THANK YOU

TO CHASE HEALTH CENTRE This is a note of THANKS to the staff at the Chase Health Centre. On Thursday, November 17, I walked into the Emergency unit at 9:00 AM believing that I had a touch of the Flu and that is was starting to effect my breathing capacity as I also have COPD. I was soon in triage and after providing relevant information and having my vitals taken, the Nurse/ Technician escorted me to a bed in the ER. Then the action really started. The Doctor, Nurses & Technicians carried out the follow actions; check blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and oxygen level in my blood; complete ECG tests; advised the Doctor on staff of my condition; draw & analyzed many vials of blood; set up IV needles and lines into my arm and wrist; took several x-rays of my chest and lungs. They informed me I had pneumonia, complicated by a sepsis blood infection, a very high white blood cell count, dangerously low blood pressure and severe dehydration. Arrangements were being made for me to be transported immediately to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. This entire process, from the time I entered the Chase Health Centre until I was in the ambulance and on the way to Kamloops, was completed in less than 1 hour. That is what I call exceptional and fantastic health care provided right here in Chase by our dedicated Chase Health Centre staff!!!! From the bottom of my heart, I say THANK YOU!!! Further to this, I spent 4 days in the ER ward in Royal Inland Hospital and every doctor and nurse that provided care for me commented on how precise, fast and well executed the care was provided at the Chase Health Centre and complimented the actions of all staff involved saying that no better care could have been provided. In fact, the Kamloops Doctors and Nurses stated that because of the demand for ER services and ER volumes at RIH it is very possible that I would not have received the care as quickly and efficiently as I did at Chase Health Centre. It is great to know that we have such FIRST CLASS health care available by the dedicated staff at the Chase Health Centre. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! John Mosimann

‘Tis the Season for Hamper Society by Kelsey Snelgrove

The Chase Hamper Society, which serves as the local food bank, is in high gear this time of year collecting and organizing donations of non-perishable food items and new toys to distribute to community members in need this Christmas. “Christmas is a tough time of year for a lot of people, and we are here to help,” said Maureen MacDonald, who chairs the organization of volunteers. For those hoping to access the Hamper Society’s services this season, it’s very important to register on one of the last two Registration Dates, which are Monday, November 28 from 9 to 11 am or on Monday, December 12th from 1-3 pm. The process, while very simple has changed over the last year, and the registration with a proof of ID and current address is required. There are festively decorated donation boxes located in stores around town, where people can leave food donations and/ or unwrapped, new toys for children. If you’d rather donate a monetary amount to the food bank, you can at the RBC or Interior Savings Credit Union in Chase. The Toy Shop is a cheerful little room set up in the corner of the Chase Community Hall. It’s run completely by volunteers, but made possible by donations from the community. “If it weren’t for community donations,we’d have nothing to give out,” said MacDonald. Parents and guardians who have registered for the Hamper Society’s

services can come on Saturdays until December 17th from 9-2 to pick out a present for the children in their families. In the Shop, the variety of items which will be gifts for children, ranging from newborn to 12 years old, are all lined up ready to be browsed. “We want families to feel really comfortable in this room. There are no windows, and there is no rush. We have coffee and tea brewing and we want the experience to be a pleasant one for our clients,” said MacDonald. If considering donating toys, MacDonald said the items don’t need to be very expensive, but large boxes have the greatest, most exciting impact for kids being surprised on Christmas morning. MacDonald said the Hamper Society is feeling a lot of support this year, local businesses are creating their own fundraisers and food drives, and they all the volunteer help they need lined up. Events throughout Chase Country Christmas and the CP Holiday Train on December 15th will garner many more pounds of food for the society to re-distribute in hampers as well. To contact the Chase Hamper Society, call 250-682-6155. Pictured: Left. Cecelia Heskett, Maureen MacDonald, Marilyn Kotanko, Brenda Patterson, Suzanne Foster in the Toy Shop.

The Chase Lions recently voted to work with the Village of Chase and fundraise for an off leash dog park. With Chase Country Christmas just around the corner, the club decided that all proceeds from the Lions annual Christmas Pancake Breakfast be put aside for our four legged furry friends. Breakfast will be served Saturday, December 3, at the Chase Community Hall Basement, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Pancakes, sausage, bacon, strawberries, whipped cream coffee and orange juice

for just $8.00. The Lions will also set up their concession booth just outside the community hall at 11:00 and serve hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and a couple other goodies. Proceeds from the concession will also go the dog park. So plan ahead, bring a group of friends and support this worthwhile community project. The dog park location will be determined at a later date. Celiac patrons, please call Beverley Iglesias @ 250371-7136 ahead, so we can offer an alternative to pancakes.

