About AUTR If you have ever thought about making a difference and have a desire to contribute to the teaching profession by working with prospective teachers, the Atlanta Urban Teacher Residency (AUTR) is looking for you! Our mission is to create a pipeline of highly effective secondary teachers for Atlanta Public Schools in the district’s areas of greatest need – math, science, reading, and special education – through an Urban Teacher Residency. Beginning in 2012, AUTR will prepare a cohort of prospective teachers, also known as Residents, to become effective teachers in APS and positively impact the lives of Atlanta’s children. AUTR is seeking master teachers, also known as Resident Advisors, to train and support Residents as they simultaneously complete a yearlong apprenticeship, earn their master’s degree and develop their skills as highly effective classroom teachers. As a Resident Advisor for the first AUTR cohort you will participate in a groundbreaking program focused on recruiting, preparing and retaining secondary mathematics teachers in Atlanta Public Schools. As a Resident Advisor you will have the opportunity to mold the next generation of APS teachers and to strengthen the teaching profession as a whole. Become an AUTR Resident Advisor and share your expertise, knowledge and passion for teaching with someone who will soon be a peer!

Become a Resident Advisor Resident Advisors not only teach their students, but also take on the additional responsibility of preparing and coaching one Resident who shares the classroom with them for an entire school year. The Resident Advisor has several major responsibilities with regard to the Resident’s professional education and preparation within the school environment. Resident Advisors will serve as a coach and mentor and support their Resident in becoming a Master Teacher, Lifelong Learner and Reflective Practitioner.

• Participate in ongoing professional development

During the Residency year, the Resident will: • Work alongside an experienced teacher, Resident Advisor, during a one year classroom apprenticeship

• Receive specific training, resources, and support necessary to facilitate work as a teacher educator for AUTR

• Enroll in a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T) in Secondary Mathematics program at the AUTR partner University

• Work collaboratively with the AUTR Residency Specialist and Residency Curriculum Specialists to provide support for the Resident

During the Residency year, the Resident Advisor will: • Provide an intense and highly-structured year of “on the job” training and support to the Resident

• Fulfill teaching duties and responsibilities as the classroom teacher of record

Simultaneously complete coursework and the apprenticeship to earn a Georgia clear renewable teaching certificate in secondary mathematics

Resident Advisor Commitment • Attend training during the spring semester, prior to the start of the Residency year • Serve as an AUTR Resident Advisor for 2 years

Be the difference … Change a generation … Inspire!
