase in the dining hall beginning at 3:30 p.m. Dining hall information is located on the website under the parent portal. FAMILY HANDBOOK

The Charlotte Christian School Family Handbook is located on the school website under the parent portal and includes a complete guide for school policies and procedures. In addition, the Community Directory can be found online and is also published in a book in August of each year.

HEALTH ROOM

A student health form, documenting a student’s health history, allergies, and emergency contact numbers, must be completed yearly by a parent and kept on file in the health room. Teachers are not responsible for handling and administering medications unless specific instructions are provided for off-campus school functions (i.e. field trips). STUDENT LOCKERS

TARDINESS

Lockers are school property are assigned for student usage. It is the responsibility of the assigned student to maintain the locker accordingly. Due to the openness of the campus and frequency of after-hour visitors (i.e. sports, etc.), a personal combination lock may be used on lockers once the school office or athletic office has been given the combination information. Division administration has the right to remove (open with combination or cut off) locks to enter a locker if necessary.

Like absenteeism, tardiness disrupts the learning process for all members of the class. It is important to teach punctuality as an integral part of life. The student must learn to make appropriate adjustments in order to be in school on time. The principal will address excessive tardiness. Middle school students will be considered tardy after 7:45 a.m. Thereafter, they will not be admitted to class without a pass from the office. The pass will state whether the tardiness is excused or unexcused. To participate in after school activities, students must arrive by 10 a.m. unless a director’s note is received. For the complete tardiness policy, please see the family handbook.

WINDY GAP - Sept. 16-18, 2015 During each September the entire middle school participates in the Windy Gap spiritual renewal retreat. Development Tuition dollars do not cover 100 percent of your child’s education. Offering the best comprehensive, college preparatory education we can drives our fundraising efforts to cover additional expenses and needs. We trust in God’s provision through the generosity of many for this additional support. To keep our community informed of these opportunities to enrich our student’s educational and co-curricular activities, the development office organizes various fundraising efforts. Our community is one that practices good stewardship and embraces the spirit of generosity. Stewardship for us is the mindful and responsible care we give to managing tuition dollars and contributions. We desire to honor God by achieving the greatest level of impact for each dollar entrusted to the school. The Bible provides a significant level of wisdom on the benefits of living a generous life. Our desire is to help donors understand the significant difference their contributions make and the joy that comes from living a life of generosity.

OPPORTUNITIES TO GIVE Annual Fund – Support to the Annual Fund touches the lives of every student. Funds raised are used to provide new curriculums and educational resources, educational technology, professional development for employees, campus improvements and resources for fine arts and athletics. We encourage all of our families to support the Annual Fund as we strive for 100% participation. We are grateful to report that we reached our goal of $515,000 for the 2014-15 school year and thank all of those who participated. Capital Giving – The following projects mentioned are major capital initiatives that have taken place on our campus since 2012 and have been made possible by the generosity of current Charlotte Christian parents, alumni parents, grandparents and friends.

• Summer 2015 Capital Projects – Over the summer of 2015, three capital projects will be completed: 1. Replacement of the stadium field. 2. Replacement of the stadium. 3. Renovation of the MS/US Media Center. Both the track and turf had reached the end of their life cycle. The renovation of the MS/US Media Center will create a more modern inviting and collaborative space which will strengthen the learning environment.

• Hendrick Center for Arts and Science – At the start of the 2014-15 school year Hendrick Center for Arts and Science opened. It has more than 20,000 square feet of space, this building houses classrooms for all three of our divisions which include those for visual arts, orchestra and the Maxine Lower School Media Center. It includes offices for our Academic Services and our Lower School as well as serving as the front door for our school.

Parking Lot Renovation – Prior to the start of the Hendrick Center for Arts and Science our parking lot was completely renovated during the summer of 2013. More than 50 parking spaces were added, and the flow of carpool lanes was improved greatly.

Warner Field House – Opening in October of 2012, this facility which is located adjacent to the Guy Gymnasium, provides a multipurpose room for wrestling, cheerleading and various other school activities. It also includes a lockerroom for football, lacrosse and wrestling, a classroom and offices for the athletic department. In conjunction with the new building was the renovation and expansion of the Guy Gymnasium providing increased space for athletic team practices and competition and a quality facility for lower school physical education.

Endowment – Gifts to the Charlotte Christian Endowment help to perpetuate the mission of the school in perpetuity by providing resources for tuition assistance, faculty and sustaining facilities. The development office organizes the following activities: • Annual Fund Campaign • Grandparents’ Day • Annual Homecoming Reception • Ladies’ Luncheon • Knights Fight Hunger Week • Monthly Men’s Gatherings • New Family Tailgate • Sporting Clay Shoot

Our Website This summer www.charlottechristian.com will be receiving a facelift. The updated website design will reflect our school’s contemporary and innovative efforts all the while incorporating parent feedback from the website survey. There will be more media viewing options and more interactive elements that will allow current and prospective families to get a clearer view of our school life through video, photographs and easy access to school happenings. The community and athletic calendars will be prominently displayed along with new and simpler login access to the portal and other online tools. The site will also incorporate a new “responsive” platform, which will allow users to more efficiently use the entire site on mobile devices and tablets. The new website is due to go live later this summer and this transition will not affect your access to the website. If you have any questions or feedback, please contact the school’s webmaster, Miss Tess Regan, at tess.regan@charchrist.com.