Adult Program Bus Service Back On by Kelsey Snelgrove

Mayor Rick Berrigan provided an update at the November 22nd meeting of Council that the bus that transports clients to and from the adult day program once a week will be back on the road next week. The bus service, which takes folks to get baths, have social time, and other services, was

abruptly stopped in September and the patrons who use the service campaigned for answers and a solution from Interior Health through letters and meetings. “Kudos to the community for letting Interior Health know this issue was important and putting some pressure on them”, said Mayor Berrigan.

Add water to cover, and cook over medium heat until tender. Meanwhile, in a large, heavy saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth. Whisk in cream

and stir constantly until thick and smooth. Stir in vegetables and clam juice. Heat through, but do not boil. Stir in clams just before serving. If they cook too much they get tough. When clams are heated through, stir in vinegar, and season with salt and pepper.

Local Senior Chrochets for Care Homes submitted

“Inspired by my beloved son Derrick, I started a project of crocheted lap blankets for people in wheelchairs. We delivered the blankets to care homes in Salmon Arm, Kamloops, Chase, and the North Shuswap. After his passing, I kept going in his memory and donations of wool kept coming in. The amazing generosity of donations made it all possible. I want to send a special thanks to the TRU (Culinary Arts), Bonnie and friends of Chase Home Support, the Silver Bells, my friends Cheri and Janet, and the staff

at Parkside. My sincere gratitude for everyone who helped.” -Annie Moffat Parkside Community would like to say congratulations to Annie Moffat, who recently completed her goal of sending blankets out to the surrounding communities. Annie made and sent out a total of 200 blankets! We are inspired by such generosity and dedication to her community. Way to go!

AFTER 10 WINS THE WHEELS FELL OFF! by Scott Koch

Way back on October 8th the HEAT won versus the Sicamous Eagles and followed that with 9 victories in a row against some tough competition. Fast forward to the weekend of November 18-19 and the young men from Chase played cameo roles in a star studded drama featuring the Osoyoos COYOTES and the Kelowna CHIEFS. Bad acting was dominant in these low budget productions from Plunder-Blunder Studios. On Friday night the Desert Dogs from Osoyoos came to town to perform to the fans of the Little Shuswap. In the 1st Kolten Moore from Landon Russell and Cam Watson had the attentive audience on the edges of their seats. Then Jackson Glimpel got a powerplay goal for the Coyotes. Back to the performance and Kaden Black popped one in from Zachary Fournier and Spencer Farstad. Twenty seconds later Austin Cleaver scored and the match was tied. Back and forth the warriors in this production went in the 2nd frame with Colton Rhodes finding the back of the net for the YOTES. In the 3rd the HEAT showed signs of discombobulation as Osoyoos plundered with 4 more tallys. Cleaver with his 2nd, Hunter Johnson, Carter Robinson and to add insult to injury Sam Reinbolt shorthanded. As the credits rolled the locals had blundered their way to a 7-2 loss against a very skilled hockey team. Saturday the 19th, the HEAT trundled down the highway to the Little Apple to

perform Act Two of the Plunder-Blunder Production. The script was entirely different in this sequel but the result in Kelowna had the same outcome. In the 1st the CHIEFS got a powerplay goal from Brendan Mongey. This a result of a slewfoot call on Cody Hodges 34 seconds into the game, a double minor and game misconduct. A sign of things to come. Jason Village put the Ogopogo crew up by 2. In the 2nd Brett Witala scored twice and then Sam Maxwell on the powerplay made in 5-0 after 40. In the 3rd Kolten Moore from Grady Musgrave and Zachary Fournier scored between two from Kelowna, Brody Dale on the powerplay and Tyler Love also on the powerplay. A stunning clinker of a contest with the HEAT on the short end of a 7-1 score. In two games, 14 goals against and 3 for, as well as some well earned suspensions as fisticuffs broke out inside the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period. Game misconducts for the next game result for late game shenanigans. Perhaps in defeat there is an education. Next up, a home and away series versus the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS. Friday night the 25th the combatants will appear at the Art Holding Memorial Arena. A day later Chase rides to the Cariboo for the rematch. There will be a very special draw at the Friday night game so we look forward to seeing new and old fans out in abundance.

YBC bowler Jordan Fletcher through a whopping 324 single two Friday’s ago! Way to go Jordan! You’re sure to be an up and comer! Bill Pacholok rolled a 365 in Cash League this past Thursday night, to tie Kelly Collins for the current house high single! Way to go guys! This past weekend, we took three YBC teams down to Vernon to compete in the BC Youth Games and

they did us proud. Though none of the Chase teams ended up coming home with medals, they bowled great! Thank you to our youth bowlers for being such great kids, listening, and always allowing us to coach you each week! “Clutch Jobe” (Jobe Krause) was the top bowler representing Chase at the Youth Games. It was Jobe’s first ever out of town event, and he bowled a whopping 72 pins over his average! Way to go buddie! This is just the start to your tournament career! Until next week, cheers!
