FLU CLINIC INFO submitted by Dr. Anita Redel

With the coming of autumn, many people have been inquiring about where they may receive the influenza vaccine for the upcoming flu season. While the flu vaccine does not protect against infection with COVID-19, it does significantly decrease the risk of contracting many different strains of the influenza virus and decreases the severity of the flu. This is especially important this year. There are a variety of different venues where the flu vaccine will be offered in Chase and the surrounding communities. PharmaChoice in Chase will be offering flu vaccines free of charge starting mid-October to BC residents with an MSP number. The vaccinations will be offered two days per week and require a booked appointment. A drive-through circuit is being created near the pharmacy and vaccinations will be administered to people in their own vehicles. Please call the pharmacy at 250-6798611 for more information or to book an appointment. Flu vaccines are also being offered through Public Health at the Chase Health Centre. Public Health will provide vaccinations for families with children 12 years old and under. The traditional intramuscular injection and the intranasal

spray will be available. Public Health will also provide vaccinations for adults who are immunocompromised. Vaccinations through Public Health will be given at the Chase Health Centre, require a booked appointment and will start November 1st. Please call 250-679-1393 to book an appointment. For residents of Parkside, the Public Health Nurse will be visiting to administer the flu vaccine. If you are a member of the Neskonlith, Adams Lake or Little Shuswap Lake Band, there will be flu vaccinations available at the Band Health/ Wellness Centre. For Little Shuswap Lake Band and Skwlax Wellness Centre, please call 250-679-3702. For Adams Lake, please call 250679-7726 and to reach the Neskonlith Wellness Centre, call 250-679-3295. Due to pandemic restrictions, we have adapted the way the ‘Flu Clinic’ will run this year. We will be holding a drive-through influenza vaccination clinic in the Chase Curling Rink Parking Lot on November 14. This will be open to everyone and be free of charge. We will provide more information in the Sunflower in October, but please, save the date!

RCMP REPORT September 1st – 15th, 2020 submitted by Chase RCMP

Slippery Spill On September 2nd, 2020 at 4:19 pm, the Chase RCMP were dispatched to a potentially hazardous situation on the Trans Canada Highway near Chase. The complainant reported that a several 5 gallon buckets of oil fell off a flat deck and spilled onto the highway, creating a dangerous slippery area. Police attended and conducted traffic control until AIM Road Maintenance arrived and spread sand over the oil. The matter is still under investigation.

The force of the impact drove the first vehicle into the vehicle in front of it, in a chain reaction. The drivers were checked by paramedics but did not appear to be injured. The second driver, a 40 year old female from Salmon Arm, was issued a violation ticket for ‘Follow too Closely’.

Unwanted Behaviour On September 6th, 2020 at 6:10 pm, Chase RCMP were

advised of an unwanted person outside a business on Shuswap Ave in Chase. The complainant phoned from a business to report that a male had urinated at the back door of the business. When the complainant asked him not to do so, the male became belligerent and rude to the complainant. Police attended and located the male, a 58 year old Chase resident. He admitted to urinating around the corner, behind a bush. He was reminded such was not appropriate behaviour in the downtown core and that he should make all possible attempts to use a washroom. Mental Health Apprehension On September 7th, 2020 at 1:41 am, Chase RCMP were requested to attend the Adams Lake Store for a check wellbeing. The complainant reported that as she drove past the store, a half dressed female came running out toward the road, waving her arms. The complainant was driving a work vehicle, so she was unable to stop and help. Police attended and located the female. She could not explain why she came to Adams Lake and had no plan to care for herself. Her behaviour was erratic and unpredictable. She was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital in Kamloops for assessment. Another Rear-ender On September 8th, 2020 at 10:03 am, Chase RCMP attended a twovehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway near Squilax Anglemont Road. Investigation determined that traffic control was being conducted in the area after a deer was struck, causing a hazard in the eastbound lane. A vehicle in the westbound lane slowed quickly upon seeing the flag person and was stuck from behind by another vehicle which was travelling at a high rate of speed. Both drivers were transported to hospital for treatment of relatively minor injuries. The matter is still under investigation.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the potatoes on a baking sheet. Rub them with the canola oil and bake for 1 hour, making sure they're sufficiently cooked through. Slice the butter into pats. Place in a large mixing bowl and add the bacon bits and sour cream. Remove the potatoes from the oven. Lower the heat to 350 degrees F. With a sharp knife, cut each potato in half lengthwise. Scrape out the insides into the mixing bowl, being careful not to tear the shell. Leave a small rim of potato intact for support. Lay the hollowed out potato shells on a baking sheet. Smash the potatoes into the butter, bacon and sour cream. Add the cheese, milk, seasoned salt, green onions and black pepper to taste and mix together well. Fill the potato shells with the filling so they look abundant and heaping. Top each potato with a little more grated cheese and put in the oven until the potato is warmed through, 15 to 20 minutes.
