Art of theMonth: RainingHeartsBirdy The m ont h of M arch w as very busy, get t ing art com m issions done, and redesigning all t he w ebsit es I had, as I got a m alw are at t ack, w hich w iped out all m y sit es. So M arch cam e around, and I needed a bit of " m e" t im e. That led m e t o do w hat I loved t o do, paint .
I, also, love t o use inks and w at er. I love t he int ensit y of t he colors, and t he w ay t he colors flow , and look like w at ercolors blending. This piece w as st art ed by sprit zing t he surface of L'Aquerelle w at ercolor paper w it h w at er. I t ook a dropper of t he t eal color, and dripped it over t he surface of t he paper, w at ching t he ink bleed int o all t he drops of w at er. I sprit zed t he paper again, t o increase t he surface covered by t he ink.
I added t he blue, and red colors, let t ing t hem blend, and creat e t he lovely purple color. I accent ed t he red w it h a paint brush by draw ing in t he heart . Then, I decided it w ould be a beaut iful background for one of m y Birdys. As I paint ed t his lovely green birdy, I w ant ed t o add som e grounding elem ent t o him . I added t he branch w it h leaves. Aft er all w as paint ed, I enhanced t his sw eet feat hered friend w it h green and yellow glit t er. I, also, enhanced t he heart w it h purple glit t er pen. Eifrig Publishing w as first on m y list and t hey loved t he idea! ? book deal t o follow . I've been a self-t aught m usician since I w as 13 years old. I also w rot e a lot of poet ry and found a nice m arriage of t he t w o in being a singer/ songw rit er. Years lat er I st art ed dabbling w it h w rit ing fict ion for t eenagers and children. In 2012 I began st udying m ore about how t o w rit e for children and t eenagers under t he
t ut elage of Deborah Vet t er at t he Inst it ut e for Children's Lit erat ure and graduat ed from t he " Writ ing for Children and Teenagers" course in 2013. I st art ed out in anim al act ivism in 2010, w hen m y husband and I adopt ed our first child, a kit t en nam ed Honeybelle! M y life changed t rem endously aft er bonding w it h t his lit t le, int elligent creat ure. M y m ot her also w as a big influence w it h t he act ivism ; she w as alw ays helping cat s w it h t he local 't rap & neut er' program s. Hi, Charmies, Charm here. Thank you for looking around my magazine. I enjoy all the beautiful flowers and nature around the Hollow. I know you will really be excited for the upcoming books Shelley has planned. They are about whales, and bunnies and meese, misse, moose? Recent Sunday outing to the mall. Butterflies at Neiman Marcus.
Sundays are my favorite day of the week. It is a day I feel it is ok to relax and do whatever I want to do. What do you do on Sundays? Do you see friends, draw, sleep in? I do all of those. I am fortunate to be able to go to the beach or Walt Disney World if I like. I live in "sunny" Orlando, Florida. The beach and Disney are equal distances from my home, about 45 minutes. Working for myself means I never feel it is ok to take a break, since my income is reliant on what I generate, but Sundays, the one day of the week I can give myself permission to go out and have fun. I am, also, lucky that my family lives close by, so I can see

them if I am so inclined. It is funny, during the week we all dream of Sundays, having a break or getting things done, but the day comes, and it seems we never use it the way we envisioned. So do yourselves a favor this Sunday, do something really fun, even if it is getting the garden ready for your Spring veggies and flowers. And drop by again soon, I miss you when you are gone....

The rest is hist ory. I had t o find an illust rat or, t he hardest part in all of t his, and aft er w eeks of failed effort s I w as led t o Shelley! ! ! It w as t he icing on t he
cake. ( Shelley?s) illust rat ions are am azing and really bring t he book t o life! During t he first re-w rit e of t he book, I st art ed looking for an organizat ion t o join w it h. I w ant ed t o help m ore by donat ing port ions of t he proceeds from sales of t he book t o an organizat ion t hat w as
direct ly involved w it h helping t o free Tilikum . I found w w w .freet illynow .org. It w as uncanny how m y st ory w as alm ost t o a 'T' t he st ory of Kat ie Em m ons w ho runs Blue Freedom and Free Tilly. She absolut ely loved t he idea of t he book and backed it 100% . Hence cam e m y
new relat ionship w it h Blue Freedom . Scaryt ales is a m ult i-m edia book t hat incorporat es short ( scary) st ories, illust rat ions, st oryt elling and scary background m usic t o give t he list ener/ reader a broader scope of ent ert ainm ent . I w as inspired by t he great s, Edgar Allan Poe and Vincent Price, and som e of m y ow n life ex periences. The book w as only ever self-published, but w ent on t o becom e a post er child for t he Lupus Foundat ion of Am erica. Sadly, t he year t he book w as t o be released, t he illust rat or, Angel Busque, passed aw ay t o com plicat ions from her lupus. I decided t hat day t hat t his book w ould be used t o raise m oney for t he LFA. Wit h t he blessings of her fam ily and friends, w e had our first Scaryt ales Benefit for Angel, and t he LFA, Oct ober of 2014 and it w as a huge success! I'm ex cit ed for m y fut ure in
