After a long action packed few months the first edition of My Magazine is here. This issue is a big heads up, from showing you what Actors and Models to look out for, to what you should be wearing now and next season. The whole magazine was styled, shot, written, edited and put together by myself. So I know all the ins and outs of what went on throughout the process of creating My Magazine. I got to know amazing new talents such as Tamsin Carter (cover), who is emerging fast in the modeling world (page 8). Then I had the chance to learn more about the multitalented Mitchell Zhangazha. At a young age Mitchell has already achieved so much yet I’m sure there are much bigger things to come for the future (page 16). I want my readers to know how to look and feel fabulous, so both God Bless America (page 26) and I’ll wait for you under the blue bells (page 40) are showing women’s current trends, from affordable shops. So all the girls can be turning heads this season. And for the guys, My Details (page 32) is jammed full of AW 14/15 trends, to get ahead of the game with next seasons wardrobe. With a film to show you how to wear the looks. http://youtu.be/b1amSWKcxTs I hope you enjoy reading the first issue, because I sure had fun creating it. Check out My Magazines Twitter:@mymagazine2014 and Instagram:mymagazinebycharlotte for more fashion updates and next issues previews. See you next season,

ANDREW COLVIN

Living with an older brother who models for Abercrombie, it came as no surprise when ‘M+P Models’ scouted chiseled Andrew Colvin at Reading Festival, aged seventeen. Andrew is from Hertfordshire but now spends most of his time in London, attending castings and promotional shoots. I was lucky enough to grab him for a chat and a quick shoot in his hometown, to really see how life has changed for him since becoming a model. “When walking around in my wellies, covered in mud, being scouted was the last thing I expected.” Over the past two years Andrew has modeled in numerous editorials for independent magazines such as ‘F**king Young’ where Andrew was in a Fashion film and editorial “Coffee and Cigarettes”. A highlight so far for Andrew has been walking the catwalks of London Fashion week in 2013. “Fashion week has an amazingly fast pace, with all people from the fashion industry flapping about just to make that 5 minute catwalk perfect.” He was then whisked off to the Milan Fashion Week, which was an equally inspiring experience. On his return he became the male face of the ‘Fred Perry Autumn Winter 2013’ campaign. He showcased the season’s trends in promotional shots for every UK store. Andrew also appeared on the Fred Perry website homepage during this season, promoting the company’s extensive range. “I don’t tend to tell my friends about my modeling work, but this one was pretty hard to keep on the down low. I kept getting tweets and texts from my friends saying how they’d seen my face blown up in Covent Garden, Brighton and just all over the country.” “Modeling can be hard work, especially in the busy seasons, but I can’t deny that I love being on set. Most people are so nice to work with and there is generally a really good vibe throughout the day.” Andrew told me he has current plans to travel around Asia and Australia for the next four months but will back in time for shooting next season’s campaigns and should have jobs lined up for his return in August. MY Magazine wishes Andrew all the best in the future and hope to see his face on our streets next season.

MODEL ARMY

TAMSIN CARTER Hertfordshire girl Tamsin Carter has been thrown into the life of a full time model, I was lucky enough to meet up with to do a personal shoot, highlighting new trends of pastels that Tamsin loves. We met on Bywater Street, the most colourful street in Chelsea, and took a strole along Kings Road. Lets talk facts, How did you first get into modelling? I got scouted while working at Hollister in Stratford, not very interesting. Since your first job to now how has modelling changed your life? Modelling has changed my life dramatically. You have to grow up, it has made me not fear rejection, because if you do you will literally be a crying wreck every week. Thinking about when I started modelling I would not have expected to be doing it full time now, that’s why I love it. It gives you so much freedom and has made me more independent as a person. What’s the best shoot you’ve ever done, that you’ve enjoyed the most and had the most fun on? I did a shoot in the summer for a scarf designer called Arteecollage with a guy called Henry from my agency. It was such beautiful weather, which is crazy for London, and we just got on so well. They ended up being like “just have fun” and it resulted in a scarf fight. Scarfs being thrown everywhere, but they actually used the pictures as they were so natural. It was a lovely shoot as the location was beautiful and I just clicked with the people that I was with. 8

What about location, where has been your favourite place to work? I did a hair show in Dallas. About 15 models got flown from Heathrow to Texas to redo a show that we did in London in July. It was for TIGI who are absolutely my favourite people to work with, I couldn’t get on better with a group of people. Dallas was amazing! The show space held 6000 people. It gives you the biggest buzz to go out on stage knowing that these people have paid 700 dollars for a ticket to see you. Another bonus of the trip was being with some really close friends and enjoying the perks of being at a 5 star hotel with a pool in 35-degree weather. Sounds amazing, What have you got planned for next season? At the moment hairdressers are picking their models for entry into the British hairdressers awards. But I would really love to book a campaign as that’s how every models career really starts. As this season is fairly slow it’s about really trying to stick out at a casting and make yourself seen which is pretty hard in a room full of models. I’m on option for a Nike campaign at the moment which would be fabulous if I got it. It’s meant to be in all Nike shops plus magazines which is really the best exposure you can ask for. So many exciting things to come, Good Luck! So what is it you love about modelling? I love modelling because it has introduced me to so many amazing people. My best friend I met at a show in June and now we don’t go more than 3 days without seeing each other. Modelling is perceived as being really bitchy but I have never come across any of that, Thankfully! Otherwise I doubt I would love it as much as I do. I also really enjoy it because it’s made me independent and now I don’t rely on my parents for things like money or help, I’ve just grown up a lot I guess which I do love. Talking of independence, are you looking forward to moving to London soon? I spend most of my time in London so to actually live there will make my life so much easier. I absolutely love London and enjoy going out there whether it’s for dinner or a night out, so I’m very excited! I will probably go back home to see my parents every couple of weeks though, which is why I’m so lucky to be from a place so close to London, makes travelling home so much easier. What about in your free time, where’s your favourite place to go? In my free time between castings I normally go to the gym and have lunch at the W hotel in Leicester Square, it’s like a little retreat where models can go to relax. But in the evening I’m pretty easy, I’ve never not had a good night in Bodo Schloss in High street Ken, it’s nice and chilled, I also love the setting as it’s based on a German ski cabin which reminds me of being back in the alps. Would you want to live anywhere else but London? I could never imagine myself moving out of London for any length of time, maybe New York for a year but I just love London. So at least whilst I’m working, I will be staying in London, but only time can tell. When I’m older I can definitely see myself living in a ski town as I already have family who live in the alps and they love it. Now to finish a bit of fun, if you were a super hero, what would your special power be? I would definitely pick to read people minds! I mean for modelling it would be so useful, you could see casting directors opinions on you and it would just save so much time. Would also be useful to see peoples feelings towards me so I didn’t waste my time being nice to someone who isn’t worth it. Thanks for the chat Tamsin, My Magazine wish you the best of luck for next season!

