The 2022 boys’ varsity soccer season was one to be remembered as not only did the Hawks play one of the toughest schedules in the state, they walked away CISAA conference champions at the end of it all. Starting the year with a record of 5-1-1 against some incredible teams, the Hawks quickly found themselves 5-5-1 after a string of close games with heartbreaking finishes. The rest of the season, however, was a testament to the character, determination, and mindset of the team. The Hawks went on to finish the season 6-1, with some incredible road victories at Cannon, Covenant Day & Charlotte Country Day. I am very proud of this team and all that we accomplished together.

JUNIOR VARSITY SOCCER

What a fantastic season we had this year with this group of young men. Going into this season was a challenge having such a young team consisting of 13 freshman, seven sophomores and only two juniors. Learning new formations and systems of plays, the boys worked hard in practice sessions and embraced all the changes. On the field, the boys displayed such a dynamic style of play with lots of creativity and determination, pushing the boys to a great season with only one loss. We are very proud of this team. What a great group of young men and we enjoyed watching them develop both their skill and enthusiasm for the game.

It’s amazing how great a team can be when no one cares who gets the credit.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER

The 2022 Middle School boys’ soccer season was led by head coach Paul Alt, along with assistant coach Mark Brunton, succeeding several progressive years from head coach Powell Paguibitan. This team continued the technical and tactical improvements from previous seasons, and combined these efforts with player-initiated team goals of resiliency and staying positive. The goals were met many times, as the season was streaked with ebbs and flows. We won the first four games, dropped the next three, and won the last four games, resulting in the #2 spot at the end of regular season. This seeding set a semi-final between Latin and PD on Patten Stadium. PD scored against the run of play halfway through the first half, and Latin continued to bombard the Chargers until the lights came on, but ultimately fell 0-1. The Hawks played their best soccer at the end of the season in front a great Latin crowd. Other highlights included two victories over Country Day, and late winners at Christian and Covenant Day. The team celebrates ten 8th graders and wishes them all the best in Upper School, and we are excited about 15 returning 7th graders for next season! Go Hawks!
