Professional Expertise Strengthens Campaign
Over the past five years, several extraordinary members of our community lent their expertise, material goods, and specialized business acumen to strengthen the Forefront Campaign and take our Cannon Campus to the next level. Our deepest gratitude to:
MIKE BAILEY, chairman and co-founder of Elior North America, the parent company of Aladdin Food Management
Aladdin has gone above and beyond during the Forefront Campaign. In addition to their invaluable input during our kitchen and servery design, the company provided experienced chef training for the Country Day dining hall staff to maximize the culinary offerings. Aladdin partnered with our team to design a specialized process for managing two kitchens simultaneously on two different floors in the Dowd Student Center. Current parent Mike Bailey was critical to this special partnership and to the development of our new state-of-the-art dining facilities.
TOM DOOLEY, BOB DOOLEY ’79, AND DAVID DOOLEY ’82 Balfour Beatty Construction Company
Ranked as the number-one education contractor in the southeast, Balfour Beatty, in a joint venture partnership with Edison Foard, has consistently achieved high marks on work performed at Country Day. Country Day’s relationship with Balfour Beatty began 40 years ago with Tom Dooley, a Trustee and owner of the R.T. Dooley Construction Company. Tom was instrumental in the remodeling of Cannon Campus after the merger with Carmel Academy. Like their father before them, Bob and David Dooley have also been leaders at Country Day and leaders of R.T. Dooley Construction before it became part of Balfour Beatty Construction Company, who Country Day is proud to continue working with. The Dooley family remains integral to this partnership and is key to the collaborative spirit that distinguishes Country Day’s construction as of the highest and best value.
EDISON CASSELS ’87, CEO of Edison Foard, Inc.
In his roles as Trustee and general contractor, Edison has been an essential cornerstone in the success of our Forefront Campaign, always working in the best interest of our school. The nimble and responsive nature of the company, with Edison at the helm, has been particularly impactful in navigating unanticipated challenges and maintaining the three-phase schedule, allowing students to safely utilize new facilities upon returning every August. Edison has lent his expertise and unwavering commitment to ensuring a smooth and intentional construction process.
FRANK DOWD IV ’74, chairman and CEO, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company
Country Day is grateful for generations of partnership with the Dowd family. In his 54-year relationship with the school, Frank has served on the Board of Trustees twice, including chair, and remains actively engaged in strengthening our school for future generations. In addition to the Dowd Foundationʼs very generous early leadership gift to name the new Dowd Student Center, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, the nationʼs top maker of cast iron and plastic pipe and fittings, generously donated specialized materials for our new facilities.
-Greg Walters, Facilities and Plant Operations Manager
PATRICK HOBSON ’89, owner and executive VP of Acoustical Interiors
Acoustical Interiors worked with teachers and administrators to understand the specialized needs of Country Day, ranging from blackout capability for advanced physics to effective lockdown procedures to ensure safety. In addition to lending his expertise to the selection and installation of all shades and sound attenuation in our new innovative learning spaces, Patrick volunteered on both the Forefront Campaign Cabinet and the Country Day Fund. Patrick’s unparalleled passion and dedication to Country Day have strengthened our school in immeasurable ways.
GLENN SHERRILL ’89, chairman and CEO of SteelFab, Inc.
As a Trustee and chair of the Property & Grounds Committee, Glenn’s masterful guidance of the committee has made an incredible impact on the Forefront Campaign. His expertise was particularly valuable when scheduling the projects, enabling Country Day to maximize resources with careful timing. Glenn continues to lend his knowledge, leadership, and passion to propel Country Day to the future while keeping tradition at the core of the Forefront Campaign.
CARL SHOWALTER, president and founder, Showalter Construction
As a member of the Board from 2000–2013, serving on both the Advancement Committee and as chair of the Property & Grounds Committee, Carl has been an exceptional resource in both fundraising and construction. Country Day is grateful for Carl’s input and leadership throughout the Forefront Campaign. His expertise was invaluable even before the campaign started as he helped strategically shape the scope of the project.
