understanding of underlying concept And principles People - The students will be showing their work to fellow students, family and friends but most importantly potential employers and students who will be seen heavily at GFW. Potential employers will be at GFW to seek the best of the best graduates amongst all the fashion courses at GFW. Prospect students will be there to get a feel for different universities and how they present themselves. Product - Students will be showing their final collections which will contain 6 outfits as well as publications, films, websites, apps and advertising for the communication students. It is important for the the best students with the most creative and exciting work to be picked not only for their benefit but for the university itself. The better the work shown, the better the university will look and better awards will be received. Price - For Graduate Fashion Week, we were given a budget of ÂŁ30,000. In hind sight this is not a huge amount of money to be able to create an exhibition stand, make a publication, film, tickets, goody bags, Goody bag items and posters. At the same time we still have to pay for anything needed at the bournemouth show. This will not cost us nearly as much but we still want to make our students come across in the best way.

11

project progression

Place - The bournemouth show will take place at Pavilion Dance South West by the Bournemouth coast. GFW will be held at The Old Truman Brewery of which we have been given a large space where our exhibition stand will be held. The AUB HE Summer Show will be held at AUB itself. Promotion - The bournemouth show will be sold through posters which will be across bournemouth where it is allowed as well as around AUB. Social media will also help to promote our local catwalk show to those around bournemouth and younger people with an interest in fashion. GFW will do the majority of the promotion as it is run by GFW and as a large organisation, they will want people to come along. We as AUB Fashion will promote through social media to hopefully get people such as fellow students to join us and support the university. Performance The Bournemouth Show - we want to give every level 6 graduating student the opportunity to show their work in a similar way to GFW. As well as being able to see the work across the whole of the course all together. Celebrating AUB Fashion. GFW - This will give those students the chance to possibly get employed by big employers as well as getting their work shown to a very large audience. We need to show our university off to be the best it possibly can through the stand but also the way we present ourselves on the catwalk. We want people to look at the stand and feel the creativity and wonder how creative our student are.

12

Fig 14

The most important part of everything is that we meet our clients needs and wants. This is everything from colour scheme to publication to items to dress the stand. Our client is Anne Chaisty, head of AUB Fashion. A client who knows exactly what she wants. Each show will hold a different audience. Bournemouth show - The public, Family, Friends and peers. GFW - People of industry, prospect students and students from other universities. AUB HE Summer Show - Family and peers. In order to reach the audience and create exactly what we want sponsors/investors are important. We are lucky enough to have a good range of investors. Ours are 42 Juice, Farrow and Ball, Factorylux, Bespoke Barware, Bluebird Tea Company, The Urban Botanist, After Party, The Primal Pantry and Scissors

Evidence of professional engagement Throughout the project, we have collaboratively worked together in a professional manner to construct a visually appealing exhibition stand for GFW as well as creating and running a website showcasing the graduates FMP work. We have to fully engage in this project not only for our own benefit but for all the Level 6 students who are relying on us to create a stand that their work will will the main element. The website holds the same idea and we have to work as a team to create a professional outcome.

Evidence of communication skills When working in a group it is key to communicate with everyone even if you do not get along with them. The website group communicated well through Facebook chat and organised meetings to discuss ideas. We have never worked together before which meant we had to communicate more to professionally create a working website. The stand group however, communicated more professionally through emails and personal group discussions. Anything needed or discussions were sent via Margot/Esther by email. (see apendices A 7 and A 8)

evidence of team working When creating the stand we needed to put ideas together to get the best out of our stand. One thing that needed the largest amount of team work was creating the lettering design/colours and the actual build of the stand itself. The website involved a lot of teamwork as we collectively needed to decide on a layout in order to get every page completed and ready for the launch.

Fig 17

15

Evidence of understanding Roles and Respon sibilities As a group we have to give each other roles and responsibilities for parts of the project. We were asked by Margot to create some designs for the lettering as well as sourcing items to dress the stand. Our main role was to source items while Margot worked more on the design/layout of the stand. As the website group there were 3 roles that needed to be assigned. I took the responsibility of creating the website on Muse and creating every single page needed.

Evidence of technical knowledge and skills As part of this project we were given the task to create a website from scratch using the adobe program Muse. Working with already existing photoshop skills, learning to use Muse was pretty straight forward. This is a skill we thought ourselves by playing around with the program.

