Trailblazers: Meet the Class of 2018

123 seniors submitted 875 applications, an average of 7 per student, with the goal of finding the “right fit.”

Nationally, 58% of seniors choose a school within 100 miles from home. 63% of Country Day's 2018 graduates are attending colleges and universities outside of NC.

These trailblazers, risk takers, and independent thinkers were admitted to schools in the:

Mid-Atlantic-- Dickinson College, Bucknell University, Georgetown University, Howard University, Lafayette College, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), University of Pittsburgh, St. John’s College, Temple University, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia

Midwest and West-- University of California-Santa Barbara, University of Colorado Boulder, Denison University, Hendrix College, Indiana University, Kenyon College, Lewis & Clark College, Miami University, Northwestern University, The Ohio State University, Washington University in St. Louis

South-- Davidson College, Duke University, Emory University, University of Georgia, Rhodes College, Sewanee: The University of the South, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Wake Forest University, Washington and Lee University, Vanderbilt University

Notable accomplishments

• $10.6 million in total scholarship offers based on academic merit, athletic abilities, or artistic talents.

• 16 students earned more than $250,000 in combined scholarship offers.

• A recipient of the Morehead-Cain Scholarship to attend UNC-Chapel Hill; the fifth Country Day recipient in six years and the 30th in school history.

• A Charlotte Observer All-Star Top 10 Scholar.

•12 members of the class will continue their athletic careers with these programs:

• Colby College: lacrosse

• Davidson College: baseball and soccer

• Elon University: lacrosse

• Hendrix College: lacrosse

• Howard University: tennis

• MIT: football

• Rhodes College: cross-country/track

• Sewanee: University of the South: swimming
