Remembering Cackie Morrow Garner ’09
Endowed Scholarship Fund Established in Her Memory
By Spencer Clair ’09, Director of Legacy and Donor Relations
At Country Day, Cackie Morrow Garner ’09 will be remembered as a student and peer whose authenticity, vibrant spirit, and sincerity left a lasting mark on our community and beyond. A graduate of The University of Alabama, Cackie was also a lifelong member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and a realtor in Charlotte and Charleston. With deep sadness, our community learned of Cackie’s passing, due to a cardiac event, in October 2023.
Cackie deeply valued friendships and had a true gift for bringing people together and spreading joy; whether she was cheering on the Crimson Tide at an Alabama football game, enjoying her love for live music all over the country, helping clients find their forever homes, mentoring peers in the real estate industry, or finding peace at the beach.
Classmate and lifelong friend, Katie Young Harris ’09, shared, “Cackie leaves behind a beautiful legacy as a fiercely loyal friend with a big laugh and an even bigger heart. Never one to shy away from the truth, never one to miss a social gathering, and always the first one to say hello, she was, and will always be, a bright light to anyone lucky enough to know her.”
Lifelong family friend Anne Pipkin ’78 reinforces this sentiment, sharing “Cackie’s smile and laugh could light up any room. She was a bright, energetic, and deeply loyal friend. This endowed scholarship will be an ongoing testament to her love of helping others.”
A Legacy of Light
In a profound testament to the enduring power of love and memory, Cackie’s parents Elizabeth Carver Warren ’78 and Hans Warren channeled their grief into a force for good by generously establishing The Cackie Morrow ’09 Memorial Endowed Scholarship in January 2024.
This scholarship is a heartfelt tribute to Cackie, whose spirit will continue to illuminate the paths of others. Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, the scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving Lower School student who, without financial assistance, would otherwise be unable to attend Country Day. The recipient will be a student who mirrors many qualities of Cackie: kindness, brightness, an energetic spirit, a dedication to good citizenship, and a genuine devotion to connecting with others.
This measure thoughtfully honors the deep community connection that was so important to Cackie and remains integral to the Country Day experience. Through this generous gift and scholarship, Cackie’s family has created a lasting impact, ensuring that her light continues to shine brightly in the lives of future generations.