Evidence of application of specialist knowledge When creating the website, we all applied our existing knowledge of website layouts on photoshop to collectively create a design that shows our skills. By engaging with existing websites we collected the ideas and applied them to our website. The majority of the knowledge about stand creating came from Margot as she previously worked on this project. We applied the knowledge to our own work to help create a better stand with our own ideas.

Evidence of problem solving AUB lettering needed changing as Margot felt the copper leaf would get lost amongst the stand. The website was going to have side navigation but working with the modern aspect of AUB we changed it to top navigation. The website also had many design issue to begin with but develpoped it to a simple modern website. Overall, in both groups we collectively worked together to create a professional outcome. Communicating well through organised meetings helping us to create better ideas and team working skills of which is key to this project. We all took on individual roles to bring everything together and to show the skills learnt. Working with our existing skills, we engaged well with the situations we were in and overcame parts that didn't work so well.

R e f l e c t i o n, E v a l u a t i o n a n d Conclusi on

This project has taught me a great deal in all aspects. I have learnt how to use Muse, a program which I had only ever heard of and found it surprisingly simple to use. I have communicated better with my peers amongst the class which before was non existent with our class. I have also learnt that there is so much involved with preparing an event and contains a high level of stress at times. There is a huge amount that goes into an event like this which I had never thought about previously. I have developed new skills throughout this project which will help me in the future. A skill I have been eager to gain gain is the program Muse. I have learnt how to use it from scratch and now developed a skill which I can build on as well as adding it to my CV. I will be always developing my communication skills and am now more confident with speaking to my peers who I didn't know well before hand. We as a class did not communicate well and this project has given me the opportunity to do so. A skill which I have struggled with throughout is sourcing items for the stand. Finding the best place to buy something from isn not my forte and was a lot more difficult that I thought. The skills learnt in Muse will be of use in third year if I am to create a website. I know the basic skills and in the future will develop them to be able to create a website for myself. The communication skills I have gained will help me for the future and give me more confidence in speaking to those I do not know. The responsibilities I held were firstly bringing the website group together as no one was taking charge with getting us together. However it did change and others took the same responsibility. Some people in the website group will not do something unless you tell them to. Creating the website was an equal responsibility between us as there were a lot of pages to make and we needed to work together to get it done. I took responsibility of creating ideas for the stand as well as sourcing items for it. A role which I took the whole way through the project. Where next? Hopefully I will gain some experience in industry which I can apply to my CV for future career opportunities. If anything this project has taught me how events is not enjoyable for me and far too stressful. However I have really enjoyed creating a website, even though it has been equally as stressful. Over the last year I have created many website mock ups and being able to create a working website is something that will help me during third year. It has been fun but I think that social media and marketing is more enjoyable for me and see myself doing in the future. This is why I chose to do something different to see if I did like it or not. This project has been a real eye opener to my future career. Throughout this project I think I have achieved the learning outcomes well. Something that I struggled with is the fast changing professional environment as its something that as student I am not used to. Things happen and change quickly and thinking of new ideas in a short space of time can be very difficult. If I was to do this again, I would fully engage with the project right from the beginning and really work closely with the people amongst my group to make it less stressful as it gets closer to the shows. I do not think any of us did which has lead to everything being a slow process and we did not get nearly as much done by then as we could have.

Appendices a 1 - The BA (Hons) Fashion course recognises the uniqueness of the individual and

celebrates the sublime art of making and creative risk taking. Through the journey of the course you will experience challenges and new possibilities whilst seeking unpredictable solutions to concept origination and product development. A guiding principle of the course is for you to initially develop key skillsets which will underpin and inform your personal design philosophy and your chosen area of specialism. Following this, you will be encouraged to make conscientious choices that question existing practices whilst embracing the importance of being confident and creatively diverse.

a 2 - This unit will be pivotal i defining an individual design identity that will be key to future professional engagement. This unit enables and encourages you to make decisions about the direction of your own work through live industrial experience or projects allied with industry. This design initiative has three options and each one is individually negotiated through a learning agreement. Both the external sourcing and global markets units will provide the opportunity for students to make significant preparation for an international placement, ‘Live’ project or case study. Option 2 - Case Study/ Live Project This option relates to you working on a brief that has a specific outcome with an international designer or company. You will be required to collaborate with external professionals to an agreed brief that encompasses the design process, for example, brief, research, design selection, and final presentation. This will enable you to have consistent and regulated critiques to an industry specific outcome.

