A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami
Unlike any book you will have read, A Wild Sheep Chase is science fiction, magic, romance, mystery and thriller all rolled into one. First published in Japanese and translated to English the poetic language and descriptions in it left me wondering if they were typical of Japanese language, being created by the translator, or the distinct touch of a globally celebrated author.
Upon reflection I think that all three contribute to the style of the book, but what is most certain is that this book is different, stands apart, and leaves a wonderfully distinct imprint on the reader’s memory. Highly recommendable, for a different kind of adventure, A Wild Sheep Chase will take you away.

Churchill’s Corner by Wally Churchill
Big Day Ahead On Monday, August 3rd I will be celebrating my 85th birthday {and I am still looking for a wife}! It has been quite a ride this year. On December 2nd, 2014, I had a knee replacement. I thought it would be a piece of cake; wrong! It was the most painful Christmas I ever had. I was forced to cancel my Country Hootenanny. Well, I welcome everybody to my birthday party on Monday. There is no admission, come and go as you please. I will be setting up my PA at the community hall in Chase on or before 2 pm. My good friend Jerry Turcott will be entertaining at 3 pm. There will be an open mike, I hope to have many entertainers. I will be
playing my CDs, singing along and telling my musical stories. I have been entertaining for 58 years. My wife had MS so I will be taking donations. At 7 I will start my story until 7:40 pm. Hopefully someone will fill 20 minutes then I will start again at 8 pm until 8:35 pm. There will be coffee and I hope someone will bring a cake or goodies. I will be available if anyone wants to dance. If you want to set up a booth there will be room. Ernie Catanko will be there helping set up. Excited to see other COP members there! My Cell # is 250-318-7324. Wallbanger singing off. Wally “Wallbanger” Churchill is a resident of Chase known for his singing.

Funding for Sewage Treatment Plant Press Release
Residents of Chase will benefit from improved wastewater infrastructure thanks to joint funding from the governments of Canada and British Columbia through the Small Communities Fund. Chase will use the funding to increase the capacity and performance of its sewage treatment plant. “The Village of Chase is very grateful for the funding contributions from our Federal and Provincial government partners for this much needed upgrade to our sewer treatment facility. With our ongoing positive working relationship amongst the three levels of government, the residents and visitors of Chase can be assured of safe and efficient wastewater treatment for many years into the future,” said Rick Berrigan Mayor, Village of Chase Enhancements will include a pre-system filter to remove solids, bypass piping around each of the lagoon cells to sustain service during maintenance work, and enhancing the aeration system to help eliminate odours and increase treatment efficiency. The project is among 55 recently approved in British Columbia that will collectively receive more than $128 million in joint federal-provincial funding under the Small Communities
Fund. These projects represent important investments in municipal infrastructure that maintain safe, healthy communities. Once complete, the work will significantly improve key municipal services for residents and help boost regional development. Through the Small Communities Fund, the governments of Canada and British Columbia are working in partnership to provide funding for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs in communities across the province that have fewer than 100,000 residents. These investments support job creation and economic growth, thus sustaining a high quality of life in small communities across British Columbia for years to come. “This is a vital project for Chase residents and businesses, and I’m pleased that together with our partners we can realize this substantial upgrade to the treatment plant. The upgrades will increase the plant’s capacity, performance and efficiency, help create jobs, encourage economic growth and also protect our environment,” said Todd Stone Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure for BC and MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson.

Bowl-A-Thon goes 24 hours straight by Village Lanes
Village Lanes hosted the 2nd Annual 24 Hour Bowl-A-Thon this past weekend, to raise funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy. Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. People from all over the province were invited to try and test their endurance to see if they could do the unthinkable and bowl for twenty-four hours straight; no breaks, no stopping, no giving up. In order for people to participate in the event, they were asked to raise a minimum of $100.00 to be donated to Muscular Dystrophy Canada; a foundation chosen by the proprietors of Village Lanes. Twelve people accepted the challenge this year, and of the twelve people, nine ended up lasting the full 24 hours. “I competed in the event last
year as well, and lasted the full duration last year as well. This year was easier. Much easier. Once you know what to expect, it doesn’t seem as gruelling,” explained Sam Steil, a Vernon bowler who made the trip out to Chase to compete. “I’m surprised I lasted as long as I did. It really wasn’t too bad. The body seems to fail you before your mind does!” said Gwen Sokal, a local bowler from Chase. Between the twelve bowlers who participated, and a donation from Village Lanes, over $2000.00 was raised, the majority of which will be donation to Muscular Dystrophy Canada. “It’s such a great event, and it’s for an even better cause. We weren’t thrilled with the number of entries we had this year. We’re hoping that next year we get more of our
