Different world booklet

I.C.T Environment Children to produce a webpage to show the different worlds (solar system, 3rd world countries and fictional). Children to add a link to their webpage via the school website. When researching about the solar system children need to assess the reliability of the website.

To be a writer 2 will need to:

Igniting and Inspiring- Different Worlds Project question: Do different worlds really exist?

Blooms questions printed out and displayed in enquiry area. List of research websites printed out and displayed. Ipads accessible at all times on the child’s desks to enable ‘anytime’ learning. The children can up level vocabulary using the thesaurus or research the topic further.

Project product:

Create a different world webpage.

Children should listen to feedback and see if their work can be adapted from it to become more effective. Children to discuss ideas with each other using scientific language.

Role play and quiet reading area: Turn the chill out sofa area into a different world/ Hobbit hole.Hang planets from the ceiling and have images from different fictional texts. This area can also be used as a quiet reading space. A range of fiction and non-fiction books to be made available in this area for children to direct their own learning. Learning display- pictures of ignites and learning to be displayed on learning ribbon. Classroom corners to have religious education books so that the children can select relevant books to help support them with their research.

Can you design and create a webpage of different worlds?

Can you design a survey and select two criteria to make a graph? Which graphs would be appropriate for your data?  Can you create a 3d house for lake town?  What is the value of the graph?  Can data be compared from different countries in this world? 

Children to read the first chapter of The Hobbit book and answer comprehension questions. Homework must be personalised as a result of the gap analysis from the Autumn 2 assessments. The children can select areas in the packs from the independent area in the classroom by identifying areas to grow, selecting

What factors would change if one of the planets in the solar system changed? Would timezones be useful in assessing the position of the planets?

What differences exist between different worlds?  Are there any differences/ similarities between planets within our solar system?  How does the movement of the planets cause us to have day, night and different seasons?  How do shadows form?  Why do we have day, night and seasons?  Why do we go through different time zones when travelling?  Can you identify different worlds in fiction?  Can you identify the planets in our solar system?  What is a shadow?  What does dissolving mean?  What does evaporation mean? 

Do you believe different worlds really exist?  What do you think would happen if one planet was removed from our solar system? Would this have any impact?  Is disappearing fictional, scientific or magic?  How are different planets within our solar system different and similar to fictional different worlds?

Blooms questions to guide stage of your project

To be a good speaker and listener:

2 pieces of prove it writing required.

Can you read a graph and offer feedback? Can you assess your design for you lake town house? What improvements can be made? How many minutes are there in a year? (style questions)

Can you compare different seasons or data from different countries on the same graph?  What unit of time will be most appropriate for collecting data for your graph?  What graphs are suitable for showing the amount of sunlight in a day?  How can a lake town house be made up of more than one 3d shape?

appropriate tasks and close their own gaps.

What is an effective way to compare data? What is quantitative and qualitative data?  How many hours are there in day?  How many seconds are there in a minute?  Can you identify the nets of 3d shapes?

 

To be a Scientist: Planets and the solar system. Why do we have day, night and seasons? Why do we go through time zones when travelling. Understand what orbit is. How do shadows form? How are materials changed? How can the hobbit disappear?

To be a Geologist: To look into zones e.g what is classified as a third world country? -Atlas reading. Identify planets, countries/ continents. To be a mathematician: Conversions between seconds, minutes, hours, days, months etc.

What does a quality product/outcome look like?

Create line graphs showing comparisons of hours of day light. Reading

The end product will consist of: -A website that shows a high level of understanding and factual, scientific evidence of the solar system. A link to this should then be placed on the class page on the school website for other people to view. Children should think carefully about their layout and make sure pages are clearly marked and linked so that information can be quickly located. -Two pieces of prove it writing should be added to each child’s sats evidence. Children should use key features, high level vocabulary and an appropriate layout/ structure. Children should try and achieve their gaps from their previous app sheet. -Created a 3d house using a mixture of nets. The house should be in keeping with the current theme of

L6- Measure the circumference/ diameter of a circle. Nets of 3d shapes- create a net for a house using different 3d shapes

graphs.