a3Course Aims - understanding of historical, contextual and theatrical fashion frameworks - engagement with socio-cultural, eco-political and technological issues Course Outcomes - Relate specialist knowledge and skills developed within fashion and contemporary practice and emerging trends - Extend academic learning as an independent, self-reflective and creative practitioner - Demonstrate an awareness of creative business practices

a4AUB Bournemouth Show The first of the three fashion shows is to be held at the Pavilion Dance South West, here in bournemouth by the sea front. This will be on Friday 15th may 2015 at 2.30pm, 4.30pm and 7.30pm. Pavilion Dance South West is a national dance development organisation for the south west of England, supporting regional dance strategy development and representing the south west sector nationally. a5Graduate Fashion Week This fashion show is the most important show as we want to show our university in the best way we can and promote the fashion course here. The stand for this show is also very important as people applying to universities want to be able to look at the stand and like what they see. We want to make the best impression that we can for everyone who attends GFW. GFW is the worlds leading event for fashion graduates. Show casing the work over 1000 graduates from the most influential and inspiring UK and international universities. Graduate Fashion Week represents the future of creative design talent. An unrivalled platform for the promotion of new talent, graduate fashion week bridges the gap between graduate and employment and is responsible for launching the careers of some of the most successful designers of our time. Including Chistopher Baily, who was the winner of the first ever graduate fashion week gold award, Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson and Julien Mcdonald. Graduate Fashion Weeks main sponsor is George along with Barclays, Karen Millen, L’oreal, Mulberry, Nordens, Stuart Peters, Ty Nant Natural Mineral Water, Mannequino, bourjois Paris and Skyn Iceland.

a6AUB HE Summer Show The third and final show will be held at the university itself AUB. This show is different to the 2 previous shows as its an exhibition showcasing third year BA Fashion students work. AUB is the leading arts university for the creative industries. AUB relentlessly innovate, collaborate and connect in ways that turn creative talent into careers. ARTS UNIVERSITY BOURNEMOUTH Learning Agreement Name: Charlotte Crockett Course: BA (Hons) Fashion Level: 5 Unit: Design Enterprise & Innovation Unit Code: FAC556 Credit Points: 40 Study Hours: 400 hours Tutor(s): Esther Yarnold Synopsis Of Study For my project I will be individually producing a written report as well as a blog documenting all my work and processes throughout the live project, along with a CV. This will be an in depth project which will fully rely on the blog and report. It will run past hand in and will carry on until the end of June. I am taking part in the Graduate Fashion Week live project because I am specialising in image and communications for my third year. GFW will give me the chance to work on the exhibition stand and the website, of which I will be helping to research items for the stand along side building it and building the AUB fashion website showcasing the third years work. The exhibition stand will consist of me styling space, digital presentations, sourcing design furniture/ product and accessories, after show reception, stand set up and take down. This will allow me to develop new skills in set design and sourcing which is something that I don't yet have on my CV. This will be presented at Graduate Fashion Week, showcasing 3rd years final work along with AUB as a university. The website will consist of me helping with the creation of content (moving/still image and copy) for AUB’s new fashion microsite. The launch of which will be happening at the shows. This will allow me to further develop my skills in web design and give the opportunity to create an existing website. Choosing these two areas for be involved in gives me the chance to work in an area where my strengths lie which is the Adobe programs (photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign). This project gives me the opportunity to use my skill set and work towards something that will be physically created for a client and this university. Throughout this I want to make sure that I put any ideas I have across to the group, Be proud of what I create and the things I spend my time on, have a good enough input into the project and make it known the parts I have worked on, work hard throughout in order to have a good outcome and gain more group work skills. The proposed vehicle of assessment will be an event exhibition stand and a website which will be created amongst a group of people. This work will be presented at Graduate Fashion Week and online. Being a 2D student, this Graduate Fashion Week live project is ideal as its everything to do with being a 2D student. Having this opportunity to work on something different to previous projects will help to further develop my skills and body of work.

26

Aims A1 To further develop my creative, intellectual and practical applications of specialist study to the appropriate level.