MULTITALENTED YOUTH

MITCHELL ZHANGAZHA Mitchell Zhangazha, 19, has been in the lime light since the age of 7. Starting with a Domestos advert, and proceeding to attain all the best leading children’s roles of the West End. Mitchell has still kept his nicknames such as ‘Simba’ from his role in the Lion King from 2004 to 2006, and ‘MJ’ from staring as the Young Michael Jackson in Thriller Live from 2008 to 2010. Mitchell was a natural throughout the shoot with My Magazine, being very easy to work with. His experience from acting headshots and band shoots with ‘New Bounce’, who took third place in Britain’s Got Talent 2011, helped with his calm attitude towards shooting. After the shoot I got a chance to have a one on one with Mitchell to get to know the real story of this multitalented “triple threat”.

Top ANOTHER INFLUENCE

As a child you clearly weren't shy of the bright lights of the West End, to obtain the roles you did. Your lifestyle must have been different to your school peers, are you grateful for this? Weirdly enough I was shy until about the age of 12 even though I’d been performing in the West End for a number of years. But yes it was different in the sense that they could go to sleep at 9pm whereas I’d be in bed at around midnight, three times a week. This didn’t really bother me and I was grateful because I was getting to perform to thousands of people, which I guess many people dream of. So I’m lucky! The experience of Britain's got talent must have been quite a change from West End performing. How did you find it in comparison? They were quite similar because the performance on BGT and performing on stage are both live, but obviously BGT was to millions of people and all around the world rather than the thousand packed into a theatre. I did enjoy both though and I would actually say the stage is more nerve-wracking. Singing, acting and dancing are all talents of yours, but which do you enjoy the most, and wish to pursue further in your adult life? I would say I enjoy singing the most and I do sing a lot whether it is to people or by myself. However, in adult life, although a singing career would be fun, an acting career is probably more achievable as the music industry is tough. I do still enjoy acting though and would happily do it for the rest of my life. What about in your day-to-day life, where do you like to spend most of your time? Well currently I’m at University, so a lot of time during the day I’m either trying to do some work or chilling and playing Fifa. So I probably spend most of my time just chilling in my room. There are some days where I get a call from my agent and have to go down to London to do an audition. That can be a bit a frantic!

19

Clearly singing is your passion; is there anyone in particular you dream to collaborate with? Collaborating with Justin Timberlake, Usher or Chris Brown would be pretty cool. Chris Brown especially! If he was still alive then Michael Jackson would have been the dream. What about acting, is there a role you would love to play or a film you aspire to be in? Having played little Simba, it would be fun to play older Simba as well and hopefully in the next 10 years I might get the chance to do that. At the moment a TV show I’d love to be in is Game of Thrones as the actors are amazing and the show is so good. At the moment you are doing a History Degree in Southampton, is this a break away from performing or just a back up plan? I always planned to go to University, because if my acting career fails a degree would still help me to get a good job hopefully. But yeah it’s definitely more of a back up degree type of thing. I’m still going for auditions currently so I’m still doing acting while I’m at Uni. What can we expect from you in the future? Hopefully you’ll be seeing me on your TV screens and cinemas in the near future! Realistically though the plan is to go for more auditions throughout summer and hopefully I can land myself some good jobs. My Magazine wish you the best of luck in the future and hope to see you on the big screen very soon!

MY GALLERY Hello, My Name is Paul Smith DESIGN MUSEUM 15 NOVEMBER - 22 JUNE 2014

This year, the Design Museum has allowed the public to take a journey through the life and mind of one of the most successful global exports. ‘Hello, My Name is Paul Smith’ allows the public to get to know the designer himself, with his cheery character spreading throughout the 8 rooms. The chronological story told throughout the exhibition revolves around a center room. The center room resembles a visual mind map of different thoughts and references that Smith has collected over the years, allowing the viewer to have a great insight into his thought process. The re-creations of Smith’s office and studio in Covent Garden, gives a personal touch, showing the workings of his hectic life. Featuring his bike, highlighted by a spotlight in his office, amongst the piles of books and scraps, shows that Paul Smith is still young at heart, taking inspiration from his surroundings while cycling around the streets of London. The bike is then a feature in the final room at the start of the film ‘A day in the life of a catwalk’. This film is not only inspiring to young designers but it shows the lovers of Smith’s work how far he has come. Seeing the story flow through the exhibition of his achievements, from a three-meter square shop in Nottingham to Worldwide catwalk shows and stores, Smith is certainly a designer to be admired. Overall the exhibition is full of life and invention, a must see for keen creatives.
