Chase could win $250,000 Grand Prize

The other 3 finalists are Pearlgate Track and Field Club (Mount Pearl, Newfoundland), Nakkertok Nordique (Cantley, Quebec), Jaffray Melick Ball Fields (Kenora, Ontario). The final four were selected by a judging panel that evaluated each nomination based on the following criteria: the community’s passion and spirit, how the prize money would be used and overall creativity and effort of the entry. A group of volunteers jumped into action after the Final Four were announced - writing press releases, working social media, planning events and creating hype. There will be a community event at the site of the skate park on Pine Street on Sunday, July 24th, the day before the voting opens. Come on down from 2 pm - 8 pm and celebrate this exciting opportunity with music, games, and a free BBQ! On the voting day, plans are in the works to create voting stations for those without computers, or strong internet connectons.

Details to come on the voting day event - please check in the next Sunflower, or if you are on facebook you can like the ChaseSkatePark to stay in the loop! The plan over the next week is to flood social media! Kraft Heinz Project Play designates each nomination with a hashtag unique to them to use on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The hashtags to use are #PlacetoPlay is #khpp_ChaseSkatePark The skate park project has been crawling along for well over a decade, but now is the time - we have the location approved, the plan, the model, and if we work together and vote on July 25th, we will have the money too! Editors Note - Like most people, I wear a few “hats” and two of mine are the Sunflower and the Skate Park. I created the nomination for the Chase Skate Park and am been part of the group working on this project. It has been very exciting but time-consuming, so please forgive any shortfalls with the Sunflower this week!

Obituary

Daina Vija (nee Tane) Honeyman

passed away peacefully on Saturday July 9, 2016 with Stuart her husband of sixty-six years by her side. Daina was born in Cesis Latvia on July 20 1925. She arrived in Canada in November 1947 with her sister Ausma and her cousin Vija. They settled in Montreal where Daina met the love of her life Stuart. They were married on October 22, 1949. They spent many years in South Eastern Ontario where they raised their two daughters Kristine and Laura. Daina was always busy with gardening, cooking, preserving, and weaving. She had many hobbies connected to flowers: cultivating, arranging and creating art with dried flowers. Daina was a great reader and when she wasn't in the garden or kitchen she could be found in the shade on a hot day with book in hand. She loved nature and was an avid camper and hiker. Upon retirement she and Stuart moved to the Shuswap area where they made many friends. Daina will be missed by many: her husband Stuart, daughters Kris, and Laura and son-in-law Sean, granddaughters Frances and Patricia, sister Ausma, cousins Vija and Aina and families, and by her brothers and sisters in-law Mary, Jim and Gloria, John and their families and by her many friends from all over Canada. Her friends at Piccadilly Care Centre will miss her dearly. In memory of Daina a donation to a charity of choice would be appreciated. There will be no formal service at the family’s request. Online condolences may be sent through Daina’s obituary at www.bowersfuneralservice.com

I went to the psychiatrist, and he says “You’re crazy.” I tell him I want a second opinion. He says, “Okay, you’re ugly too!” (Rodney Dangerfield) If you throw a red stone into a blue sea what will it become? Wet.

3 guys, stranded on a desert island, find a magic lantern containing a genie, who grants them each 1 wish. The 1st guy wishes he was off the island and back home. The 2nd guy wishes the same. The 3rd guy says “I’m lonely. I wish my friends were back here.”

A guy is sitting at home when he hears a knock at the door. He opens the door and sees a snail on the porch. He picks up the snail and throws it as far as he can. Three years later, there’s a knock on the door. He opens it and sees the same snail. The snail says “What was that all about?”
